Boston’s so-called “straight pride” has come and gone, drawing a crowd of around 200 and featuring such catchy sign slogans as “Make Normalcy Normal Again” and “Straight Lives Matter.”
Largely absent from the group, however, was a fairly large demographic of straight people: women.
To that point, US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had an astute observation.
“For men who are allegedly so ‘proud’ of being straight,” she wrote on Twitter, “they seem to show real incompetence at attracting women to their event.”
“Seems more like a ‘I-Struggle-With-Masculinity’ parade to me.”
She added:
“Hope they grow enough over the next year to support / join LGBTQ fam next Pride!”
We won’t hold our breath on that.
Her tweet struck a chord. It was shared over 26K times and liked by 150K+:

This isn’t the first pithy dig Ocasio-Cortez has fired off at the eye-roll inducing event.
When it was announced in June, she pondered an even more absurd scenario than “straight pride” itself, asking:
“Will ‘Straight Pride’ be a Freaky Friday type situation where all of our history books, movies, stories, media, news, etc feature mostly LGBTQ+ people & perspectives? Will people have to come out as straight?”
Will “Straight Pride” be a Freaky Friday type situation where all of our history books, movies, stories, media, news, etc feature mostly LGBTQ+ people & perspectives?
Will people have to come out as straight?
What would folks march in? Socks w/ sandals on? Dad jeans? https://t.co/7SUiWHWRMd

Of course, nobody can beat this woman’s viral response to straight pride. She still wins in our book.

I see plenty of black people there marching. Wonder how they justify marching in hate parade that equally hates them as well?

I’d been hoping some interracial couples would’ve shown up, you know, just to sicken the white pride sickos.
But yeah, lone Black dudes were of no use, other than perhaps to “prove” the white pride parade wasn’t actually a white pride parade.
I’m still holding out all hope that if we must see additional “straight pride” parades, there will be interracial couples mucking up the real intentions. Oh, interracial couples wearing anti- tRump shirts of course.

I watched the video, and out of the 200 or so “straight pride” marchers, there are hardly “plenty” of Black people, men or women. 1-2, a few Latinxs, Asian Americans, etc., but the marchers are overwhelmingly white men. Did you not watch the whole video? And why do these white men–most of the marchers–feel so threatened by gay people of whatever race that they feel the need to pull a stunt like this? What are they so afraid of and triggered by?

‘Straight pride’ is an absurdity, as well as a direct theft from our lgbtq+ marches. As the majority section of the population who hold all the political and social power, why would they need to have such a march? The answer, of course, is because their march has nothing to do with being proud to be straight – it is really about their annoyance and fear that they are losing their privilege and power. Even in these days of Trump and Pence running amok through our civil rights and protections, it is not enough for the most fanatical of the far right christians and politicos. However, as the numbers of those taking part in those marches demonstrate, there does not seem to be massive support for the idiots.

Why is it in almost every Queerty post is there one or more spam comments linking to gay singles websites? Can’t Queerty afford someone to monitor and delete these dam posts? I am getting sick of the spam on here like these so much that I am about to stop coming here and I bet there are others thinking the same or already stopped coming here! Hell if I was given the ability to ban and delete these posts I would do it for free!!!

AOC proves over and over again that she’s a complete uneducated idiot.
