2016 has proved to be the summer of the male photo leak, no question about it. But in equal measure, the phrase “hacked emails” seems to be popping up as reliably as Justin Bieber’s backside.
This time around it’s the private account of retired four-star general and former Republican secretary of state Colin Powell whose correspondence has been infiltrated, and it doesn’t bode well for Donald Trump.
In emails obtained from DCLeaks.com and reported on by Buzzfeed, Powell harshly criticizes the Republican presidential nominee, referring to him as a “national disgrace” and an “international pariah,” who engaged in a “racist” movement when he spearheaded a campaign to call President Obama’s birthplace into question.
Powell hasn’t exactly been forgiving to the GOP’s deplorable streak in the past, notably saying in 2013 that, “there’s a dark vein of intolerance in some parts of the [Republican Party].” Well, duh.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
But while his take on Trump may strike many Queerty readers as analogous to looking up at the sky and declaring, “hey look, it’s blue up there,” for undecided voters or even some Trump supporters, Powell’s opinions could mean something more.
Powell has gone on the record saying he voted for Obama in the last two presidential elections, while at the same time maintaining, “I’m still a Republican.”
Clearly, nominating Trump was not the direction he’d hoped his party would take after Mitt Romney’s two failed bids for the White House.
And how does Powell see the upcoming election turning out? In another one of the hacked emails, he writes, “Trump “is in the process of destroying himself, no need for Dems to attack him.”
Alistair Wiseman
Naturally, Queerty only gives you part of the story of what Colin Powell wrote in his emails. You know, because they are “Free of an Agenda”…or something.
What Powell said about Hillary is linked below (I put the quotes in this post, but Queerty censored it):

leobaga
@Alistair Wiseman: Queerty is being humiliated once again for being exposed as the lying media. There are so many gay Trump supporters here, Queerty is scratching their heads why is that so they invent more lies. Pathetic.
Btw, Trump is now leading nationally by a whopping 5 points in the latest LA Times poll. Yay! Real change is coming!
DCguy
@leobaga:
Ugh, a new fake screename. If you guys are going to create a sock puppet remember not to have them hold a conversation with your real name, it just makes it even more obvious.
Oh, and I LOVE the fake national polls based on likely voters instead of registered voters that the self hating, anti-lgbt bigots trumpet. Sorry kittens, but when AZ and GA are listed as “swing states” you are done.
But I DO understand why Trump supporters would love “likely” voter polls. THOSE polls severely undercount minorities and people under 30 because they say they aren’t “likely”. to vote. And if there is one thing Trump supporters love it’s pretending minorities don’t exist except to be scary things that make people vote for bigots.
DCguy
@Alistair Wiseman:
Oh Alistair, you’very been asked a lot but can NEVER answer so I’ll do it again. Give us the reasons you are voting for Trump without mentioning Clinton. You never provide any pro-Trump details, merely just go on anti-Clinton rants. Maybe you just hate women. It would fit right in since you consistently post attacks on lgbt’s as well, what’should one more group for you to hate?
JessPH
@leobaga: Clearly, someone doesn’t know how to read survey results. That LA TIMES poll has a 4.5 percent margin of error. In other words they’re practically tied. The more credible poll is the NBC NEWS/Survey Monkey poll where Hillary leads Don the Con by 4 points with a margin of error of only 1 percent.
Mo Bro
Powell has made it clear for years that he’s not a Republican, that he disagrees with them and votes against them, all while making a career out of disparaging them to liberal news sites and whining how they’ve let him down. The GOP didn’t let him down, he simply slid into lockstep liberalism.
The man is about as Republican as Queerty is.
Kieran
Colin Powell. One of the LIARS who gave us the disastrous and illegal Iraq War. Thanks Colin.
everybodywinsyay
@DCguy: But minorities and young people don’t vote so count them in polls all you want but they are not coming out to vote.
wagnerwallace
Why doesn’t Queerty also report what Colin Powell had to say about Hillary Clinton? He didn’t speak well of her either…
Bob LaBlah
@wagnerwallace: Its because we are all going to lose regardless of who wins. So why bother with an article regarding either side. That woman is toast and the entire world now knows it. My worst fear of a Trump presidency IS going to come true.
Mo Bro
@wagnerwallace: Indeed. Specifically, he referred to “Hillary’s mafia” that’s fraudulently attempting to drag him into her email scandal, as well as stating, “Everything she touches she screws up with hubris.” Not exactly the ringing endorsement Democrats had hoped for.

