PHOTOS: AIDS LifeCycle Paints The California Coastline Red

The 545-mile AIDS LifeCycle ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles is closing in on the finish line: Day 5 is traditionally Dress in Red Day (aka “Red Dress Day”).  Legend has it the tradition began because, from the winding hills of the California coastline from Santa Maria to Lompoc, a swath of riders in red would look like a giant AIDS ribbon. We’re not sure if that’s true or not, but we tip our hat to the generous and fit participant’s in this years’ event. While it’s a great charity event and raises a lot of money…

Every time I see pictures of it, it just looks like attack of the weirdos. Like I’m looking at some fucked-up summer camp for adults. Or some strange drag queen cult.

It seems like every day there’s another “theme” day.

I realize people are having fun and raising money and awareness and all that. And good for them, I’m glad to hear it. But why is it that every time there’s something involving gay anything, there’s got to be a bit where everyone puts on a dress and heels?
