Soldiers have been getting it on with each other since the days of Alexander the Great, but with the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, one would assume U.S. service members can service each other as much as they want, right?
Well, turns out, under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, soldiers are forbidden from having sex with anyone other than their spouse while deployed to a combat zone. But that’s not stopping some soldiers from seeking their jollies through that time-honored method of anonymous hooking-up: Craigslist.
A hard-hitting exposé in the Daily Mail — originally reported by the Marine Corps Times — reveals that soldiers are posting “explicit photos” of their genitals and even “sex acts” on the Iraq Craigslist page — “a holdover from a time when hundreds of thousands of Americans were stationed throughout Iraq” — under the casual encounters section. [Ed. note: use responsibly, children]
“Dozens” of posts go up daily featuring soldiers seeking “workout buddies”, “NSA fun” or some good ole-fashioned “sucking and balls-deep fucking.” One poster, noting the site’s appearance on the Daily Mail, hoped that the story “doesn’t fuck it up or invite creeps.” Too late! — we’ve already invaded.
While rule breakers won’t be kicked out of the service, they still face strict penalties. One Marine lance corporal tells the Daily Mail of being caught and arrested trying to hookup with a male undercover Naval Criminal Investigation Service officer. He was demoted down to private first class, docked $1600 in pay, received 45 extra days of duty and 45 days of restriction.
What is this, Baton Rouge? Officers entrapping sexed-up service members? Isn’t there a war or something going on? And considering the danger these brave and incredibly horny men face each day, what’s wrong with getting an innocent beej from a fellow soldier? Hell, it beats getting a prostitute and subsequently, chlamydia.
“When detached from home, without the ability to openly exercise relationships in a combat environment and with a fatalistic attitude, military members would be inclined to embrace risk-taking,” explained retired Army psychiatrist, Col. Dr. Elspeth Cameron Ritchie. “These young men have high testosterone and, with the inability to quietly have a relationship, it is not surprising that they are willing to put themselves into that situation.”
Mmm, all those mens and all that testosterone and all that camo just asking and telling one another, waiting for a release — it’s enough to make a gurl enlist in the armed forces. Who do we have to see about getting a thoroughly invasive medical exam? We’re talking balls deep.

My brother was stationed in the DMZ in Korea in the 90s. Technically a combat zone. Spent most of his free time banging Korean hookers.

Click on the “casual encounters” link in the story, it will take you directly to it.
Jayson
I clicked the link and saw so many fake pictures, but I did see the one that Queerty used but without the big black box…wow! Boys will be boys. This has been going on in the military for decades, it’s just technology has changed the game.

In Viet Nam we started out with prostitutes like many of our buddies. Then some of us found the joy of gay sex with other like minded GIs. It was more fun, safer and didn’t cost anything. Plus we could get it on on base where you were a heck of a lot less likely to get shot or blown up.
Let these young guys hook up. Particularly in combat zones where you need the stress release.

It would be so awesome if suddenly there was an airborne virus introduced into the jet-stream, and that virus did nothing but cause all of the ignorant, Puritanicalredneck DORKS ruining the world and spoiling all the fun (for all of us sinful, doomed to hellfire heathen male sexual animals) to go into a deep, deep sleep, and wake up in 100 years when they are a painfully embarrassed minority of pea-brained dimwits.
We could make them our sex-bot janitors, circa 2113 A.D. Mandatory blow jobbing of the boss would be part of their contract.

The only thing I see that is different from Viet Nam 1967-1969 is the use of craigslist. When we stood duty we failed to check out the bunkers because we didn’t want to find our buddies having sex and have to turn them in. I never had more casual (and available) sex than I did during my 4 years in the military.

Just got back from Afghanistan a month ago. Grindr works so much better than Craigslist.
sdartnut
Amen to that, mcflyer. Do the brass really not acknowledge the sexuality of young GIs? This is like the messed upped situation of RC priests. Repress the urges and they will come out somehow. Usually in ways that will just cause trouble for everyone.

I would like to say that I have a nice uncut care package and would be happy to service our troops so they can better serve.
DarkZephyr
Wow, this was some SERIOUSLY critical whistle blowing, Queerty.

This makes feel blah, I’m about to get married to a soldier who is very likely to get deployed. I think I would be devastated to find out he cheated on me while on deployment. We are a gay couple, I’m not even certain if that’s relevant or not but yea.

Given that the NSA seems to have unfettered access to personal emails, a soldier who uses Craigslist for hook-ups is very foolish indeed. Even if a FISA court is required to authorize access, no one should depend on judges appointed by Chief Justice Roberts to deny access to military authorities intent on tracking down sexually active LGB soldiers. Here’s another reason for Congress to revise the laws that regulate NSA access to what can be found in the personal email accounts of Americans.

@Jayson:
What are fake pictures exactly? How do they differ from “real” pictures?

Nice article. They should have the right to BANG other men if they choose. Not just bang the enemy……
Dominick68
To see the postings, go to craigslist, then middle east, then iraq. There’s no craigslist for afghanistan. Another article I read explained that the soldiers are using iraq. There also. Go to m4m or casual encounters m4m. The hypocrisy is that there are also ads posted by straight soldiers looking for females and vice versa. The Marine Corps Times, the Daily Mail, the US Military, whoever — if the gay soldiers are to be disciplined for the postings, so should straight soldiers. Finally, simply reform the Code so that it isn’t against code to have sex without being married, for anyone.
Moe
I am currently in Afghanistan and I find it outrageous that this has become an issue. It wasn’t an issue before the repeal of DADT. Hell, the Med Stations out here in country (and Iraq on previous deployments) always provide condoms for the service members to take at their leisure. (I find it rather difficult to believe that there are that many married couples deployed in the same AOR to warrant issuing condoms). I find it equally difficult to believe that the military is entrapping service members who are looking for a little private time. On the same token, service members should not be posting explicit pictures while in the service, specially down range.
And just as Dominick68 posted, there are straight folks who post ads as well.
I hope this article is baseless. It’s a waste of military resources. CID should investigate sexual assaults, which happen to be a big problem, not two adults looking to share some private time together.

For all the people who are saying “I checked CL and it’s not there, no one is in the Afghanistan listings”. Um, the article was CLEAR they are using the IRAQ CRAIGSLIST LISTINGS. Get it right if you’re gonna cruise boys.

Armed Forces personnel are subjected to the UCMJ & is so backwards their Constitutional rights DONT EXIST! UCMJ is regularly used as a tool against anyone a commander wants to punish or can ignore wrong doing.
Look at senior officers accused of rape and worse. They get away by retiring w/o charges, ain’t that so easy to get rid of embarrasing the Service.
Now entrap men in combat zones, what’s next? Getting busted on UCMJ charge is ALWAYS on your record forever, even when one leaves the service. Cant NCIS stick to the TV? ? The question is WHY the Navy has so much crime vs Army, USAF or Coast Guard?
