PFLAG National is honoring actor Patrick Stewart as its Straight for Equality in Entertainment at the fifth annual Straight for Equality Awards Gala in Nwe York. NFL players Brendon Ayanbadejo and Chris Kluwe are also being recognized, along with author John Irving and the Whirlpool Corporation.
“I am delighted and honored to receive this award,” said Stewart, whose upcoming wedding will be officiated by his out X-Men co-star, Ian McKellen. “From my earliest years as an actor I have always been proud of the support the creative community gives to all forms of human and civil rights.”
“From breaking through the ‘don’t play gay’ barrier with roles in Jeffrey, Frasier and now his upcoming film Match to his unwavering support for putting an end to violence against women, Sir Patrick Stewart is an ideal honoree,” said PFLAG National Executive Director Jody M. Huckaby. “His roles in both X-Men and Star Trek: The Next Generation—two franchises which have touched on themes such as the damage done by discrimination and the hurt inflicted by exclusion—have sent uncompromising messages to viewers, particularly GLBT youth, who have found themselves feeling hopeless and without allies.”
The Fifth Annual Straight for Equality Awards Gala will be held April 4t at the Marriott Marquis in New York City.

Captain Picard, Professor X, Captain Ahab, Stan’s boss on American Dad, AND the voice in the head of baby Susie on Family Guy, not to mention an EXTRAORDINARY Shakespeare actor. Sir Stewart is not only straight ally of the ages but possibly also the greatest person who ever walked the earth

Re-watching “..The Next Generation” right now and he is beyond fabulous in it. Some of the best acting I’ve ever seen.
