Out Olympian Gus Kenworthy has slammed homophobes for mocking an image of skiers with a pride flag.
The shot was released to promote Breckenridge Pride Week in Breckenridge, CO this April.
Kenworthy took his ire to Twitter after the image, which was shared by Breckenridge Ski Resort’s Instagram, attracted typical homophobic comments about having a week for “straight pride” or how the resort has “forced its beliefs” on visitors. The Olympic silver medalist tweeted out his frustration, which included a direct response to several bigots.

How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
“Always saddened by the homophobia on Pride posts,” he tweeted. “If seeing a rainbow flag while you’re on vacation upsets you then please do the world a favor and stay the f*ck at home. “Thank you to the many ski resorts that designate a week to making more people feel welcomed, included & safe!”

The Breckenridge resort, for its part, has also responded to the homophobia, albeit in a more subtle manner — replying to comments with rainbows and Pride Flags. The event will take place this April 3-7.
Kenworthy came out in 2015 in the hopes that his visibility would encourage other athletes to do the same and lead authentic lives. His coming out also earned him the distinction as one of the first action sports stars to do so. He’s since become a vocal champion of LGBTQ rights and harsh critic of the homophobic policies of the Trump administration.

I don’t know why we don’t let straight people have their pride parade. Let them throw it. Let’s see who shows up.

@Drew,
What do you mean, every day is a straight parade, walk down any street there everywhere.
PinkoOfTheGange
I don’t do anything to stop them from organizing one.
Anyone ever see “stop Str8 Pride” on the Gay Agenda?

It’s called a 4th of July, Labor Day , Christmas parade …etc can we have one day please
woodroad34
It’s called Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day–all straight-themed holidays set up with straights in mind, even though we’ve appropriated them. They are basically straight holidays and pride fests in having kids and heterosexual love.
Drew
Yes, of course everyday is straight pride day. The point is that anyone who wants to organize a straight pride day should go ahead and do it to expose the people that will come out for it. We should take pictures, because it will turn out to be a S**t show. I suspect only the kooks will come out for it with reasonable people realizing that they are not in need of a parade.

They do, it’s called St Patricks Day. That many straight , drunk white people in one place place is scary.
woodega
They had one. It was in Charlottesville, VA. Remember?

The haters aren’t going to be happy without having to make lewd comments; however, from a psychological perspective, maybe they find a rocket launching between their legs, which causing them to begin to have to come to realization about themselves. I know many of my college buddies told stories of Frat parties where gay stuff happened, but they aren’t “gay” it was just they were “drunk.”
I’m all for a straight-pride parade, but I think you can go to most family-oriented events, NASCAR racing, or monster-truck pulls to celebrate those things. Of course, the glitz and glamour won’t be the high-quality that gay bring to all of their pride parades. Just saying…

Gus is one of the good guys.
