As far as the “main stream media” seem to be concerned, “gay” does not seem to be an issue this year. They seem to have accepted that gays are going to get some rights, and maybe even less discrimination. Most people are more concerned with mundane things like having a job and keeping their house, and whoever is having their 15 minutes of fame this week. (Some preacher in Florida, threatening to burn Korans, seems to be having his this week.)
I think this is good. Let them be distracted by other things while the dam is breaking on gay rights. There has been a series of gay-rights wins this summer, with relatively little attention. If the main stream media was all over it, they might drum up some serious opposition. It is good for us that they are distracted right now. The next time they stop to think about gays, several big wins will be fait accompli.

Several legal scholars said the justice departments defense of DADT was tepid at best. Though they had to defend it the weak defense gives the Obama administration an undercover victory. The justice department has done its job by defending the law but they do not have to appeal the ruling. If the vote on DADT drags on and the GOP takes control after mid-terms the Obama administration would have been stuck with having to sway the GOP to kill DADT, which would have been futile, now in the worst case they can just let the court ruling stand.
