So yesterday Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black announced they’re having a baby.
Sweet, right?
Well, apparently not everyone thought so. In fact, many on Twitter went out of their way to express their regret…
Poor child

Tom Daley announces he is expecting 1st child. How was it conceived Tom did ur “husband” ram hus cok up ur arse deposit sperm in ur rectum is that how we conceive kids these days? Your NOT a mother or father your a FAIRY who is being given a child like it was a pet dog

Behind the ultrasound photo brandished by Tom Daly & Dustin Lance Black is a hard-up woman abroad who has been pumped full of hormones & who has signed a contract giving away basic rights to her own body, including choices of food, drink & meds. #misogyny #stopsurrogacynow
— Caroline Farrow (@CF_Farrow) February 14, 2018
I have no issue, with anyone's sexuality. How people and with who, they choose to live their life with, has nothing to do with me. But what i find ridiculous is, Tom Daley coming out yesterday saying, we are having a baby. Not what he said how he said it , he can't give birth.
— Paul Merritt (@PaulMer45790900) February 15, 2018
Correction: Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black announce that they have bought a baby. The couple have bought a baby taking advantage of their economic privileges on a woman who, undoubtedly, does it by her own choice and not by necessity.

you could have adopted a parentless and instead have chosen to be part of an industry that exploits women's bodies and uses babies as a product to be paid for.

LOL @ not being allowed to form a negative opinion of Tom Daley without being called jealous or internalising homophobia. Personally I just think he's as dull as dish water and thinks we care more about his relationship than we do.

Well, jeez! We know who’s not being invited to the baby shower!
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Luckily, not everyone was quite so anti-congratulatory for the beaming dads-to-be…
I’m in tears! Literally! I’m so happy! You two are going to make fantastic parents! Happy Valentine’s Day indeed! Hello Baby Black-Daley ???

Today many straight angry lonely dickheads get pissy over a married gay couple having a child.#TomDaley #DustinLanceBlack
— David Of York (@Davecarr86) February 14, 2018
Tom Daley has been slagged off by gay men for the following:
• being bi then gay
• being in a relationship with an older man
• being in an open relationship
• winning an Olympic medal
• sending nudes
• getting married
• having a childGays are sometimes the worst
— john (@_JohnW) February 14, 2018
seen loads of ppl hating on tom daley & dustin lance black having a baby? u do realise that straight couples also have surrogacies too right? stop being homophobic you weirdos
— k a i y a (@kaiya_rosalia) February 14, 2018
All jokes aside, the news about about the Tom Daley & DLB baby shows just how many homophobic bastards are out there waiting to boil over with rage at any given moment.
— Grundy (@GrundyOxford) February 14, 2018
I swear Tom Daley could save a family from a burning building and people would slag him off and say he did it for attention. Oh, and internalised homophobia is so 2008 btw.
— Wayne Dhesi (@WayneDavid81) February 14, 2018
Gay men will argue that the reason they hate Tom Daley and DLB is that there's more interesting gay men in the media to idolise. Those same gays idolise Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton.
— Pistachio (@Pistashh) February 15, 2018
If you’re the kind of brainless fucking simpleton who asks, “Why do you still need Pride?” you should maybe have a look at some of the horrific takes on the news that Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black are to start a family.
That’s why. Because of that.

The last thing this world needs – with over 7 BILLION PEOPLE! – is more kids!

