Saying she used a “poor choice of words,” Rep. Victoria Foxx is backtracking over yesterday’s assertion that Matthew Shepard was not the victim of a hate crime. But the damage is already done: “A spokesperson for the congresswoman said Foxx’s office has received hate mail over the past 24 hours, including death threats.” Argh. Literally calling for her head is not the way to get things done. Pointing out how misinformed Rep. Foxx is and educating her on the importance of hate crimes legislation … is.
Don't forget to share:

Yes, there’s no need to call for her head at this point. Now her hairstyle is another story…

look, I’m not saying that anybody should be calling for her head. But leave the touchy feely stuff back in the 70’s. None of these people when suddenly informed that they are “Misinformed” go “Oh wow, I DON’T hate gays!”. We campaign against them, we send money to opposing politicians, etc… but caling them up and saying “Hey viki, gays are really very nice people” has about as much usefulness to us as HRC has been over the past 10 years.

She is a loathsome political opportunist engaged in a simian routine designed to entertain her supposed base of equally ignorant and bigoted Republican “values-voters” — who are nothing more than hate-mongering hypocrites who have found gay people to be easy scapegoats. Ah, but the times they are a changin’ — hence the backlash and the backtrack.
Chris
Call her and tell she is unChristian, that’s about the only thing that MIGHT penetrate.
TANK
@Cam:
Exactly. This isn’t about informing and educating them. How naive… This bitch doesn’t care what you have to say about lgbt equality and hate crimes. LOL!
thomwest2634
Look, when she falls, just don’t pick her up, okay?
Bruno
Her name’s Virginia, not Victoria. Well, I don’t condone death threats but honestly, how many times has she called for people not to threaten the lives of people just because they’re gay? I’m guessing close to zero.
Dennis
Uh, sending a death threat to her is a bit extreme…better to try and have her recalled/censured…or an internet parody, this beast is “ready for her close-up”, I’d say.
At the same time, I beleive we reap what we sow…spread hatred and you get hate in return…this is actually a learning opportunity for her, if she’s open to it (not too hopeful on that, however)
bobito
I don’t necessarily need her death, but an immediate end to her political life would be immensely desirable.
If Matthew Shepard’s murder was not a hate crime, then hate crime doesn’t exist – THAT’s the ticket. In Germany it is a criminal offense to publicly deny the Holocaust. Will we need to draft similar laws in America someday, to force people to acknowledge our country’s real history?
Oh, and @Chris: do me a favor, and never make us have to think about “penetrating” Rep. Virginia Foxx ever again.
TANK
Would you lose sleep from guilt if this bag fell in the shower and died from subsequent injuries incurred from said fall?
It’d crush me.

This woman is wrong we all know that but Fox news is going to eat up this story and make her the victim. We are right and have truth and justice on our side we don’t need to be vicious let the crazy fundamentalists and play the hate card. People like her want to believe gay rights activists are evil why would people prove her right by making death threats?
Sam
Talking isn’t “touchy feely stuff.” It’s how mature adults handle things. Threats to “Christians” like her only help reinforce their beliefs; they’re taught that the righteous will be persecuted for their beliefs. The more they are persecuted, the more they believe they are right. Look at what the Christian movement has done to Miss California…She’s become their poster child! Instead of handling the situation like an adult, Perez called her nasty names, which just proved to them how disgusting gays are and that she was right.
kevin (not that one)
Assuming she’s not lying about the death threats of course….
The anti-gay Christian Right seems to be able to manufacture death threats against them whenever they come under any scrutiny.
getreal
@Sam: Look if you want to insult Christian fundamentalists and homophobes that is one thing. But there are gay christians on this site and non-gay christian gay rights activists that don’t deserve to be insulted because of what bigots do.
walt zipprian
Well, she lied about the hate crime against Matthew Shepard.
Why wouldn’t she lie about getting death threats in order to gain sympathy?
It’s what republicans do.
Sam
@getreal: I clearly said “‘Christians’ like her…” If you’re not a Christian LIKE HER, then you shouldn’t have been insulted.
Mark in Colorado
@getreal: Funny, I didn’t get that Sam was insulting gay christians or non-gay christian gay rights advocates.
What I did get was Sam talking like a typical apologist. He’s more worried about getting everyone’s approval. Please, get some balls Sam!
I know you’re a male feminist but not everything has to be nor is necessarily better off being dealt with using a “touchy feely” approach. I’m sure you know what happens when you try to please everyone.
Chuck
Anyone as ugly as that cow doesn’t even know the meaning of sex. You mean we are expected to believe that someone actually had a yen at one point for this old creature?
How does anyone as ugly as her get the nerve to go out in a world of humans, let alone spew her uneducated stupidity on the floor of the house.
Sam
@Mark in Colorado: I’m not out to get anyone’s approval. I just don’t think you have to handle a situation like a hysterical, immature twit. And thanks for being concerned about the size of my balls…but I’m told they’re perfect.
Geoff
I can sure understand the emotion stirred up by people like this woman. The only thing that makes me feel better is they and their vitriol all seem to come from a certain generation whose time is short.
BTW…..did I miss something about Japhy? What happened to him? Is he still with Queerty?
Jake
We should all hope that more people like her stand up and speak louder. The senseless murder of Matthew Shepard is widely recognized by both straights and gays alike as being the horrendous inevitability of intolerance and homophobia. The more that 117 year old hideous woman babbles on about Matt being a homosexual and coincidentally robbed and killed, the better our side looks.
If it were up to me, I would give her an hour on every network (only I would never want to put Matthew’s family through that)
Jake
Also, as far as her getting death threats and whatnot… I would NEVER advocate threats to a public official, but in her 17 decades on this planet, she should have probably learned not to stir the hornets nest. Talk about asking for it…
Bertie
her district is Mayberry USA
I bet even Sheriff Andy Taylor would call her a cunt.
stevenelliot
fuck that old bag. I wouldnt waste a bullet on her even if I bought the rounds from Wal Mart! Its Karl Rove, who BTW contrived this entire republican/christian right affront against us, that needs that bullet.
Someone should take him out with a pink handgun owned by a drag queen.
Why shot the messenger, when we can get the “architect”
Cam
@Sam: you said “No. 12 · Sam