Had to finally comment.
I visit a gay news aggregate site, and alot of links are from queerty, although I don’t know til I click on it.
Getting very sick of your biased reporting.
You assume all gays are hillary supporters. Wrong.
You use the same broadbrush on gays, that bigots and prejudiced aholes use.
You’re no better.
You’re pushing gays further and further from your website.
I wish there was a way to completely block getting forwarded to your website.
Bauhaus
@Bob LaBlah:
Nonsense. Trump is eminently unqualified for the job and hostile to our rights. “That woman” will fight to protect the rights we have and continue to fight for the protections we need to live equal and dignified lives.
Bob LaBlah
@Bauhaus: Her slow reaction to the shooting in Orlando had more to do with her fear of alienating black, homophobic women that a memory lapse. It was two days before she opened her mouth about the shooting and even when she did it amounted to nothing more than a sound bite. Hillary was never an inspiring speaker and in my mind she has some serious health problems she is not releasing. She always appeared tired and worn out in just about every appearance.
Bauhaus
@Bob LaBlah:
You’ve got all the right-wing talking points down pat. As I recall, you don’t believe in gay marriage (Trump doesn’t, either), so when you say we all have something to lose, you really don’t, because you have no skin in the game.
Bob LaBlah
@Bauhaus: The word police will not allow me to answer you. My comment disappears as soon as I hit post comment and I have a two-try limit when that happens. I am sorry.
Alistair Wiseman
DEAR QUEERTY,
PLEASE EXPLAIN YOUR CENSORSHIP POLICY. SINCE YOU ARE SO DEEPLY ENTRENCHED IN SILENCING THE VOICES OF YOUR READERS, DON’T YOU FEEL YOU OWE AN EXPLANATION AS TO WHAT YOUR POLICY IS AND WHY YOU ENGAGE IN IT?
Kieran
Colin Powell shared his unvarnished opinion of the Clintons, in an email he sent to Democratic financier Jeffrey Leeds in 2014.
Powell described Hillary Clinton as having “a long track record, unbridled ambition, greedy, and not transformational.”
He also described Bill Clinton as “still dicking bimbos at home.”
Kangol
Colin Powell is right. Trump is a r@cist, a pathological liar, a narcissistic, and a business fraud. As Newsweek revealed today, his global business ties are looking nightmarish for US foreign policy.
BUT: I am also preparing myself for the possibility that he might win. Something similar happened in 2000 when the “liberal” media ganged up on Al Gore nonstop, and inept Florida election officials, abetted by George W. Bush’s corrupt brother Jeb, foisted him on us and into office. We lived through Bush’s disastrous first–Enron collapse, 9/11, anthrax attacks, US attorney scandal, etc.–and second–massive deficits, Hurricane Katrina aftermath, global economic crisis–terms, so it’s not inconceivable that, short of Trump starting a nuclear war, which is likely given how unstable he is, we could survive a term of his nonsense.
I really think he wants his own TV network, on which his face can appear nonstop. He’ll definitely have enough white supremacist fanboys to become a billionaire–finally!–if he goes that route instead of the presidency!
Heywood Jablowme
@Alistair Wiseman: Oh dear… “The Paranoid Style In American Politics” strikes again!
Bob LaBlah
@Kangol: It seems a bit suspicious, shall we say, that the content of that meeting between him and the Mexican president is still hush-hush. Trump can not back away from that wall pledge and if the Mexican president doesn’t condemn it that could lead to revolution once construction of that wall begins. Already a Mexican cabinet member who supported the meeting has been ousted. The election of this 6th grade level English speaking fool is going to be a biblical disaster.
Freddie
Dear right wing posters: We realize Queerty did not report General Powell’s unfavorable opinion of Secretary Clinton. Please be advised that the scope of this particular article focuses on the filth that exudes Don Don’s mouth first of all. Secondly, Colin Powell offering slander in Mrs. Clinton’s direction is not news since he’s republican and she’s on the other side. But the fact that one of the former leaders of the once respected republican party shows such discontent for said party’s nominee, speaks volumes.
Freddie
@everybodywinsyay:
You really should look at voter turnout in 2008 and 2012. Minority voter turnout will be just as huge or bigger this election. Just because we’re not into going to rallies doesn’t mean we’re not listening. The stakes are even higher this election and minorities know it.
Alistair Wiseman
@Freddie:
Well Freddie, apparently you haven’t been paying attention. Colin Powell, a supposed Republican, voted for Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012.
So obviously, General Powell “speaks volumes” when he criticizes the nominee of the party he has voted for in the last eight years.
NateOcean
Several things Powell said in the hacked emails indicate that he knowingly circumvented the state department email system to avoid record retention and to keep certain exchanges private. And he did this intentionally. Sounds like he should be brought up on charges.
Alistair Wiseman
@Freddie:
Uh-oh. The Los Angeles Times is stunned by the level of diversity at Trump Los Angeles headquarters.

Mo Bro
@Alistair Wiseman: Since when did facts ever matter to the left? (as evidenced by Freddie‘s stunningly naive comment, “Minority voter turnout will be just as huge or bigger this election.”)
Freddie
@Alistair Wiseman: Yes, I’m well aware that he endorsed and voted for President Obama. How does that negate his affiliation? How does that make him different republican than the many republicans who are voting for Hillary this election? That party has gone to sh*t and that’s why many of its moderates are running away and the alt right and tea party has taken over.
Maybe you’re the one who needs to pay more attention to what’s going on.
Freddie
@Alistair Wiseman: Dumb article and Big deal. Trump won’t lose 100% of the minority vote. Just about 90% of it. Let’s put it this way, Romney won about 60% of the white vote and still lost big in the general electorate. Since the last election, the minority population grew. Trump would need to do better than approximately 3-5 points than Romney did in swing states and win almost 70% of the white vote to have a real chance. This is why alienating is not a good thing moving forward.
Freddie
@Mo Bro:
Not sure what facts you’re speaking of in your very vague comment but it is well heralded that minority voter turnout was the difference for Obama. No one denies that the white electorate heavily influence the election. But minorities do act as the swing vote. Whether you like it or not. FACT!!!

He’ll make wiring money home impossible for people without ‘proper’ I.D. The economies of many countries will be held hostage, especially Mexico. It’s so sick. We’ve managed to be friends with our neighbors, relatively. This harms all of us. This man is a beast. He’s a honey badger.
