There was a time when men’s hair style ranged from crew cut to side part, and not much else.
So no matter how you feel about man buns, pompadours or “angular fringe” (it’s a thing), just be glad there’s some variety out there.
And while mermen might not be your thing, maybe you’ll enjoy the man braid.
Because nothing says “I’m comfortable with my masculinity” like a French braid or a wreath of golden braided locks.
Either that, or the madness has gone too far.

Atrocious.
Time to get yourselves to a hair salon and get that fixed!

She don’t love herself.
The problem is the braid right there against the scalp. That never looks good on anyone. A braid in the hair can look good, just not a zipper.

I didn’t cut my hair for almost 20 years, and either my ex or I would braid it all the time. I cut my hair off 10 years ago and the thing I miss most are braids.

I wasn’t thrilled at losing my hair as I got older, but seeing this, it’s just as well. I hope this doesn’t get to be a thing.

I’m always a few years ahead of the trends! Dig the man braid!

I normally don’t like long hair on men or women, and I especially don’t like the ‘man bun’, but SOME of these braids actually work for some of these guys. The guy with the yellow Jeep..hell no. The guy with the blue building in front of him..hell no. But the other aren’t that bad. And I can’t believe this is coming out of my ‘mouth’! lol

These are not!

jwtraveler
@Giancarlo85: Gee, what happened to all that liberalism you’re always spewing incessantly?
jwtraveler
It always bothers me when people are obsessively focused on their appearance and spend an excessive amount of time on it. But as far as style goes: it’s your hair; do what you want with it. That’s some of what freedom is all about.

What does your stupid off hand remark have to do with anything?
And far as hair, we all know you don’t give a shit about your appearance.
Finrod
I’ve worn my hair in braided styles since the 70s.
Heavens, what a tedious little conformists’ club these comment threads are. I should think that you’d all be too busy decorating your homes to look like no one lives in them, alphabetizing your designer underwear, or burping your stolen Guatemalan gaybies to worry about other people’s hairstyles.
darkanser
@Rafi Harold Marrero: Amen to that. Interestingly, they did not show ONE black guy with cornrows — which I find amazing. Perhaps, it’s a new thing for WHITE guys….

I’m actually liking the man braids. LoL.
Giancarlo85
@Finrod: Lol what? How is my hairstyle conformist? I just think braided hair looks ugly.
jwtraveler
@Giancarlo85: What evidence and facts did you use to determine that these hairstyles are “atrocious”? Do you even know the meaning of those words? Has it ever occurred to you that your personal feeling about something is not the ONLY reasonable and acceptable one?
PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS
Definatley knot for me…………………….

I’ll have to keep this in mind for the next time I think, “You know who I want to look like today? Heidi or the friggin’ Folgers Coffee lady!”
Actually I kind of like the guy in the first picture, but otherwise….. no, just… NO.
Giancarlo85
@jwtraveler: That was my own opinion, you know-it-all prune. When in political debates, I use facts and evidence. Hair style is purely subjective. Are you really this much of a moron in person?
Giancarlo85
Wow. JW trying to pick a fight in an article about hair styles. What a dried up bitter old man… where did I say my personal feeling about hair styles the only reasonable and acceptable one? Point it out, know-it-all. What a tool.
Kangol
@Giancarlo85: I think it depends on the guy or braided hairstyle, but I love nicely twisted long dreadlocks or cornrows.
I’ll take this braided hair anyday:

It didn’t post, but it was a photo of Kansas City Royals pitcher Johnny Cueto. Beautiful dreadlocks!

I wore my hair long for a decade or so and the only thing that got me through the grow out was a bandana, but when it was long enough to be down my back even a ponytail could not contain the rebel waves (it’s true). It creeped around my neck until it looked like a dazzling golden fur collar (too hot and kinda creepy). The standard braid was horrible because it pulls when you turn your head, two braids are great for Willie Nelson and guys who can part in the center, but I have cow licks that thwart the center part. I’m a side part and rock the most enviable swoop in my forelock, but I was stuck with a massive puffy ponytail (no split ends either, I won that bar bet with the snarky bitch who claimed my frizz was damage, after 30minutes searching my hair like a love sick baboon she conceded). The braid that changed my life and even makes me miss the hair of my 30’s is the Four Strand Braid, or Square Braid. It flexes in four directions and never tugs at the scalp. It can be tight and smooth, or touseled and loose. It can be positioned high, or low. I miss that massive mop and was forty before even starting to gray, but now in my fifties and distinguished as fuck the silver hair is smoother and finer and so sleek I almost don’t recognize it is mine. I have even traded my western yolked corduroy and suede jacket for a cafe racer. Did I mention I’m vain about my hair?
eclecticstarz
The word that springs to my mind is a good old Scottish word and that is boak.. i think you can guess what it means…
Thad
@Rafi Harold Marrero: Yeah, this article doesn’t acknowledge that men of African descent have been looking great with cornrows for years. What REALLY bothers me in this article is braids AND a “man bun”?!!!! A new standard of awfulness is here.

Granted hairstyles are entirely subjective, but I have always thought corn rows looked hideous on women (and pull your hair out if not done carefully). Stylized braids look only slightly better. On men they both look bad to me.
Certainly not going to judge folks who wear them or comment to friends who do it, as all style is pretense and says nothing about the worth of a person (and i have friends that i know will try this). but to me it adds nothing to a person’s native attractiveness and will often detract. If I hadn’t lost my hair I’d try a lot of different hairstyles, but not this.
Lookyloo
I like those. But calling it a ‘man’ braid..? Really? It’s a braid or braiding – that’s a unisex word.
Putting ‘man’ in front of it is like saying NoHomo or something. It’s promoting insecurities (in a tiny way, yes – but still)
Willie Nelson doesn’t have man-braids.. he has braids – and he’s been rocking them for decades.
Same goes with ‘guyliner’ – It’s eyeliner no matter who wears it.
And ‘man bun’ – It’s a hair bun or just plain ole bun… own it.
OzJosh
The comments here sure prove that gay men are nowhere near as open-minded or as adventurous as they are reputed to be… or used to be. Sad, because some of these – not all – look great.

MORE AND MORE AND MORE AND MORE HOT WHITE GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Realitycheck
May be some old bold guy will be able to braid his nose hair in to lovely pony tails?
Until then, Queerty, isn’t enough we get a steady flood of totally boring underwear and bathing suits?
Hey what about a sexy black guy for a change?……….
Giancarlo85
@OzJosh: Open minded, adventurous? Lol please. You have to be kidding me. Just because we don’t like a certain hair style? As I said it is subjective and I always been adventurous with my hair. I would never get braids as it looks hideous in my opinion.
Realityis
@Giancarlo85: Neymar is hot as hell… looks so good in these pictures.
Giancarlo85
@Realityis: Hell yea he is. He’s a bit of a diva though. Still, I’d let him do me lol.

Up next with men’s hairstyles… The Princess Leia.
SonOfKings
In my opinion, the only men who look good in cornrows are muscular, dark, Black men in gleaming white wife beaters. These White guys pictured here all look like they are just trying to do too much. Their hairstyles are just too damn busy. Too much going on here, it’s distracting and ugly. Where men are concerned, less is more. I feel the same way about body ink. Too much is being too extra.
letianmoon
I think it looks good on some guys but definitely not all.I love this hairstyle.
