Homos visiting Dubai’s beaches better be careful who they cruise:
Dubai Police have formed an undercover unit to combat homosexual and indecent activity on the emirate’s public beaches, a recent press report said.
An unnamed official at Dubai Police’s Criminal Investigation Department told UAE daily Al-Emarat al-Youm that police officers in civilian clothing are patrolling local beaches after complaints from the public of indecent behavior, especially at night time.
He encouraged the public to report any activity they find offensive.
What about pink persecution? We find that offensive…

“Pink Persecution”???
Why do so many in our community feel that public sex, a violation of the law and a slap in the face of common dignity and decency, is a liberty that is owed to them?
To call genuine law enforcement “persecution”….jeesh. Queerty has about as much journalistic integrity as these park trolls have self-respect.
CitizenGeek
Totally agree with Abracadver. Public sex is illegal FOR A REASON. Exceptions should not be made for gay people.

I’m with Andrew on this one. I don’t think very highly of public sex; but the UAE is hardly a LGBTQ friendly area. Most likely men who are merely perceived as gay will be the most harrassed by these phobes.
Buffy
While I don’t defend public sex, I do wonder how the UAE is defining “offensive behavior”. Is it specifically having public sex, or could one be prosecuted under this law if a man or woman flirts with someone of the same-sex? Or is simply perceived as gay?
CHURCHILL-Y
Reality check for Queerty these are filthy oil rich savage camels what do you expect? Please let the dromedaries arrest and imprison one another. So long as Western civilized Nations don’t have to put up with them, who gives a rats ass.

If foot tapping gets you arrested in US, then just making eye contact must be enough in UAE.
An Other Greek
Dubious nouveau-riche kingdoms somehow rate among “our best friends”.
Thanks GREED!
Meanwhile human rights are shit upon, and apologists hypocritically speculate and moralize about “public sex” even as violence and discrimination rule…
$$$?

Well Churchill-Y, I’ll tell you why I give a rat’s ass. Because gay men in any country who live under the state’s oppressive militant rule can only find someone in the dark under a bush, especially when you’re illegal for being who you are. And these men deserve human compassion just like the gay men in free countries. Enough with the hatred for our brothers in other lands. End all war now!

i love sex in the bushes with anonymous strangers…it hurts no one as long as I’m discreet..LEAVE ME ALONE.
Brandon
im just wondering how willing the police are to arrest. i am against public sex, but im wondering if these undercover police officers wait to be hit on, or if they will try and frame people they even suspect are gay.
also just a question but what is the punishment for homosexuality/”indecent acts” in the UAE?

This reminds me of the sting in Adrian, Michigan about 10-15 years ago. Apparently some dudes were meeting at Midnight at the playground and going off into the woods. I don’t recall the exact wording of the news story, but I got the distinct impression one would really have to be looking for this sort of thing. So who complained? Who was this hurting? Who is on the beach at night and as already mentioned what constitutes “indecent” behavior?
Canada
I too agree that being gay does not mean you should be allowed to have sex in public places.
What happen to having sex at home or a hotel room.
Having sex in the public only gives the straight world more reason to clamp down on our other rights that we are seeking.
Gays want egual rights, then let’s be equal and stop demanding we have the right to sex in parks, washrooms, truck stops, etc etc.

I have no shame in taking part in public sex. It is a great alternative to the bar, club, sex club scene and offers a segment of men that, often, do not frequent queer community spaces. That said, I understand the reasoning for policy around it.
“D” had good points, in that criminalization leaves few alternatives for these folk. It all comes down to how a policy is applied. By and large, in my community, it is only enforced in the event of a complaint. It is not used as a tool to harass queer folk.
