We teased GOProud director and founder Jimmy LaSalvia for being “delusional” about the rising tide of pro-gay conservatives in this country.
Earlier this week on MSNBC, LaSalvia (right) told Thomas Roberts:
I don’t think conservatives are any different than anyone else in America. In 2012 every person has a gay person in their life—friends and family… We all have come to think about these issues in a very personal way, and so everyone in America is having this discussion and thinking about these things in a personal way. And many people, including many conservatives, are coming to the conclusion that supporting same-sex civil marriage is the right thing to do.
But when we read his response to country singer Carrie Underwood’s support for marriage equality, we started to wonder if maybe he was just a gay robot with one sound bite in its memory.
“You know, Carrie Underwood isn’t any different from anyone else in America. The more Americans think about how issues affect their gay friends and family the more they come to realize that supporting same-sex civil marriage is the right thing to do. More and more people are coming to that conclusion—and that includes conservative Christians.”
Wow, eerie. Should we discover life on Mars, and it’s gay-friendly, we imagine LaSalvia’s response would be something like this:
“You know, martians aren’t any different from anyone else in the Milky Way. We are all thinking about this things in a personal way. The more alien think about how issues affect their gay friends and clones, the more they come to realize that supporting same-sex civil marriage is the right thing to do. More and more life forms are coming to that conclusion—and that includes martians.”
In case you weren’t sure what a gay robot would sound like:

Wow, a politician stayed on message. :-/

This guy claims that the party isn’t anti-gay and yet was forced to admit that Romney was anti-gay and that he was voting for the New Mexico Governor in the election.
Even Log Cabin has softened their rhetoric on Obama after their head, Clark Cooper was eviscerated when he attacked him for coming out in favor of gay marriage. They tried to pretend that they were for gay rights, but proceeded to attack Obama again and again for being in support of us.
It’s sad when people are such shills for their party that they will do whatever they can to cover up just how bigoted the party is.

Queerty’s misspellings are so common that I’m not sure if your writing “LaSaliva” (twice!) is a mistake, a Freudian slip or perhaps, an intentional pun?
Whatever it is, it’s funny!

Well, not so much a gay robot
as a paid idiot.
GOProud is just a conservative front group, which I think we all knew.
Believe me – Nothing comes out of their mourh without a wad of cash goes up their ass first.

I LOVE gay robot.
Clockwork
I am an independent conservative. I don’t need GOProud or Log Cabin to speak for me.
I speak for myself.
Is he a robot? No, he is just another version of a GLBT political spokesperson, like Stonewall Dems, PFLAG, GLAAD, HRC…A lot of cliches with a vocabulary that does not include the word freedom.
>a wad of cash goes up their ass first.
I find it interesting that others would combine an act of gay sex with political donations to criticize another. Isn’t gay male sex(rectal intercourse), a special union of man with man, that is worthy of marriage, deserving of respect? Why denigrate this act with an analogy of money going up one’s ass?

@Clockwork: Okay, calm down.
First, I was clearly implying that they are like political prostitutes. They don’t really hold a stake in this.
They do it only for dollars, which *most* people would probably see as a big distinction from many of those other groups you shamelessly throw under the bus, who are actually fighting for equality.
Secondly, this may surprise you but straight people have anal sex too. So get off the high horse.
Lastly, I’m not sure if that overly dramatic description of anal sex is an attempt at self righteouness or an intentional twisting of my words to turn them into an anti-gay statement. (Are you kidding me? Yeah, reach a little further…) Either way, it came off as very disingenuous.
I might take your point of view much more seriously if you avoid that.

The typical deflection post of the GOPer. Yes, by all means, lets not discuss the subject of the post. Lets divert onto something irrelevant so we don’t have to face the complete and utter bigotry in the GOP towards gays.

Why does he keep going on TV, representing an organization of five, making a fool of himself?

Gay Republicans are self-loathing.

Darn you, Queerty, for correcting those misspellings of “LaSaliva”! Guess it wasn’t an intentional pun after all. I was hoping you were intending for the gay Republicans to SPIT with rage!