Sam, you suffer from the same problem that the political parties suffer. “Oh golly gee wilikers, what if we push for this legislation and one person out there in the entire nation doesn’t like it??? Better to do nothing.
Look, talking isn’t the ONLY way adults handle things. they also handle them by donating money to her opponent, working against her reelection, writing letters to the local news etc… And as for Miss Ca. ….so what if she has become their poster child. The latest polls out say that approval for gay marriage has gone up acorss the board. so for all we know, the Perez/Miss California thing helped. Frankly, at least Perez freaking out about it made it look like it was a big deal to us. for too long we have been so afraid of upsetting anybody that we have appeared as though our own rights didn’t matter to us.
Dabq
While I don’t condone the death threats as they are counter productive with the bigots of the right, but since she so callously dismissed Matthew Shepard’s brutal slaying, and, since she will be praying in the name of Jesus and his blood to cure those sick, depraved homosexuals or let them die since its so hard for her not to hate them and not their alleged sin, I can really say I don’t care what anyone says about her and her hate filled, bad hair and outfit wearing self.
These GOP and so called church goers bigots are going to learn in this day and age, hate may sell in her district, but, not around the globe Ginny love bug.
Dabq
And one other thing that Ginger Trots, sorry Virginia Foxx, has learned, not a good feeling when you are on the receiving end of hate crimes, is it now???
getreal
@getreal: O@Sam: Oh I see that sorry. There has been a lot of hate speech on here in the past week maybe it is making me paranoid lol.
Sam
@Cam: What are you talking about?? I didn’t say it’s better to do nothing, just in case one person doesn’t like it. Talk about exaggerating! I never said anything even CLOSE to that and it certainly doesn’t represent my opinion OR my actions. I have no idea how my original statement got twisted into this, but it’s hysterical! The drama!
TANK
“I didn’t say what I said…blah blah blah blah wah wah wah wah” . Titty babies.
And hate speech? That’s a two way street.
BobP
Funny how the response isn’t “yes, she said a stupid hateful lie and we’re mortified and sorry”, but a “poor choice of words, and those horrible gay people have sent her death threats”. What a bunch of bullshit. It wasn’t a poor choice of words, and I bet they’re lying about the death threats.
JoeINSantaFe
@Cam: Yes, I agree. It’s time to stand up and speak loudly against these people- they are liars and bigots. No more Mr. Nice Guy! Truth, freedom & equal rights!
Bertie
Bigots always play the victim role when their hate is examined.
ie: The Mormon Church’s boo hoo routine last Fall.
stevenelliot
@BRB: When right wing groups stop profiteering and lining their pockets on the backs of gay misery, you may then have a leg to stand on with your idiotic logic.
MTiffany
That may be true, but it does have the virtue of possessing a certain poetic symmetry — a fomenter of hate dead by hate aroused by her denial that hate killed another.
anderson cooper is my future husband
@BRB: So I guess they banned Heterodefenseleague so you are back with a new name. FLAG HIS POSTS GET THIS HOMOPHOBE BANNED

@BRB:
HA!
your society is sick of nasty gays perhaps.
Pick up a newspaper, douchebag.
I think pre-teens hanging themselves over societal pressures to not be perceived as gay in the USA is victim enough.
I care about atheist society’s opinion much more.

death threats make gays sound crazy..don’t let hypocrites “demonize” gays…
alan brickman
just vote her out…

BRB is a country western gay bar here in Houston.
Brazos River Bottom. It’s on Brazos Street. It’s awesome.
Weird how you named yourself after a gay bar. Huh?
rogue dandelion
i don’t want her to die, i just want her to stop being a bigot on the floor of congress. death threats are completely unnecessary and counter productive- we need donations to her next opponent.
Mark in Colorado
Looks like her death threat claims may be a hoax. What a disgusting dried up old ignorant hag.
gayvirgo
I am sure that those who sent death threats just used “a poor choice of words”.
DM73
Isn’t she embalmed already? Geez, I guess it’s time to re-sharpen ye olde stake boys…..

The holocaust didn’t happen, either.
