Seven children fell through the ice of an freezing cold pond in Central Park. Luckily, two models were nearby to help, NBC New York reports.
Bennett Jonas of California and Ethan Turnbull of Australia are models signed with Soul Artist Management. They were skateboarding near the pond on Monday evening when they saw the kids, who had been dancing on top of the ice, fall through.
“I look over, I saw six heads just trying to get to the shore,” Jonas says. “The back one was probably a good 20 yards from dry land.”
Jonas immediately jumped into action and began pulling the children out of the frigid water, handing them over to Turnbu, who made sure they were placed back on solid ground.

“The last two at the end, the kid at the end was unconscious,” Turmbull said. “[Jonas] got him out, he was kind of out of breath, and [Jonas] threw him to me. I just kind of minded him until he came to.”
EMS arrived to provide first aid and brought the children to local hospitals to be treated for minor injuries, mostly hypothermia-related. Divers then went into the water to make sure no one else was in the pond.
“I was in this park for a reason tonight,” Jonas says. “I could’ve been anywhere right now but I was 100 yards away from kids who are drowning.”

Er, yes. As a New Yorker, i saw this story reported on several local channels (I’m a news addict and watch 4 channels of local news). Some reports didn’t mention that they were models. One story simply said, “skateboarders” and another said, “good Samaritans.”
Why the cynicism? Yes, this was a newsworthy story because of the cautionary tale to others who might wander over thin ice. Indeed, that was the focus of WCBS. Furthermore, they interviewed one if the boy’s grandmother, who said the kid was grounded because he didn’t have permission to go to Central Park. I don’t know where you live, but please don’t project your fascination with “super hot models” onto us New Yorkers. We natives are pretty blase about celebrity sightings. I personally live in Soho, near several models (Naomi Campbell used to live a block away), and within walking distance of several modeling agencies. But I have never oogled them, nor notice them unless a crowd formed.

Go to the NBC New York page linked in the article. Where does the story say anything about models? In fact, the title is, “Skateboarders, FDNY Rescue 7 From Icy Pond in Central Park.” Not once is there any reference about the rescuers being attractive or models. We New Yorkers are regularly given feel-good stories about good Samaritans, regardless of how the rescuers or rescued look. So yes, the story alone, both as an affirmation of humanity and a cautionary tale, would have made it newsworthy.

I bet you’re fantasizing about Bennett and Ethan in their semi-transparent wet clothes, right after the rescue. ? I’m a bit more practical (and a straight health care provider), so all I could think about was how awful it must have been for Bennett to be in that wet clothes in the cold. Unlike the victims, who probably got warm blankets from EMS, poor Bennett had to walk around in NYC soaking wet. Ugh. Then they got back to their apartment where they undressed each other before scrubbing each other lovingly in the shower…

These weren’t children. They were dumb as shit teenagers (13-16) who ignored signs telling people to not go on the water, and still went on the water when it hasn’t been consistently below freezing in NYC for weeks. News reports in NYC mentioned they wanted selfies. The dancing suggestion is new. Good on these men for helping them out though.

Wow. Some here even said the teenagers should have drowned, etc. How ridiculous. And others were complaining about the story. Some (like lauraspencer) have serious personality problems. As far as these kids they made a big mistake that almost cost them their lives. They were rescued. Wishing that they should have died is disgusting. People make mistakes in life, and wishing punishment on them says more about how messed up you are!
This is just a nice story on a privately owned blog. Yes, the proofreading could be improved, but you don’t get to dictate what content will be posted or not.

Yes these two guys were quite clearly “models”. They were MODELS of heroic behavior and courage for jumping in to save the lives of these teenagers. Well done, gentlemen. Well done. These children owe you their lives. Right place, right time…RIGHT STUFF.
