STDs Breaking Records!

bugs.jpg
Our genitals just shrieked, shuddered and shriveled:

More than 1 million cases of chlamydia were reported in the United States last year – the most ever reported for a sexually transmitted disease, federal health officials said Tuesday.

“A new U.S. record,” said Dr. John M. Douglas Jr. of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

YAY!! Oh, wait… That’s not good, nor is the news that Gonorrhea and Syphilis are burrowing in – the big S saw a rise for the first time in fifteen years: 9,800 of the most contagious infections were reported in 2006, about 1,100 more than 2005.

Sex just got a whole lot more stressful.

I have always believed that many proscriptions on our appetites (food or sex) were given theological definitions after certain health connexions were made.

I think that both circumcision and kasruth emanated from diseases that were cured by the “Holiness Code prescriptions.”

I do not want first century or earlier cosmology to colour 21st century cosmology. Our enlightened knowledge of medical and food science should put many of these old beliefs into perspective.

Of course, I believe in monogamous and committed marriages for all persons who engage in human conjugal relationships. I also believe in the prevention of venereal diseases that can kill many aspects of your lives, and eventually produce a “premature deathly outcome.”
