Five years after giving up alcohol and dropping 40 pounds with a regular fitness regimen, Tim McGraw is proving just how sexy sober living can be on the August cover of Men’s Health.
The 47-year-old country singer appears shirtless in at least one photo in the interview’s accompanying photoshoot with celebrity photographer Ture Lillegraven, putting his absolutely jaw-dropping body to work for some weight training exercises that make Joe Manganiello look like an amateur.
McGraw tells Men’s Health that starting a new, healthier lifestyle saved his life. “When your wife tells you it’s gone too far, that’s a big wake-up call,” he says. “That, and realizing you’re gonna lose everything you have. Not monetarily, not career-wise, but family-wise. It got to the point where my kids were getting older, and it was way past the point that they noticed it. And I noticed that they noticed.”
Check out some of the photos over at Men’s Health, and indulge in these other hot gems we found lying around the Internet:

Thanks Tim, maybe you’ll inspire some of these country music lovin’ couch potatoes down here in South Carolina! I could use something nice to look at. The obesity rate here is out of control and its so sad that everyone just accepts it as “normal.” I hope you’re the beginning of a trend!

You too can look like this if you don’t have to go to work 5 days a week and can afford daily personal training, a nutritionist and private chef.

Mmmm papi
DB75
Ok, it’s official. I hate Time McGraw.
DB75
@DB75: Did I really just type, Time?! Oh Lord….
stanhope
@Qjersey: Ain’t that the truth….these celebrities that don’t have to work 8 hours a day 5 days a week or more who have the resources to have personal trainers on call and travel with them, private chefs to make what they want/need to eat on a moment’s notice and top of the line gym equipment right at the house can have bodies like that. This is not the reality for most folks.

He was more fun and sexier in his drinking days. He should have left that blond bimbo so-called singer years ago and moved in with moi.
petensfo
Sorry, guys… he’s too skinny for me. I’ll take a swimmer bod or yoga bod any day over that kind of obsessive physique. With that kind of dedication, I’m sure he’s an excellent lover… not really. lol
gskorich
jaw dropping?
Paco
This is gay news because?
Oh because it is a shirtless man with a nice body. Silly me.
DarkZephyr
@petensfo: Normally I might agree with you but Tim here is just too hot in my eyes for me to gripe about it. Wow. *drool*.
As for those sniping that he can look that way because he “doesn’t have to work”, maybe so, but he isn’t a success because he sat on his bum and had it all handed to him. I just don’t get the automatic need for hostility because he’s fortunate. I wish I was as fortunate. I think most people who snipe and snark about financially successful people do so because they would love to also be financially successful. *shrug*
DarkZephyr
@DarkZephyr: And the first part was meant for @Paco: And not @petensfo:
@Paco: My jaw dropped. Literally. I never before saw this man as sexy but woooow. He is to me now. Plus it’s nice to see that a man closing in on 50 can look this way. Its inspiring as we will all be at that age someday.

If its a choice between extremes, Tim Graw’s current body type is far more appealing, at least to me, than someone drastically overweight. That said, Tim is a bit too thin in my opinion. Tying his physique to his celebrity & waelth, though, is unfair. I know plenty of guys who work out regularly while working 8 hours a day or more 5 days a week. Its a question of objectives and even guys with very little money who work all the time can work out cheaply or at least they can here in NYC….or eat potato chips all day long anywhere in the USA.
To each his own.
Paco
@DarkZephyr: No argument here. He looks great. My favorite photo is the third one down with the blue cap. I have always loved that lean and tight type of body. A huge amount of bulk, whether it is fat or muscle, has never been a turn on to me.
rickhfx
Does he wear a toupee? He hides his head a lot, and when he doesn’t his hair looks like a toupee. Bald is hot, but toupees not.
Ihadtosayit
I am 46 years old, 6’1 32 inch waist 185 lbs with a lean and defined body…because I remember the following fact: my body is 75% of what I do NOT eat and 25% exercise.
erasure25
Eek. He looked better before. This is just too emaciated.
SteveDenver
McFail: Compared to McGraw, Joe Manganiello does not look like an amateur. He’s still dreamy.
brandon
Wait? You can only look like this if you have a trainer, nutritionist and a personal chef?? Hmm, I must be doing something really right on my own then.. Diet is simple, shop around the corners of the grocery store, not the middle and buy a 30 dollar/month gym plan.. Bam! it’s honestly that simple, and pretty inexpensive.
masc4masc
@brandon: I was thinking the same thing. It’s not like McGraw’s super jacked; he just leaned out. Can only imagine how lazy some of these guys must be if they really think this takes a trainer, nutritionist and chef. It’s very doable on ur own.
PARKAVMAN
He hardly makes Joe Manganiello look like a slacker, but he definitely has worked on his body. He looks great, but older. Losing weight will do that. So will the tan.
retropian
@brandon: Exactly right. It’s a reflection of the haters own unwillingness to do the work for themselves. I used to know someone like that, always making self-depricating comments about his weight as if it were an inalterable cosmic fact to delude himself there was nothing he could do about it. All to avoid the obvious: eat right and workout. That being said, I wonder if he’s traded one addiction; alcohol, for another; fitness. I know someone like that too.
ho
Great. He can prance and dance around Faith’s bed now. Lord knows she has the rhythm of a cow.
DickieJohnson
@retropian: Yeah, well, better fitness than alcohol. “Been there.”
coffeeaugur
He doesn’t look that beefed up … that’s actually just what normal people that do manual labor for a living look like
TVC 15
@Qjersey: I disagree. At my gym there are quite a few men in their 40’s (and some going on their 50’s) who have full time jobs, and have the discipline to take care of themselves through diet and exercise. Myself included.
We may not all look exactly like Tim (some do), but that’s not the point. You set your goals, you feel good doing it, and you’ll also look great. Now that the weather is better, I bike to/from work every day for a total of 16.5-18.5 miles (r/t) depending on which route I decide to take. All that helps. You just got to do it. Once you start and it becomes part of your daily routine, it’s a non-issue.

Now that he’s getting a divorce, I guess he’s getting his body ready to get back into the dating game. Wouldn’t be surprised if he starts dating a girl half his age. And why not? Good for him. Great for her! But: Poor Faith Hill :-(.

Hmmmmm….something doesn’t add up here. That isn’t beefing up. That looks sick to me. He looks ill with a virus. I hope not. No man would choose to look that emaciated. I hope he will come out so he can raise awareness around HIV. He and Kenny have the same thing going on…all about their abs, super skinny, gay rumors everyday. I just hope that they are both ok.
