As part of its effort to take over the gay world, Viacom-backed Logo has announced yet another online venture.
In addition to AfterElton, AfterEllen and NewNowNext, the gay cable channel’s acquired DowneLink.com, a networking website dedicated to “multicultural” gay communities. You know what that means: brown people.
With more than 400,000 members, about 72 percent of Downelink.com users are African American, Asian or Latino/a, and the gender breakdown is balanced between men and women.
No one’s more excited by the buy than Downelink’s founders, Danny Nguyen, Michael Abraham and Ronaldo Mabagos, who released a joint statement: “Logo has a proven track record of serving the entire LGBT community, so this was a perfect partnership that will let us serve our users even better.”
And, we imagine, provided a hefty paycheck. Congrats!

Nice idea but I think LOGO (like HERE) needs to just get its own act together, stop diversifying and actually create some quality programs, stop the f*&ing reruns and censor bleeping and actually act like its PROUD to be part of the Gay & Lesbian community vs. some kind of veneer.
I loved the idea of LOGO when I first found it two years ago… but it is still running the same 12 shows time and time again (ok… I exaggerate… the same 20 shows), how do you generate ratings and advertising that pays by using that formula? More importantly, how do you generate new viewers and in some cases, viewer subscriptions when suffering from HBOitis and a Ted Turner infusion of “give them the same sh** and fill a 20 minute spot with 30 minutes of advertising…”
I’ve personally attempted to share these thoughts directly with LOGO but they have a great filter on their eMail system and bots that tell you to kindly go away if you’re over 25 and not part of the MTv demographic they are pandering to… or so that would seem the case.

I agree with u Craig. Are u sure you are wht.? LOL.
When the powers that be realize that the gay community can and could be so much stronger if it would only aknowledge everyone, including people of color! Gay.com is the worse! I have let LOGO go, because I need to see people of color on a regular bases, in order for me to give my hard earn money, the powers that be must knowledge my skin color and other people of color! I really don’t think it’s ever going to change.

I’d rather see reruns than dreck like Rick and steve and that horrible skectch comedy show. Gives The Gays a bad name for having no taste!
