Johnny Weir Splits From Victor Voronov After Tumultuous Two-Year Marriage

The scars from those bite marks are apparently never going to heal properly as Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir has announced he has split from Victor Voronov, his husband of two years.

Weir used Twitter to break the news to his fans.

weirThe two men were married December 30, 2011 and it appeared to be a happy, although occasionally tempestuous union. In an interview with Access Hollywood, Weir addressed the challenge that came with the wedding.

“Being married is an adjustment, and I’m such an OCD, solitary, confined person that it was very hard to open my life and my home and in some ways my closet to somebody else,” he said. “We both are constantly fighting to wear the pants in the relationship.”

That strain eventually began to show publicly. Last November Voronov sent a string of bullying emails to Michael Lucas after the porn producer/activist criticized Weir’s stance on Russia’s antigay legislation. Weir, a three-time U.S. figure skating champion and two-time Olympian, worked for NBC as a commentator for figure skating during the Sochi Winter Olympics, a move which frustrated many LGBT people. Earlier this month Weir and Voronov were in court to settle a domestic violence dispute after the latter filed a police report which claimed Weir had bit him in a way that was totally unwelcome. The judge eventually agreed to dismiss the case and Weir has refused to publicly comment on the incident. But it appears the damage to their relationship was more than skin deep.

I am surprised that the guy who called his fiance “it” to is friends stayed with Weir as long as he did.

  • stanhope

Miss Glitter is just too grand for her own tutu. She said on another website that she only wanted to talk to Ellen or Oprah? Really? Does Miss Kim Kardashian wannabe believe that so many people really care about her and her life? It was messy from the onset. Victor wanted fame a la Mauricio on RHOBH and Johnny wanted attention a la Kris Jenner. The corner of fame and attention is littered with carnage. Too bad she couldn’t make coin from it. I expect she’ll take her Sochi NBC money and hire some paparazzi to get pictures of her like Marilyn Monroe getting in the limo when she divorced Joe Dimaggio. Clutch the pearls….she’s in rehearsals now.

  • Mwestport

And I should care about Johnnie Weird? He is a Russian apologist who should be shunned. He’ll do anything to get a camera pointed at him.

  • SteveDenver

I think it would be very funny if Victor ended up nabbing a nice pile of divorce cash. After all, Victor is an attorney. Or Victor could sell stories to the press and poison Weir’s “celebrity status.” I think that would be a public service.

  • Billy Budd

Victor should write a tell-all book, very dirty and scandalous.

  • rextrek

in my opinion as a 53yr old gay man – Weir is too immature for marriage

  • Caleb in SC

@rextrek: Word. Too immature for most things, except promoting Johnny Weir.

  • Cam

“”Weir, a three-time U.S. figure skating champion and two-time Olympian, worked for NBC as a commentator for figure skating during the Sochi Winter Olympics, a move which frustrated many LGBT people.”””

No, what upset people was his defense of Russia, Putin, and his attacking and name calling gay activists as well.

As for this split, maybe his husband realized that with the gay community turned off of him, and announcing gigs at skating events not bringing in a ton of cash that maybe he needed to find somebody with a bit more gold to dig. ;)

  • BJ McFrisky

Aaaaand so it begins: The lawyers will be circling gay couples like sharks now that gay divorce will cause a boon in business.

Prenup, people. Prenup. No one wants to support his ex for the rest of his natural life.

  • Cam

    @BJ McFrisky:

Frankly I’m not sure that WEir is going to be bringing in the money, which was my guess as to why they were splitting up.

Either that or Victor got a nice chunk of money to drop the assault charges against Weir.

It doesn’t look like Johnny Weir is going to go quietly into that good night. He’s posted on his facebook page:

“I’m so sorry for what I’ve done”

His mom has also posted on twitter: “Brushing up with Merriam-Webster, BOTTOM-FEEDER (noun) an opportunist who seeks quick profit usually at the expense of others”

While Victor Voronov has posted: “Shocked by the abrupt ending of my marriage and am dealing with the trauma including multiple things I am just now becoming aware of…” and “I can not comment any further. For inquires, please contact my legal crisis manager, Wendy Feldman @Thewendyfeldman – Thank You.”

