Although Equality California indicated it would begin a nationwide search for a new executive director to replace Geoff Kors, who announced in December he was stepping down amidst rumors of downsizing and the departure of marriage director Marc Solomon, it appears EQCA is intent on elevating managing director Jim Carroll to the top spot. Or is assigning his name to email blasts and letting him M.C. fundraisers just an “interim” thing? Adds blogger Michael Petrelis: “I have no idea what he does or what his community leadership qualifications are.” A good number of gay Californians would certainly like the answer to that question, given EQCA still holds much of the blame for the bungled Prop 8 battle in 2008. This story isn’t accurate. We have signed a contract with a search firm and will be conducting a nationwide search for our next executive director.

As a further point of clarification, Michael is incorrect about last month’s meeting being an “elite cocktail reception for top donors.” It was open to the public and anyone could attend, although I’m not sure how EQCA publicized it.
Geoff wasn’t there, I was told, because he was sick.
