Is there life for adult film stars after porn? We found ourselves asking this question after legendary Héctor de Silva hung up his jock. His new gig? The retired adult film star is running for mayor in a quaint town in Spain! Talk about a costume change!
But what about the rest of the adult film world? Do they all find glamorous new careers after they’ve retired? Or is it a bit more of a mixed bag?
Let’s peel back the covers and take a peek at what happens to adult film stars when the cameras stop rolling.
Joshua Broome

He prayed the gay away, folks! Just kidding, he just stopped being gay-for-pay. After a short-lived career under the moniker Rocco Reed (NSFW), now-pastor Joshua Broome leans into his past and preaches the good word to his followers on Instagram and his church in Dallas. While we don’t love the career change, we do love a guy who can make fun of himself.
Colton Ford
Documented in the 2005 indie Naked Fame, big bear Colton Ford made a sort of successful transition from porn to pop star. Forsaking more Grabby Awards (he won for best group sex scene in 2002), Ford went on to cover Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” with a dance mix that went to No. 9 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play chart. You danced to it at Mickey’s that one time.
Simon Rex

There were just those couple of solo vids in the early ’90s and the guy isn’t even gay. Still, that scene around the pool still has us panting for Young, Hard and Solo Simon Rex (NSFW). Revelation of his previous on-camera work got Rex famously dumped as an MTV VJ, but he picked up some acting credits on the WB and minor success with alter ego Dirt Nasty. That’s if you call showing up in character as a foul-mouthed rapper on Paris Hilton’s reality show success. And since Simon is still an oiled-up 19 year-old in our mind’s eye, we do.

Markie More

Markie More, the man who once sizzled screens in the world of adult entertainment with Next Door Studios, took an unexpected detour from his titillating career back in 2019. But why, you might ask? Well, hold onto your lube, because this is where the plot thickens. More decided to swap out his steamy scenes for a brand-new gig as an activist. He joined the ranks of some unlikely crusaders: the Mormon-backed anti-porn warriors of Fight the New Drug. Gross, hope they like being back linked to some porn-friendly queerdos!
Tag Eriksson

This Swedish hunk, real name Fredrik Elkund, was some kind of business genius back in Stockholm before jumping into porn titles like The Hole (a NSFW The Ring parody) and Training Camp II. But it was his reverse career change that piqued the Times’ interest for a Fashion & Style section cover story. Elkund is now a real estate wunderkind, out about his porn past, and broker-to-the-stars like Daniel Craig and Cameron Diaz. Bravo enlisted him on Million Dollar Listings NY, where Andy Cohen is presently perfecting his Swedish meatballs recipe.
Collin O’Neal

The star of Mo’ Bubble Butt and Humping Iron traded in his porn card for a substitute teaching certificate at Miami Beach High in 2010. But, like Kevin Hogan below, was revealed and then revoked, by the Florida Department of Education. Happy ending, however, for O’Neal aka Shawn Loftis. After the ACLU turned him down (“Your case would be stronger if your job did not involve supervising children”), he was reinstated by the Florida Education Practices Commission and has gone on to become a popular weather iReporter for CNN, of all things. That POV work must have come in handy.

Harlow Cuadra and Joseph Kerekes

In 2007 we told you about this pair of on-screen and real-life lovers who left the industry for a career behind bars. Cuadra and Kerekes were found guilty in the murder of Cobra Video founder Bryan Kocis and are both are serving out life sentences. We hope together, with a camera crew, because we’d pay to be a fly on their cell walls.
Kurt Wild
Gay-for-pay top man Kurt Wild gave up guys and the business for good in a beer-fueled 2011 Twitter (now X) implosion. All while his wife was about to deliver his fifth kid! Talk about multitasking. After shutting his feed down, Wild sent a message to industry site The Sword to apologize to Brent Corrigan (haven’t we all?) and reassure us everything’s cool with his lady and him. “Now I am working on wildlife photography and family values.” “Wild” life photography. Get it? And speaking of Brent Corrigan…
Brent Corrigan
Brent Corrigan, everybody’s favorite bottom, is an e-commerce Jekyl and Hyde. And who can blame him? During his successful porn career, he toed the line between both worlds, starring in both straight and gay titles. But Brent didn’t stop at just turning heads; he went on to turn the page on that chapter and ventured into mainstream cinema. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, he shed his adult film persona to star in Milk, proving he could do much more than, well, milk his previous fame.
Hytch Cawke

Also known as Kevin Hogan, this guy with the homage-to-the great-director nom d’porn quit the biz to concentrate on teaching, becoming head of the English department at a charter school in Massachusetts. But his past and the poorly constructed title Just Gone Gay 8 caught up with him in 2011 when he was outed by a local Fox station’s “investigative” reporting team (er, I’m watching this hot guy online and recognize him, get me the newsroom). When confronted on camera, Hogan said by way of explaining, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” And who wouldn’t? He was placed on administrative leave.