While Wendy Feldmen has posted:” Looking forward to seeing my @TheInsider family very early tomorrow! Yep. We will talk divorce and Johnny Weir and more”

His pending divorce is being covered by TMZ, Radaronline, Page Six, People and Us Weekly among others.

Looks lIke Johnny Weir will be amping up the drama on this one.

  • Kangol

Making a farce of marriage, that Johnny Weir, but who’s surprised?

This homophobic Russia-defending clown is really all about herself. Victor Woronov is right to get out while he can.

We all know that bite isn’t the half of living and dealing with that over-the-top diva!

  • Cam

Almost as if he were TRYING to make the argument against gay marriage. lol

  • Polaro

I’m guessing this is only going to get messier and uglier. I’ve been a Weir defender in the past. He’s on his own now.

  • modernfamilyfan

Your husband or wife files for divorce and you hire a divorce lawyer to defend your interests, not Victor Voronov. He hires a crisis manager who has been convicted of fraud and is not a licensed lawyer? why does he need a crisis manager? Victor is not a celebrity, his invitations to events come because he is married to Johnny. Again, only someone with something to hide hires a crisis manager to clean up the mess.

  • Cam

    Voronov IS a lawyer.

It’s always funny when the odd Johnny Weir fans come in here and try to make up weird stuff to try to make their hero look good.

  • sangsue

    Karma, baby. Karma.

  • viciouslies

Between Weir and Cheyenne Jackson (whose marriage was even shorter than this one, IIRC), we are well on our way to proving that gay celebrity marriages are just as throwaway and shammy as straight ones. GO US!

  • Polaro

@viciouslies: Gay people are totally unprepared for marriage. Be careful what you wish for. I know too many guys who have jumped into marriage who really should not have. We’ll be worse than the heteros when it comes to divorce.

  • Polaro

@Cam: Not really seeing anyone defending either of them at this point. Its all pretty negative.

  • xzall

Johnny Weir posted on Twitter his Facebook page was hacked so it looks like he didn’t post that I’m so sorry message.

His soon to be ex now claims that Weir secretly filed divorce papers months ago. He writes: “Yes. I’d like to confirm, It’s true: I am only now finding out that my husband @johnnygweir filed for divorce from me months ago.”

  • kevininbuffalo

Mark my words; Weir is going to end badly.

  • mcflyer54

I always think it’s sad when a couple breaks up. In this case it seems especially sad since Johnny and Victor seemed to deserve it other.

  • Ms Urethra Johnson

I’m not one for “leftovers”… But Viktor is kinda cute…On the outside anyway. Oh well… back to doing laundry…

Johnny Weir Talks ‘Threatening Marriage’ (Exclusive)

  • MikeE

@Polaro: That’s funny, my marriage is going strong, coming up on our 5th wedding anniversary. I know a lot of married gay couples. I’ve heard of very few divorces.

unless, of course, you mean only “celebrity” marriages? if you meant those, well, that has nothing to do with being gay or not, and everything to do with being a celebrity.

  • Cam

Yes, you’ve already been on here trying to defend Weir. What you don’t seem to get is that Weir attacked the gay community and defended Putin and Russia. Frankly I hope this Victor fellow takes him for what little cash he has left.

  • Cam

Johnny Weir defended a country that is currently torturing and arresting gays, not prosecuting people who are kidnapping and killing gays.

He DEFENDED that govt. So take the $5.00 an hour or whatever it is his publicist is paying you and stick it.

Weir sold out the gay community, as far as I’m concerned the sooner he is gone and living in obscurity the better.

  • robho3

Ms Weir is a douche. She should move to Russia now that she is single—since she loves it so much. She’ll be locked up in a New York minute…

  • Vicki

I have read some of the comments here and have found several that remark on the rate of divorce among the gay folks who have “jumped on the wedding band wagon” so to speak. Really? And one would expect anything different? One of the premises that was used for legalizing gay matrimony was that there is no difference between hetero and homosexual and now this is being proven. The last numbers I was made aware of was over 50% of marriages end in divorce and how many “famous” people have made a mockery of this institution? Nuff said!!

  • modernfamilyfan

And had Weir boycotted Russia, nwould you still be so eager to defend his husband?
