It’s not a march without some catchy slogans to be repeated, sung, and shouted through megaphones — and attendees of yesterday’s National Equality March didn’t disappoint. There were plenty of rhyming catchphrases, some more clever than others.
Here are the few we could remember, but if you were there, let us know which ones you heard!
• Hey, Obama, let mama marry mama
• What do we want? Equality. When do we want it? Yesterday
• Hey hey, ho ho, homophobia has got to go
• 2, 4, 6, 8, give us equality in every state

“We’re here. We’re queer. We’re fabulous. Don’t fuck with us.”
Carl Sagan
We’re here
We’re queer
All 500,000 of us
Er, all 250,000 of us
Um, how about 100,000 of us
50,000 of us?
Okay, okay, 15,000 of us!

Here’s an artsy mini-documentary I did about the march …

I liked the signs that said “Everyone has a gay uncle” and “Hetero is not Betero.”
The chants, “Out of the Closet, Into the Streets,” and “Discrimination’s gotta go, Back of the Bus, Hell No!” were some of those of many I enjoyed.
Cam
As people passed the White House the chant was “Obama, Obama, Let mama marry Mama!”

I appreciated hearing “hey hey, ho ho, transphobia has got to go” as well.

1, 2, 3, 4, OPEN UP YOUR CLOSET DOOR!
5, 6, 7, 8, DON’T BE SURE YOUR KIDS ARE STRAIGHT!
^ My personal favorite that I heard and chanted with, haha. Pretty appropriate for Coming Out Day!

We’re here, we’re queer – hear us shout,
Our equality is near – but, we can count.
All 20,000 of us.