Note to Daley & Black:
Ignore the ignorant, toothless, Trump-lover, evangelical pieces of shit and their negative comments. Live your lives the way that you wish and to hell with the inadequate hate mongering morons and dickheads that have emerged from the swamp to voice their sanctimonious rage. My partner and I adopted six throw-away kids and had to fight with indignant “…in the name of God” hate-filled moralists constantly.
America has become a very sick “Christian” country for which there is no hope and no christianity. We got out and have never regretted our decision. You will have to immigrate to get rid of the national insanity and massive evangelical idiocy.
CanadianGuy62
Navalator:
Since your comment shows as a reply to mine, I assume (and pardon me if I’m wrong) that you were referring to me as a ” ignorant, toothless, Trump-lover, evangelical piece(s) of shit….”
Far from it. First of all, a trump-lover would most likely encourage people to go forth & multiply.
I am no trump-lover. I’m also married to a guy.
Secondly, my comment does not come from a place of ignorance. Rather, it comes from knowing that the single greatest threat to the earth is the ever-increasing population.
As for ignorance…yours is showing. These guys live in London (which is in England, FYI). Not sure why you are telling them to “immigrate.” (And actually, since you are suggesting they need to leave the U.S. – even though they live in the U.K. – they would have to “emigrate,” not “immigrate.”)
Your point about having adopted – and honestly, my hat is off to you! – is exactly what I was getting at. People are so selfish that they think the world is dying for their progeny. Fact is, the world is dying FROM their progeny.
Apolodorus
The unbelievable arrogance of people who think they can tell others what to do, how to live never ceases to amaze me.
Condor221
Would you say that to a straight couple? No, I didn’t think so.
Trampsi
I mean, I was not made the natural way and I turned out pretty al— actually nevermind, im a mess.
ChrisK
@gab1991. I’m just blown away by how selfish some people are. There’s a big need for adoptive parents. However, I’m not worried about you are most since this is a rich mans game. A starting rate of 100k pretty much rules most out.
DarkZephyr
@ChrisK,
“I’m just blown away by how selfish some people are. There’s a big need for adoptive parents.”
Would you chastise a heterosexual couple for choosing to have a biological baby because they didn’t adopt instead?
thisismylife247
@chrisK
I certainly hear what you’re saying but I worked for children’s aid for a couple of years and I’d meet these excited couples anxiously awaiting their newly adopted baby. Trouble is, these babies were often born from mothers with severe addiction and/or mental health issues. In all honesty most children in the system aren’t from mothers who place their child up for adoption because they aren’t ready for motherhood- they’re children that have been taken away from mothers who have been deemed unfit. Confidentiality prevented me from telling new adoptive parents the medical or criminal history of the birth mother. Knowing what I know, I think I’d rather a biological child as well
ChrisK
Like I said. @ 100K or more it’s far outside what most of us can afford so this issue is pretty much mute. This a rich mans game.
Oh and all you people saying adopties are defective look at all the celebrity adoptions. Madonna, Michael Jackson, Brad/Angelina, Charles Theron, Cate Blanchet, Etc. It can be done.
DarkZephyr
@ChrisK
“Madonna, Michael Jackson, Brad/Angelina, Charles Theron, Cate Blanchet, Etc. It can be done.”
Its the same thing though…money. They were able to adopt those children because of money. Adoption isn’t cheap.
ChrisK
@DarkZephyr My point was for the ones who think adopting is for losers. There’s got to be something wrong with them if even their own parents give them up thinking.
Paco
Buying babies makes me a bit uncomfortable. I suppose it is ok as long as no one is being exploited or taken advantage of due to economic disadvantage. Are purchased children ever told the truth about where they came from?
I remember reading that they have an open relationship. I guess the kid is going to have many “uncles”.
OzJosh
You’re making a massive assumption here. So far there is zero indication that TD & LB are “buying” a baby. It’s relatively common these days for a sympathetic relative or friend to carry a child for a gay couple, for example. Sometimes there is no financial payment. Sometimes only expenses are covered. And if they are “renting a womb” – so what? There is usually a contract outlining the agreement and payment, so it’s something the woman has willingly agreed to, and is presumably happy with. The notion that it is necessarily exploitative is just nonsense. Many women would much rather collect ten, twenty or thirty thousand as compensation for carrying a child than cleaning houses or working some similarly crap job for however long it would take to accrue the same amount. Some women also just LOVE being pregnant, believe it or not.
Paco
I didn’t say they did take advantage of a poor woman that can only use her body to survive economically and not because she really wants to.
I said the whole concept of renting wombs makes me uneasy because it can have a dirty side to it in some cases.
Ultimately it is the woman’s right whether she rents her womb out or not, but you need to stay away from any language making you sound like that, as a man, you have the right to rent wombs no matter what.
gayguy8001
Hey who gives a flying F**k who they love or who’s babby they get it from you pigheads wouldn’t give a S**t if is was a heterosexual couple that was getting a baby from someone else your just a bunch of bigots
