Walgreens has landed itself in hot water with the ranks of the right-wing, after it’s been “discovered” that they are sponsors of this year’s upcoming Gay Games.
Walgreens, a publicly-traded company, promises shareholders it will not endorse special-interest groups, which the Gay Games certainly qualifies. But the sponsorship isn’t a political statement; since many participants of the Gay Games have HIV, Walgreens supports the Games to advertise their sales of medication. Marketing to the gays just makes money for shareholders. So anyone who doesn’t like it will just have to deal. Not that it matters; they’re too busy boycotting Ford Motors anyway.
We certainly applaud Walgreen’s for not backing down under pressure, and promise we will continue to shop there even though their lube selection is pathetic.
