Fresh off his success with Lee Daniels’ The Butler — otherwise known as the movie that will finally nab Oprah that elusive Oscar — Lee Daniels is planning an “interracial love affair action movie” with a gay couple starring Magic Mike‘s Alex Pettyfer.
Speaking with Out, Daniels described the movie as “Mr. and Mrs. Smith, but the two good-looking guys as the action heroes.” However, in what is the most premature spoiler in recent cinematic history, “We don’t find out they’re gay until the end of the movie.”
Daniels has a bit of a mancrush on Pettyfer, who had a brief appearance in The Butler as an ornery, rapey son-of-a-gun plantation owner. Of course many of you will recognize Pettyfer as the vessel of Channing Tatum‘s copious twerking-for-dollars knowledge in that seminal film about male strippers, Magic Mike. With one half of the good-looking couple cast, Daniels is now on the search for his partner in crime/life.
“Alex Pettyfer is in it, [but] I have to find the right black guy opposite him. He’s so hot, isn’t he? So hot,” Daniels gushed. “And so aware of his hotness in a way that’s so…I love him to death.”
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Well, since you asked, here are a few hot black actors for Daniels to consider so we can get the balls rolling on this movie ASAP:
Shemar Moore
While not filming Criminal Minds, the perennially hot Mr. Moore is busy being hot — though in all fairness, it’s a full-time job — but we’re sure he could queer his schedule.
LL Cool J
We have a feeling that Uncle L and Alex would be doin’ it and doin’ it and doin’ it well.
Idris Elba
Elba. Idris Elba. The rumored future James Bond can cut his superspy teeth while in liplock with Pettyfer.
Anthony Mackie
The talented and versatile actor is already entering into the action arena with a role in the upcoming Avengers movie and — bonus points — he’s no stranger to interracial gay drama:
Dwayne Johnson
Mackie’s Pain and Gain co-star is a mountain of man muscle that we’d love to see young Alex attempt to climb.
Of course, it’ll be interesting to see how gay this action flick will be, which will surely impact the stars willing to sign onto the project. But seriously, if the gay twist is at the end, it sounds like pretty much every buddy cop movie ever made if extended two minutes past the credits.

I say Micheal B Jordan all the way….

“We don’t find out they’re gay until the end of the movie.” So in what way is it a GAY action flick?
Mr. E. Jones
So gay actors aren’t good enough to play gay characters, Mr. Daniels? This is seriously getting to be some real bullsh!t.
Dev.C
Anthony Mackie may be your best bet, It’s career suicide for most black male actors to play a gay character
unless it’s something derogatory and mocking some gay stereotype. Lee Daniels has his work cut out for him, I wonder if Hollywood will swallow this unthinkable idea.
JasonBrownUK
I was thinking Anthony Mackie, before I saw him listed. He’s the only credible actor out of the bunch that wouldn’t give a shit as long as it was a good script.
PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID
I doubt Edris Elba would even consider it. But more generally, a black British actor would be more up for the challenge and less intimidated.

QuintoLover
@Nyruinz: I don’t think he’d be interested. After that whole Andrew Garfield suggestion of casting Michael as Spider-man’s gay lover didn’t go over so well, he doesn’t seem like a willing candidate for a gay character.
Kangol
Why not just make a gay superhero movie starring Idris Elba, Anthony Mackie, Shemar Moore, Michael B. Jordan, The Rock, LL, and a bunch of other hot brothers and call it a day?
Lee Daniels is wack.
MK Ultra
“We don’t find out they’re gay until the end of the movie.”
So there’s going to be little to no gay content?
So it’s going to be another typical Hollywood action movie with a slight shout out to the gays at the end?
A straight superhero story with a little gay at the end?
Pistolo
I wish they’d pick actors who are actually gay for these movies. There are so many gay actors in Hollywood who never get movies because the industry won’t risk offending their sacred international markets. They have to go on TV because the US is *kinda* accepting. We have Chris Colfer, Neil Patrick Harris, Zachary Quinto, Jonathon Groff, Andrew Rannells to name a few and they’re all fantastic but they’re all on TV almost exclusively. Quinto was on Star Trek but in a straight role and he only came out before the second movie.
Sure, there are a few closet cases or alleged closet cases too but they do an impeccable job of covering it up. I even heard Leo Dicaprio is basically a one-man modelling agency of beards…if it’s true (who knows if it is) then you would understand why someone of his caliber might stay in the closet to continue doing what he loves.

Listen people….we are talking Alex Pettyfer….ONLY Shemar Moore can stand up to that casting at least in the looks department. Let’s be realistic too. Anthony Mackie wouldn’t be believable against Pettyfer. Idris Elba and L L Cool J aren’t going to take this role because “brothers don’t do the gay thing in Hollywood.” For Dwayne Johnson, I think this might be too close to home so he’s going to turn it down beside the fact that he is stiff on screen no pun intended. To get the gay crowd out, and that will be essential to profitability, the casting will have to be believable and you know how lookscentric we are. I too am dismayed about the superheroes being revealed as gay at the end of the movie. That kinda sucks. And for goodness sakes please don’t go to the “go to Black gay” Darryl Stephens however Jensen Atwood might make things interesting. Hmmm Alex Pettyfer and Jensen Atwood….yeah I’d go for that.

@stanhope: Uh, The Rock/Dwayne has already played gay in a film + I’ve heard nothing but gay-supportive statements from him in the past.
stanhope
@fredo777: well I stand corrected on that point but I stand by that he isn’t fine enough to play against pettyfer…..Jensen Atwood or Shemar Moore…hell if America were ready you could drop Pettyfer with those two. 🙂
fredo777
@stanhope: Dwayne is plenty fine, but I’d rather see Mehcad Brooks + am surprised nobody mentioned him yet.
LadyL
@MK Ultra: My point exactly. Business as usual.
Niall
@fredo777: Pls link me to these supportive comments? And what film did he play gay?
J with da tea
@Niall: the movie was “Be cool.” As for the support? This kinda fits: http://www.contactmusic.com/news-article/the-rock-urges-gay-stars-to-come-out