And remember that what you say here can be considered a hate crime according to the FCC because it’s in writing .. so just remember that one
Paco
It bothers me the same when infertile heterosexual couples do it too. If the “walking womb” isn’t having to do it because she is economically disadvantaged, then I am ok with it. I view it the same as people who sell a kidney so they can eat.
I would much prefer that more money be put into research for artificial wombs so only the ingredients are needed someday. and not bodies.
gab1991
Sad reactions, they will have to fight this and defend their right, they could have adopted, but they did not want to adopt, are they forced to adopt since they are gay? He wanted the child to be done with his genes and since science can now provide that and he was able to afford it, I do not see the problem, I do not want to be forced to stay married because I am gay and divorcing would look bad, I do not want to be forced to adopt because I am gay and it seems to be my social obligation to do so in exchange for my “right” to have a family.
OzJosh
Adoption is not always an option. First of all, authorities will not necessarily adopt to gay couples. Second, the assumption that there is a surfeit of babies available for adoption is erroneous in most western countries. Waiting lists can be as long as ten years. And foreign adoption is often way more expensive than surrogacy, can also take years, and can be fraught with legal and political difficulties. Plus there can be issues related to raising a child that might be ethnically different to the parents.
Xzamilloh
The same people arguing “biology” and “science” probably have a bible next to their bed and believe every word in it.
Polaro
Regardless of the topic, there are always going to be trolls to throw shade and be negative (too make black souls out there). This kid will have a great life; and that is all that matters.
chris33133
My first reaction was: good God, what mean spirited responses to what is, usually, a happy event.
On second thought, however: If you’re going to put information about yourself and your so-called private life out there, in public, be prepared to receive public commentary that includes praise and criticism.
JPDonahue
Ahhh… The Internet! Predictably, Twitter isn’t the only source of shitty comments! Why look at Twitter when you can just read the comments here?!
All the best to Tom and Lance! Here’s hoping they raise their children right!
PinkoOfTheGange
Ditto
(i am so glad I read all the comments)
JaredMacBride
Not ideal circumstances for the child, who won’t see her/his parents very often. And at least one of the parents may not be at a maturity level you’d want for raising children. BUT, a lot of children have been raised in similar circumstances and turned out fine. Let’s see how they do.
miserylovedme24
The bigger issue I would think is that their relationship has never seemed to be the strongest. I was expecting a breakup announcement before a baby one.
Brian
Oh my god, people on Twitter said nasty things about gay celebrities. I smell a Pulitzer! I eagerly await the article that exposes that Yahoo commenters aren’t all nice people either.
Paco
It’s probably a good thing that no Queerty articles ever get shown on yahoo. The comments tend to be very brutal and numerous there. All the HuffPost articles there are like tossing red meat to starving lions.
Donston
I mean, I’m not a “fan” of this couple. I could never be a fan of a relationship that started between a dude in his 40’s and a dude who was a teenager. And it is true that they do a lot of shi*t for attention and seem to be obsessed with manipulating a certain public image above all else. And yeah, adopting a child always makes more sense to me when it comes to same-sex couples. Like Paco, I feel it should be the first option for infertile hetero couples as well. With same-sex couples adoption just lessens the chance of possible drama if you break up, and for people this rich it’s pretty straight-forward and not nearly as convoluted or potentially complicated as copping a surrogate.
I wouldn’t bother putting out shady Tweets though But that’s partly why Twitter exist. It doesn’t seem like there’s a genuine large outcry. However, it is true that internalized homophobia and self-loathing can often drive people’s opinions of things like this. Many folks in same-sex relationships resists raising children because of that internalized homophobia/self-loathing or will concoct a half-baked hetero relationship just so they can raise a child under the thin veil of a “hetero normal” family. And those types of feelings towards self and those types of motivations aren’t going away.
Kangol
I also think adopting may be the better option, but one effect of LGBTQ equality in the US, a good thing, is having the option to have your own kids, including by surrogate. People talk about this couple’s instability, but straight people have kids no matter what their lives may be like, sometimes nearly dooming their children because they’re unable or unwilling to properly raise them. I’ll give Daley and Black the benefit of the doubt about this, and hope they’re in it for the long haul, at least in terms of taking care of their child or children.
With the age situation, does the gap weird people out more if it’s 2 guys as opposed to a man and woman? I ask because no one ever talks about it, but the current president and first lady has a sizable age gap. I think she she was 18 and he was 51 when they met in 1998, whereas Tom Daley was 19 and Dustin Lance Black was 39 when they met and hooked up, in 2013. Hetero couples still get away with immense age gaps with people saying little about it, though this current #metoo moment and the Roy Moore case ave spurred some conversation on the topic.
