Just two days before the release of her highly anticipated (and very satisfying) ABBA cover album, Dancing Queen, police raided Cherâs Malibu mansion and arrested her assistantâs son.
Ventura County police executed a search warrant for the property and promptly arrested 23-year-old Donovan Ruiz on suspicion of supplying narcotics that were involved in a drug overdose.
Detectives also reportedly obtained evidence in the home of illegal drug sales.
Cher was not home during the time of the raid, which included cops, firefighters and paramedics storming the scene.
Ruizâs bail was set at $500,000 and heâs due to appear in court on October 1, facing the charge of sale of a controlled substance.
Cher is currently on tour in Australia.

Drugs should be legalized and sold by the government, under very high taxation. This would eliminate drug dealers, eliminating drug related crime and drug related violence. And the money from taxes could be used in campaigns to reduce drug use and explain their dangers.

Stop making sense! đ
gskorich
hmmm. pot is legal now but there are still pot dealers ? how do you explain that ? one reason could be the taxes are too high making the pot too expensive. do you think this might happen if you over tax narcotics?
Agamic
But then, how would “for profit” prisons make money ?

Actually, the wholesale price of pot has dropped dramatically with legalization. The illegal import of marijuana has dropped as well which is why the cartels have cut back on marijuana cultivation and switched to heroin, meth, and cocaine. There is no longer the profit to be made on marijuana that once existed.
There are still street level illegal pot sales in states where pot is not legal but the situation is similar to that which exists for cigarettes. There is still a market for untaxed cigarettes but this has not stopped the legal sales of cigarettes. Your argument is rather silly.

He was dealing Fentanyl, NOT pot. Fentanyl is a deadly pain killer like morphine that only doctors administrate. People die on Fentanyl.

Actually, Juanjo, it is my observation that retail dispensary prices are way too high for the average person but that, yes, black-market is still relatively cheap….. which is why the black market will always thrive because the dispensaries are creating strains geared to specific ailments and/or purposes while black-market have the rudimentary American cultivation. I mean, this is the kinda buzz-kill you have to deal with in a dispensary when all you want is a buzz: “Flowerbomb Kush strain is a High Times Cannabis Cup winner by Strain Hunters Seed Bank and it is a cross between the two famous marijuana strains Green Crack and OG Kush. With this cross, the earthiness of the OG Kush is accented by the fruity Mango flavor of the Green Crack, making this an excellent tasting strain. We recommend Flowerbomb Kush marijuana for muscle spasms, stress and anxiety.” Really? Do you, now!

gskorich – Really? Are you that naĂŻve?
That is the same as contractors, landscapers, teachers, doctors, electricians, nannies, etc… (the list is endless) who’s professions are all legal but there are still many folks out there doing that work without licenses.
Just because something is legal and taxed doesn’t mean people will obey the law.
batesmotel
Illicit Fentanyl is NOT legal, which is what he was distributing illegally. It’s a deadly drug. This wasn’t about pot.
Wayne_in_NYC
Until the federal government recognizes the stateâs sovereignty and their legalization, the lawful distribution is still subject to prosecution.

The headline failed to summarize the major points of this newsworthy event. The raid actually had nothing to do with Cher, nor her album, nor the timing of her release. Thus, it’s clickbait. You can do better than this, Queerty!

Hear, hear!
seaguy
Sounds like Cher might be looking for a new assistant. One that does not let their offspring use the stars home to deal drugs from.
Birdbrain1963
Cher had nothing to do with this. I am sure she was as shocked as the people reading this.
With that said, I wish she would quit doing covers and start writing again…
gymmuscleboy
Imagine how stressful it would be to be on the other side of the world and learn that your home has just been raided!
gymmuscleboy
By the way, that’s not Cher’s house. She sold that in 2014.