Guess how much gay porn stars make?
You might be surprised.
In the unpredictable world of adult film stars transitioning into new careers, one thing is certain: they continue to surprise us with their eclectic journeys, from activism to entrepreneurship, and even conquering Hollywood. Their post-porn careers prove that life after the camera can be filled with opportunities to make a lasting impact in various fields. Or, not so much.
Curious about the post-porn adventures of your favorite stars? Subscribe to the Queerty newsletter and stay in the loop about where ex-porn stars like to hang their hats (and other things) after they retire!
LeNair Xavier
@Queerty
Some of these people don’t qualify as porn “stars”, and don’t have great stories to tell, positively or negatively. With that in mind, you could have replaced some of the no-names with some known names of porn actors of color instead of keeping your list so incredibly WHITE. After all, this is supposed to be an AMERICAN-BASED website, NOT a gay White website.

Will There Be More Brent Corrigan Pornos? http://youtu.be/WvZ4iXysxHo
Tackle
@Queerty: I think it’s kinda a stretch to call or consider Simon Rex a porn star. Considering he did a couple of JO scenes with himself. The others did/had full core sex with others.
Bear Aspirin
@LeNair Xavier: Thank you! I honestly have no idea who some of these guys were. Whenever Queerty does a list, it’s always “18 white guys & maybe (MAYBE) a brown face”.

What’s Cliff Parker, York Powers, Mark Kroner, Rob Cryston, Eduardo, Tom Chase, Aiden Shaw, Jason Branch, and Chase Hunter all doing now?
DarkZephyr
I love guys of all colors, but I can’t help but think that if all of the guys had been black and someone said “couldn’t you have put at least ONE white guy in there instead of making it SO incredibly BLACK???” the comments in reply to that would have been very different from the one that is there now. As a white guy, every time I see people bitching about too many white guys or hear them say things like “and of course that homophobe is a straight WHITE Republican!” I find it a little annoying. There are homophobic non-white Republicans as well and not every white guy is Republican.
Sorry just a little bit off topic rant, I guess.
lab
I sure hope kurt wild saved his porn money because his photography sucks

Given the unwritten apartheid principles of some of the writers on here this would never happen. When it does, your point is one to consider.
More general, would it have been so difficult to find a range of men, from different races and ethnicities, to feature? Why is a broader perspective so difficult for some white gay men? Just as homophobia is repugnant, so is racism. And sexism, classism, and so on.
The ex-porn star Bobby Blake, who received degrees in religion and became a minister might have been an interesting person to feature. Another former porn star, Andre Bolla, just received his college degree. But there are many more, and they happen not to be white.

Conner Habib is actually a damn interesting writer. He still does porn though.
Aiden Shaw wrote a book or two as far as I remember.

@Kangol: I wanted to say exactly what you just did, but you beat me to it. DarkZephyr just cannot seem to understand that in a society such as ours, with a persistent racial hierarchy of preference, a list of completely white guys has a different significance than a list of completely black guys. A list of black guys is a list of black guys, a list of white guys is a list without others. Why? Because that’s our history; and our present to a less pervasive degree. Stop pretending that “everything is equal”, especially not just because there’s a black man in the white house. We’ve still got work to do to change people’s minds about the significance of these things (eschew political correctness; a mere smoke screen). And no, I’m not a black man ranting, in case anyone is thinking that. PS: Blacks and Whites aren’t the only people in America either!
DarkZephyr
@Kangol: Bobby Blake was certainly a mega hottie, and he was one of my favorites when I was a lad, he certainly would have been an interesting inclusion. When I read about him last, he differed from many of the guys who have “found religion” in that he didn’t act like being gay and having gay sex was this horrible, monstrous, abominable, sinful thing. I haven’t heard much about him lately, but I hope that positive attitude towards homosexuality remains with him. I certainly would have had no problem whatsoever with the inclusion of men of color. Another one I would have liked to see some info on (simply because I have no idea what happened to him and I always thought he was hot)is Max Grand, a Latino porn star. Roberto Arias also comes to mind and there is SCANT information about him (first saw him in “Cat Burglar” which I cannot seem to find on DVD and which I saw for the first time as a teen). Anyway, as I said, I would have had no problem with the inclusion of men of color, by any means, but I guess whenever I see people bitch about only white guys being featured, I read into it “white guys suck”. Maybe I am extremely mistaken, but its how it feels to me.
@jonasalden: You wanted to say “exactly” what Kangol said, but since he beat you to it you chose instead to insult my intelligence and comprehension skills? At least his reply had some politeness in it and gave me food for thought. Personally, I find it hard to listen to people once they have insulted me.
TinoTurner
I think Brent Corrigan is attractive but I never liked his movies. I’d seen him get gang banged and have 2 dicks in his ass and he’d never flinch, make a face or make a sound….to me, that was disturbing.
Also, he’ll never be a mainstream actor
Bob LaBlah
@TinoTurner: “I’d seen him get gang banged and have 2 dicks in his ass and he’d never flinch, make a face or make a sound”…………..and to think that he was a baby back in those days too. What I love about him is his business sense. He knows he has a face and ass that DOES sell. It makes me sick though when “ex” porn stars preach negatively about the very things that made them famous. Bareback is bareback and we are adults who know the risks. It is THEIR decision, as is smoking cigarettes.

