OH SNAP — Washington D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty shows off his abs, alongside former Jamaican tennis pro Rayne Russell, which should be a nice moment to look back on before feeling the heat from Bishop Harry Jackson and the National Organization for Marriage’s new PAC.

he is a terrible mayor.

I guess we have to figure out the six reasons, or did something go over my head (it wouldn’t be the first time)?
OH! The abs! lol I had a blonde moment.
Hot pic. I don’t even live in DC, but I wanna campaign for him. Can someone who actually does live in DC counter what Kyle412 said? I mean, how do you drop a statement like that and not give some reasoning behind it?
From an outsider perspective – I know he’s way easy on the eyes, he’s pro-equality, and he could have ME in a heartbeat. That’s all I need to know. Go Fenty!

I wanna be the meat in that sandwich.

I agree with Kyle. I live in DC and like most DC mayors he is shady. He has used his connections to get his kid into schools that technically they weren’t allowed to be in due to their district and the way he has handled the city infrastructure is abysmal.
tjr101
I’m impressed with the mayor, the guy next to him is slightly hotter!
Jon
@Tylertime, if him getting his kids into a better school is the worst of his offenses then I would consider DC lucky. With a mayor like Barry tarnishing DC’s rep for years, Fenty is a mayor who actually makes things happen besides evading his taxes or doing crack. Hell, my grandma has probably done more scandalous stuff. I consider him one of the better mayors DC has had. He’s one of the most gay-friendly mayors in the nation and his track record proves it. Crime has gone down dramaticly since he’s been elected. Yes, crime has gone down in many other cities across the board but DC hasn’t been this safe in decades. People are actually coming back into the city and once again DC is becoming a world class city.

He’s the hottest mayor in the country. I’ve seen pics of him from other athletic events. He could easily model. What a hottie! His wife is one very lucky lady.

Fenty is not a good Mayor. Councilman Gray, who is as gay friendly as Fenty, will give him a run for the money. Fenty has maintained close ties with some of his fraternity brothers, and other pals, that have given his administration a bad name. Just today, one of the local papers did a story on a buddy of Fenty whose non-profit organization helped donate a firetruck and amublance to the Dominican Republic (while it sounds like a nice thing to do, the whole deal was shady and people got in trouble). This non-profit (helps troubled teens among other things) has now experienced major downsizing and is in fiscal trouble. Fenty has also lost some support of the black community. In most cities that would not matter, but in heavily black DC it makes a difference. And, let’s not forget Michelle Rhee the DC Schools Chancellor who has pissed off a lot of residents. Yeah, they just announced 20% pay increases over the next 5 years for teachers but that may be too little too late.

I like Fenty. Black residents of DC seem to like him less than non-black residents but I don’t understand why. It seems to be related to closing schools and firing some teachers, but he is trying drastic measures to improve schools here and drastic measures are needed. I think Fenty is sincere and wants what’s best for the city. I heard he used to run with a gay running club in DC… their token hetero runner. This speaks volumes to me. He doesn’t seem to have a homophobic bone in his body.

____________
Councilman Gray? You mean the guy who is compagning on the statement that “I’m a homie”??? DC has had enough mayors like Barry pandering like that. Currently under Fenty we Dc has something like the lowest incidence of violent crime since the 1960’s. The city is safe, the schools under Chancellor Rhee (His appointment) have started actually improving their scores inspite of the city old guard screaming that they were getting rid of a bunch of unqualified Barry appointments, previously our schools were ranked either 49 or 50 depending on whether or not Mississippi was having a good year. Etc… As somebody who has lived here for a long time, the city is running better than ever.

@ No. 10 Cam: Hmmm, you really should have thought that one over before posting, as Gray’s politics on gays has nothing to do with what you are talking about (a Marion Barry like Mayor??? I chuckle at the crazy thought). I still assert that Gray will give Fenty a good run. And, for the record, DC Schools still suck. Try as she might, Michelle Rhee hasn’t changed that at all. She is, however, building an impressive resume.

If a mayor has time to have a body like that I don’t think he is working very hard as the mayor.

