Model-cum-mogul Tyra Banks recently put out a call for people looking to cure themselves of their gay ways. Applicants will then be paraded on her talk show and, hopefully, ridiculed. [Queers United]

Madonna's divorce definitely grabbed headlines, but here's one that we find far more fascinating: ex-gay activists Greg Quinlan and Cheryl Quinlan called it quits.

The couple became poster children for the "cured queer" movement and even used their marriage as a political chip, like when Greg Quinlan testified to Ohio lawmakers that he and his wife were proof gays don't need marriage rights - we can just go straight! Said Mr. Quinlan:

Tens of thousands of homosexuals have changed and more desire to change. Homosexuality is a behavior–not a genetic trait. Based on verifiable evidence, there is no justification for same sex marriage, civil unions, or domestic partnership legislation. None.

My wife and I are living proof–along with thousands of others–that persons with same-sex attraction can, and have, changed–and thereby can marry and be happy again.

We have chosen to follow the Manufactures’ specific guidelines for our lives. That means committed to one another as man and woman.

Poor Greg spoke too soon, huh?

The ex-gay movement's trying to make moves into public libraries.

Right-wing non-profit PFOX, Parents and Friends of ExGays and Gays, recently urged members to sent local libraries some suggested reading, like Arthur Goldberg's Light in the Closet: Torah, Homosexuality, and the Power to Change, and A Parent’s Guide to Preventing Homosexuality, by Joseph and Linda Nicolosi. Both titles, we're sure, are page-turners.

PFOX supporters are also further encouraged to tell libraries they have no reason to "censor" such materials. Except, we hope, a conscience.

Not one to be left out of an anti-gay throw-down, Americans For Truth's Peter LaBarbera passed word along to his own brethren, telling them to join the fight and help form the world's most self-righteous book club!

We just stumbled across this video, entitled "Gay Education."

It's fairly informative and covers a lot of ground, like possible biological explanations for the world's homosexuals and the negative impact of the ex-gay movement.

Today's Friday. Indulge yourself…

The ex-gay movement has found its way to Australia. And it's going after the lesbians. Run, ladies, run! [MCV]

Canadian viewers got an earful when CTV ran an ad advocating gay change.

The 30-second spot featured a man confessing his own queer conversion:

You hear a lot about gay rights, gay marriage and the gay lifestyle being taught in our public schools for children, but what many people don’t realize, and seldom hear, is that many homosexuals don’t want to be homosexual. What many who are struggling with homosexuality don’t realize, and seldom hear, is that they can change. I should know - for 13 years, I used to be one.

It didn't take long for irate activists to take to Facebook and launch a campaign against the commercial. And, as you can tell from the headline, it worked.

CTV spokesman Scott Henderson also insists he and his colleagues weren't feeling the commercial either: It was something that was taken very seriously at the highest levels of CTV. It's completely against all of our own codes."

Mary Jean Smith and her husband are sick and tired of wing nuts trying to cure gay people. "Regardless of what the "experts" say, there are no "former" homosexuals… They cannot live a lie. Our lesbian daughter cannot change her sexual orientation any more than our four heterosexual daughters can change theirs."

The ex-gay movement remains one of the most insidious threats to gay life today.

Self-proclaimed "ex-gay" has Bible, will thump

donniemcclurkin2.jpgWhether or not you believe controversial gospel star Donnie McClurkin is sincere in his assertion that he was "delivered" from a his homosexuality by the power of God's graces, his performance last night in Columbia, South Carolina had "drama queen" written all over it.

McClurkin has been a hot potato for Prez hopeful Barack Obama in recent weeks, splitting his Democratic supporters along lines that usually differentiate the Democratic Party from the GOP. And according to The New York Times, McClurkin's contribution to Sunday's gospel rally and concert in support of Obama didn't do much to mend fences. At the close of the three-hour show, McClurkin took center stage to give the crowd a finale that included some of his greatest pulpit hits to date, including:

Don’t call me a bigot or anti-gay when I have suffered the same feelings!"

God delivered me from homosexuality!"

The greatest change a person can have is not in politics!"

and the sure-to-be-hit…

Believe the Bible over the blogs!"

An enthusiastic Wayne Besen and his Truth Wins Out crew are taking a new approach to everyone's favorite day of gay explosion, National Coming Out Day.

Wayne Besen Not Having Pat Robertson Report

patrobertson1-1.jpg
The Ex-Gays are at it again. We just ran into Truth Wins Out's Wayne Besen - welcome back to NYC, Wayne! - and he told us that Pat Robertson and his cronies will release a new "study" on the benefits of religion-based conversion.

Though it's too early to know just how flawed the study will be, Besen's skeptical:

It comes as no shock that anti-gay ‘researchers’ at Wheaton College and Pat Robertson University would release a study that claims you can pray away the gay. I suppose their next study will provide support for Pat Robertson’s theory that homosexuality causes meteors and hurricanes.

This study may be a deceptive sham with the goal of making it appear as if science backs fundamentalist beliefs on homosexuality.

Any ‘ex-gay’ study that does not include physical components that measure truth are essentially meaningless.

"Essentially meaningless"? Ha!

Uses Children's Book For Homophobic Propaganda

cohenbook6.jpg
Here's one book our imaginary children won't be reading: Alfie's Home by ex-gay activist Richard A. Cohen.

Cohen's main claim to fame comes from his queer approach to "homo trauma": clutching a pillow and pleading for his father's love. Judging from the looks of this book, he's been chatting up Without Prejudice's prejudiced panelist who thinks all gays were raped.

Check out more highlights after the jump…

• We came across this video from The Sound of Music and got a bit nostalgic. Now we're passing it on to you, because we know you love it. If you don't, we suggest you start…

Ex-gays plan to use sham science to back-up conversion claims.

Janeane Garofolo joins 24. Guess she doesn't mind taking money from Fox, Rupert and the other conservatives she blasts.

Another constitutional victory for some ex-gay lovers. Arlington, Virginia's public school board will allow Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays, preciously abbreviated as PFOX, to distribute their pro conversion pamplets on school ground.

The board originally refused PFOX's request, but buckled when the non-profit threatened legal action. Now educators must allow PFOX to join more socially responsible groups in passing out literature.
