On April 10, Illinois State Rep. Deborah Mell (former sister-in-law to ex-Gov. Rod Blagojevich) proposed to partner Christin Bake over crème brûlée. She said yes. Adorable! Too bad they can’t get married in their own state, which is why Mell is using today to address her fellow lawmakers on the House floor about how ridiculous it is she must travel to Iowa to marry the person she loves. On Chicago Tonight yesterday evening, the happy couple shared the details of their engagement, and more importantly, how their relationship is just one of thousands in Illinois the state refuses to recognize, and that legislators — who have held the Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act (HB 2234) lingering in committee — refuse to act.
Don't forget to share:

WTTW is a PBS station, and they definitely have a different presentation style than a commercial TV station.
