With two weeks to go until his GOP primary, the hits keep coming for controversy-plagued North Carolina Representative Madison Cawthorn.
The latest blow is a leaked video that has gone viral that claims to show Cawthorn naked, in bed, with a male friend. Cawthorn appears to be thrusting his groin at his friend’s face.
Another person films the encounter on their phone. They can be heard laughing and telling Cawthorn, “Stick it in his face.”
The video was leaked by American Muckrakers PAC, a political group that runs the Fire Madison Cawthorn website.

It’s difficult to identify with certainty that it’s Cawthorn in the video. However, the Rep. helpfully took to Twitter to say that yep, that’s him, and to offer an explanation.

“Years ago, in this video, I was being crass with a friend, trying to be funny.
“We were acting foolish, and joking.
“That’s it.
“I’m NOT backing down.

The youngest person elected to Congress in November 2020, Cawthorn has made headlines with his views and controversial speeches, such as telling moms to raise hyper-masculine “monsters”.
Last December, he gave a speech at the Turning Point USA conference urging young conservatives to drop out of college and wed young. Just a week later, he announced that he and his wife Cristina were separating after just eight months of marriage.
In March he was charged with driving with a revoked license. A court appearance on that is due in the coming weeks.
Then he said on a podcast that leading Republican figures had invited him to orgies in Washington DC and he’d seen anti-drugs crusaders taking cocaine.
At the end of April, Politico released photos of Cawthorn wearing women’s lingerie at a party. Cawthorn says it was just a fun gathering aboard a cruise ship, long before he was a Congressman.
Last week, Cawthorn was cited for possession of a loaded handgun at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. It’s the second time he has “accidentally” tried to carry a gun onto a plane.
After that incident, Cawthorn posted a two-and-a-half-minute video to Instagram saying that “the establishment and RINOS [Republican In Name Only]” are out to wreck his chances of being re-elected.
He claimed there will be a “drip campaign” of bad stories about him over the coming weeks.

Yesterday, he released another video, again complaining about the campaign of bad press about him and attempting to address what he claims are “lies”.
“I’ve never seen the swamp launch such a coordinated attack against any individual in politics except for Donald Trump,” he said.

Unsurprisingly, the video of the anti-LGBTQ lawmaker naked in bed with a friend has prompted a lot of reactions online.