_____________
I said nothing about his gay rights background. I commented that he is commenting that “He is a homie” and pulling out all the MArion Barry Stops.
As for the schools not improving, where are you getting your facts, since the schools scores have significantly jumped. Here is an article in the Detroit Free Press about how Detroit needs to do what DC is doing and it sites Cancellor Rhee and the DC’s schools improvement.

Lastly, just a bit about Rhee, who you say is getting a great resume about this. She at first turned down the job several times because she had founded her own national organization. The City begged her to take on this job, and here is some of what she did previously…
“”Rhee taught in Baltimore, Maryland as a recruit of Teach For America for three years. Over a two-year period she moved students scoring on average at the 13th percentile on national standardized tests to the 90th percentile or higher. In 1997 she founded the New Teacher Project, a non-profit organization which works with needy school districts to recruit and train new teachers. In ten years, the New Teacher Project has expanded to forty programs in twenty states and recruited more than 10,000 teachers.””
Yeah, she founded a non-profit that has forty school districts as clients….she didn’t need the pay cut the DC job is.
Jon
The constant complainers of wards 8 & 9 are responsible for Barry’s election to office. He has them convinced that Fenty and Rhee are trying to remove all the “negroes” out of the city. Scores have mostly gone up across the board but to the generations of families across the river, Fenty isn’t “street” enough for them. They are also mad at Rhee for firing all the teachers who don’t give a damn about the students.

@ No. 13 Cam: I certainly have no interest in getting into a pissing contest with you over something that I don’t care a lot about (the Mayors race). However, I read the article you referenced. For the record, the only thing it says about test scores is this: “Now, for the first time in more than a decade, the city’s student test scores on the rigorous National Assessment of Educational Progress are improving significantly.”
I live in DC and know for a fact that while this statement is true, it is very misleading. The scores did improve, but they are also still failing scores. To help you understand this, because I think you need the reality check, it’s akin to going (on a scale of 100) from a grade of 26 (low F) to a 38 (still an F). Yes, it’s an improvement. But, it is still a failing grade. Your passionate support of Rhee seems to indicate that somehow your are connected to Fenty/Rhee (and if you are not, that’s fine too). I wish you all the best in your endeavors, but lets keep it real.
Jon
Excuse me it’s wards 7 & 8…
Jon
It’s the constant complainers of wards 8 & 9 that Barry has convinced that Fenty does not care about them. Those are the same people who for generations live off hand outs and welfare. According to them Fenty isn’t “street” enough, such as why Gray is trying the homie approach. But scores have across the board been improving and it’s bc Rhee is not afraid to make a few enemies and fire teachers who should not be teaching. The Washington Teachers Union will never have her side bc of that…who I might add are all probably made up of the constant complainers on the east side of the river…

So your issue is that while there has been dramatic enough improvement for other cities to take notice, it isn’t enough for you…in spite of the fact that she has only had around 2 years, and the schools are STILL improving. I’m not connected with Fenty other than the fact that I have lived in the city a long time and I can tell when things are getting better. Your wanting to lash out and attack people, when what they are doing is working would lead me to believe that you are connected to Fenty opponent, or you are related to one of the old unqualified teachers that Rhee fired.

The six reasons is the six pack…. but that was funny
Peter
Fenty is a great mayor. He was one of the big reasons that we now have gay marriage here. He has managed the city well. He is not perfect, but he is the best that we have had in many years. He is smart, with it, and hot. I run into him running along the C&O Canal, and also at my gayborhood barber shop. He really has not had any big scandel (despite what some above say). His ooponent is a arriviste who only recently moved back into the city for a political career. Gray is more than bland!

@ No. 23 · Cam: Yeah, my statements would lead everyone to the conclusion that I am completely and totally unaware of the issues. I’ll just leave you and this subject matter alone. It would be best. Perhaps your HIV meds are causing you troubles? Afterall, you are most likely one of the reasons why DC has the highest AIDS rate in the country. That may also explain why you are so bitter. But, wait a minute. According to you, I’m a “DC voter who doesn’t know any of the issues.” So, that statement about DC’s AIDS rates probably isn’t true, huh? Loser.