Kangol
Oops–Melania was 28, not 18. I shaved a decade off her birthdate.
Donston
I look on hetero relationships between a 30+ year old person and teenager with the same side-eye as well. And adopting a kid wouldn’t be an issue for this couple. While DLB was just complaining about how tough marriage is, even hinting that they might be on rocky ground and that they spend a ton of time apart. Doesn’t seem like the perfect time to bring a kid into the mix, especially after just one year of marriage. It also seems odd that they’d put this info out there so early into the pregnacy.
But I’m not trying to kill their joy. I just understand why some don’t fully embrace these two and why some some percieve them as sketchy or annoying. The ire and constant bitterness is unness however.
Paco
“While DLB was just complaining about how tough marriage is, even hinting that they might be on rocky ground and that they spend a ton of time apart. Doesn’t seem like the perfect time to bring a kid into the mix, especially after just one year of marriage. ”
@Donston – Having a baby to try and save a faltering marriage is a very common heterosexual thing to do. Problem is when the marriage fails anyway and the kid suffers for it.
Maybe they have fixed their problems and insecurities and are just ready to create a family. My only hope is that the child becomes number one in their lives, at least while it is very young and needs them the most.
Daniel-Reader
Good for them. Wish them only the best in having a healthy kid. Good for anyone to have a planned child who is loved and wanted.
Evji108
Congratulations to them both, I wish them all the best in their quest to have a family together.
I don’t know why this forum attracts so many bitter negative people, but I wish them the best as well and hope that they kind find a way to be happy in this life too. it must be painful for you to be stuck in your dark world where all you can see is what is wrong with everyone else and none of the good in people and situations.
nemesis9
Why do you make news out of the opinions of 10 nobodies on Twitter?
Jaxton
Dustin and Tom are not both having a baby. The baby is derived from a female and a male. Only one male can have a baby.
Congratulations but don’t claim you are both having it.
Polaro
Thanks for the information. I’m sure none of us knew that.
Donston
Jaxton/Brian simply doesn’t have any real respect for same-sex love, relationships or orientation. He sees homosexuality as merely a “behavior”, which is why he presses stuff like this and also says things like the same gender can’t have sex. It is what it is.
Donston
The sad thing is from my experience his perspective (aka unrelenting internalized homophobia, hetero envy and hetero worship) isn’t that unusual for gay and gay-leaning people.
Sam6969
Congratulations to Dustin and Tom.
Sending positive vibes to them, the baby and the surrogate mother.
Tobi
I think it’s perfectly lovely that Tom will have someone his own age to play with.
ChrisK
Ha. I was thinking they were just training Dustins next husband.
gft77
Anyone who has the capacity to love and take care of a child is fine by me. We have too many “straight” people who are baby factories and could care less what happens to their kids moment to moment, so people should look around before throwing shade.
Kieran
The article doesn’t say which one donated the sperm. Who will be the biological father?
And as for the homophobic haters who seethe at the idea of gay men reproducing. Good. Seethe. Stew. Eat your heart out.
brdbointx
Here’s the deal…overprivledged, self-absorbsorbed indiviuals. Daily has some talent. Black has spent his life hawking his mediocre skills to a nitch of needy gays. The bottom line is—who cares? Why do my fellow LGBTQ community members feel the need to glorify these publicity hacks? If they were the couple down the street you would bitch about one being a classic Peter Pan chasing boys he can impress. You would dismiss the other as an attention seeking twink. They are ridiculous. Have a baby. Good for you. Perhaps soon they will grow up and become adults who are capable of raising a child. Don’t hate. Just ignore. They are a sad commentary.
A final FYI…married, educated (PhD), more than a career going. My husband and I are neither envious or in need of role models. Because I know the dissenting response is always a variation of “you must be jeleous.”
gayand gray
Good God. I am glad I never ran into you or tried to friend you 33 years ago. My husband has 2 children from his first marriage. I guess you think we can not or should not raise these children,. Well we did. I know have two grown children, and been blessed with Two super Grand Children . I tell you what , I will never tell you how to live your life, you do the same.
kyscott28
Congrats to Tom & Lance! I hope you & your baby have all the happiness in the world!!!
(To the haters: Every man I know says “we’re having a baby” when only his wife is physically having the baby. Don’t complain over semantics. If they’re that important, please do refer to yourselves as the “gay bashing, jealous, ignorant, straight men whom have nothing better to do than stick your self righteous noses in to every gay persons business” that you are).

So if you’re wearing a t-shirt made by kids in Bangladesh almost for nothing, or if you use an Apple McBook assembled by someone in China who has to work 20 hours a day, or a sneakers made by Vietnamese prisoner, it’s not am exploitation, but if someone buys a womb and an egg it is. Double standards as they are.