In the case of Bobby Blake, he wrote a very GOOD book titled “My Life in Porn” that is available in most public libraries across the country. He names people and calls out quite a few drug-addicted stars who fell from grace. It makes for an interesting read. Bobby IS an exception to the rule because he NEVER denounces what he was nor those who still do it. He just calls assholes exactly what they ARE. He doesn’t have anything nice to say about “retired” Latino porn star Tiger Tyson either. I had the “pleasure” of seeing Tyson’s true personality at a party back in the late 1990’s and found it VERY hard to disagree with what Blake said about the little runt with a big dick.

@DarkZephyr: Max Grand is alive and well and working at the Walgreens in the Castro area of San Francisco. I’ve seen him around the city a few times with a BF. I guess he’s living the life – like the rest of us.
stanhope
@LeNair Xavier: AMEN!!!!!
stanhope
@jonasalden: This is perhaps the best comment of them all in my opinion. DarkZephyr doesn’t get it and likely never will. I am glad that at least a few of the comments made note of all all too common occurrence. Maybe the author will think in a different way the next time. That is far more important than changing DarkZephyr’s insipid point of view.
maxdadmark
I note that in the cover picture for this “article”, you cut the top of Sagat’s tattooed head off. Good idea. As it is for most of the inked idiots who live in the moment, he’ll find he won’t get far looking like that. I predict a lifetime of hats or hair pieces for him. As for the others…
darkthunder1183
You might also want to make a note that Collin O’Neal was a substitute teacher who got fired from his job when his gay porn career surfaced. Now the question as to who revealed it is still a mystery. Could have been a student or it couldn’t have been a faculty member. Who knows.
douglassnow
The thing about François Sagat and Collin O’Neal–otherwise so very different–is that they both have honest, distinctive, individual characters that were evident and lent force and charm to their performance as porn stars, and are evident and commandingly persuasive in their post-porn lives and careers: Good men indeed.
darkanser
I would think in this age of the internet, it would be especially difficult to have a conventional career and/or normal life after exposing yourself through porn.

Have you heard the news? D.O. has retired.(

Whatever happened to the 80’s/90’s guys like Chris McKenzie,Tony Davis,Max Holden and Danny Brown?

Whatever happened to Paul Morgan or Sammy Case? I heard rumors that Sammy quite after finding out he was positive?

