Yeah, we know most people aren’t the biggest fan of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 2 winner Tyra Sanchez – she was controversial during her time on the show, and her post-show career hasn’t been a smooth ride either. Nevertheless, her new track Vogue is seriously hot, and worth a listen.
The song’s beat is reminiscent of something you might hear from Iggy Azalea or Azealia Banks, with lyrics that call out all of Tyra’s haters in a very (*cough*) gentle (*cough*) manner. We’re feeling it.
“For the past few months I’ve been working to achieve my dreams,” Tyra shared. “Through my music I am able to freely express myself in an artistic way, which is really good for me because – as we all know – I can be very vocal in ways that don’t seem acceptable to the general public. All the negative energy haters send to me I take it, harness it and transform it into an unapologetic rage that I release through lyrics. I hope Vogue can be an awesome inspiration to anyone that receives unwanted hate.”
“Sorry America – I have a potty mouth and I speak whatever I feel,” Tyra apologized. “I recorded and mastered Vogue all by myself. I hope you enjoy it!”
To accompany the track, which can be downloaded on Soundcloud for free, Tyra also released a fierce promo image styled to imitate a Vogue Magazine cover. Not only does Tyra look gorgeous, but the fake articles give you some insight into what the song is about (and who she’s singing it for).
If people are going to call you a b*tch anyways, might as well own it and give them what they want. Props to ya, Tyra.
Listen to the track on Soundcloud.

Could someone enlighten me on why she is controversial and has had a rough time after the show? I don’t live in the drag world and have no idea what they’re talking about.
Tim Winfred
@He BGB: She was controversial on RuPaul’s Drag Race because she had a sharp tongue. Since then, she made TMZ headlines a few times for getting arrested, and she (as she puts it) has a potty mouth (especially on Twitter).
QJ201
and she drops the n-word several times in the track… and she’s not a comedian like Lady Bunny

Aromaeus
Comedian or not non-black people should not be using the n word. Also being compared to igloo australia is not a compliment.
Alistair Wiseman
Heard the n-word and turned it off.
Apparently, Queerty condones the use of that word. They are so “progressive”.

@Tim Winfred:
Have to disagree, she wasn’t controversial for a sharp tongue, she was lacking in personality and many people thought she was handed the win because RuPaul at that time only rewarded “pretty” as he did with Rebecca first season who went way farther than she should have.
As for this article, is mentioning Azalea Banks who has been blasted for multiple anti-gay comments a good idea when trying to promote Tyra’s song?

This must be the clean version. I didn’t hear any “N” words. I’m sure that makes all the difference. I like it. The song sounds like a mid-tempo banger u play while you are getting ready, driving, exercising, etc. I would definitely listen to this while I’m getting ready to go out. I’m glad that she is doing something to turn things around for her image. I wouldn’t say that she was the worse, but her career definitely was lackluster. It’s a shame to have the crown and not use it to its fullest. I hope that Tatiana is able to launch something similar for herself as well. She’s another Season 2 Girl that has the ability to do big things. I really enjoyed her on All Stars 2. I’m hoping that she has something up her sleeve…perhaps her and Tyra can do some collaboration. Why not? It’s just drag. Have fun with it 🙂

@Aromaeus: FYI Tyra IS black. Not Latino. Not mixed with anything. Both her mother and father are black. She’s addressed this many times before.