@Lazycrockett: That would be correct since he did say he “bottomed” so he didn’t have to get and maintain an erection (“proof that he is ‘straight'”) on the Tyra Banks show some years ago. I don’t know who is responsible for research for Queerty, but I hope they will get someone who actually does research for the site it would improve by a mile. Oh and no more Tom Daly! They can collect and save for their private collection.
BigRedSion
Don’t know why so many have nasty things to say about Kurt Wild.
Admittedly, he’s done–literally–a handful of tweets and an unfortunate youtube rants (against Michael Lucas, so kind of forgave him that youtube meltdown) during moments of stress, but all things taken, he’s a superstar.
There are several real good power bottoms around like Johnny Rapid and others, but Kurt is really the best since Joey Stefano.
He has had his moments with alcohol, but unlike Joey, Kurt’s grounded by his wife, his brood of kids, his photography and abiding love of the natural world, so he’s got that working for him and won’t go off the deep end like so many others.
I don’t believe that he’s “left” his porn career and we should probably check up on that one–he was a versatile performer and did some great scenes as a top or flip-flops, as well, particularly with his bud Brent Corrigan.
All his work is great, but I was especially impressed with the “off” video he did late in the game with–of all people–Steven Daigle. This was one of the hottest vids I’ve ever seen and I think both stars are seriously underappreciated.
The people who criticize Kurt’s nature photography had better look at his work again–the guy has a seriously critical eye and gift for his work. His video of the bat cave, with his kids, in March-2014, is worthy of any nature special I’ve ever seen and even though I’m a naturalist, he actually showed me things I hadn’t spotted before about bats.
His family–obviously–has to come first, but he’s always going to need male companionship on or off the screen and he’s going to have to find a way to reconcile his porn career with his family values and his emotional needs.
Kurt (Calvin) Wild is obviously a high-level empath and gentle, sensitive soul, embedded in an industry that regularly chews up guys without even noticing…it’s really great that he has his family, his spiritual beliefs, his hobby (and photography studio) and the great outdoors of Missouri to lean on.
janus2005
@LeNair Xavier: Personally, I am glad they are all white. I find white men aesthetically pleasing. Black may tend to be more hung but they all look like monkeys to me personally. Only and only my preference and opinion.
Woody
@janus2005: Your preference and opinion is based on a lifetime, or four centuries, of racial hatred. And your preference, opinion, and racial hatred is ugly as an entire coven of Ku Klux Klanners.
pbcerveza
considering Brent Corrigan was just at Hustla Ball and occassionally pops up on escort sites and has resigned with Falcon his retirement is definitely exaggerated

Not sure who you are referring to. All comments are valid, but would like to know who you it is when you say “Who cares.”

I don’t think it’s true that Simon Rex was fired from MTV for the gay porn videos. As far as I can recall (and I do recall) he was on MTV for awhile after his porn past came out. I remember he had co-hosted Madonna’s “It’s a Girl!” celebration on MTV when she had Lourdes, and this was DEFINITELY after everybody knew about his past.
bearfuzzlover
With respect, I disagree. I believe if one is not shallow enough to look at only the physical looks of someone, he’s a man with a heart of gold and love his image.
François is a creative gentle human being and I wish him the very best possible good wishes as a multi-talented person that along the way, gay porn became a part of his life … and glad that it did, otherwise I would have never hear the name Sagat … and that would have been my loss!
bearfuzzlover
It may be an “American based” website, but for those of us that are on the other side of the Pond, we have a voice, too, and try to make valid contributions.
It does not matter whether they are black, white, yellow or have zebra coloured skin, all comments (as long as they are not offensive) are valid and up for discussion!
BigG
Porn today, quite honestly, sucks. The stars don’t have that magic that the 80’s 90’s guys did. Porn really lost that magic after the internet basically ruined it. Now everyone is a porn star basically if they make videos. The “verbal” of porn today is so fake that it pulls you out of it .

@LeNair Xavier: It’s 2016, With every studio introducing a “NEW EXCLUSIVE” every week the word “Star” needs to be abolished. There are more gay porn whores (haha) than actual SAG cardholders!

HAHAHAHA! SIMON REX??? He was never ever a Porn Star!! He did a couple J/O solo’s. Who the hell made this list up?

@balehead: Jealous! There’s that

I actually think Calvin’s nature stuff is pretty nice, though most of his stuff is weddings, etc. He should work for the state of Missouri as a wildlife photographer.

John Magnum, who seems like a cool, smart guy, recently tweeted: “Thinking of doing porn? Punch yourself in the face. No one pays for it anymore. So unless u want to suck dick for free, find another job”
So, yeah, there are no porn “stars” anymore like Jeff Stryker, Ryan Idol, Ken Ryker. But, apologies to John Magnum, the biggest “stars” were straight guys, or at least guys who claimed to be straight, so what does that say? Ryan Rose trumpets all the time that he is a Falcon Exclusive, but that just makes him seem like he thinks it’s still 1990. Being a Falcon exclusive is meaningless today and has been for a long time. Matthew Rush was Falcon’s only lifetime exclusive, and he ended up doing scenes for any company that’d pay him a few hundred bucks just like everyone else.
Yes, the internet decimated the legacy porn companies: Falcon, Raging Stallion and Hot House are all owned by AEBN now, a straight company. I don’t really miss them or the days of supposed porn “stars”: They had a good run and overcharged for their product for a long time; times change. It’s much more democratic now, and honestly I’d rather see guys who are really into each other and the sex on a bed on some website than the overproduced stuff of the past, with guys in ridiculous costumes having sex in ridiculous, uncomfortable-looking places, cheeseball dialogue and all.
(Of the list above, I’ve seen two in the past: Colton Ford in NYC a few times; very hot, good-looking man. And the Swedish realtor used to go to my gym, and he was an asshole.
