A woman on Reddit said she’s sick and tired of her neighbor making disparaging comments about gay people, particularly gay youths, so she’s decided to take a stand this holiday season.

“She had learned that we were Mormon from church,” the woman explains. “We are no longer Mormon, this issue is why I left. She came bouncing over and when my husband told her we no longer attend, she didn’t really get the message. She also must have missed the HRC sticker on my car.”
The women explains that her neighbor then proceeded “to tell us how horrified she was when her son got turned down for prom because the girl was already planning on going with her girlfriend.”
Gasp!
The neighbor then went on to express her utter dismay about how the local junior high had recently held an assembly to discuss transgender issues and trans inclusion.

“That, coupled with the school’s justifications for letting lesbians attend the prom together and doing an assembly that taught kids the facts about being transgender were just too much for her,” the woman writes. “She said that she had to move them away because she was so sick of the gays and transgenders and everyone making their ‘lifestyle’ okay.”
Even though the woman says she was steaming mad, rather than tell her neighbor to go to hell right then and there, she chose a more peaceful, passive aggressive method in dealing with the situation: Rainbow Christmas lights. 10,000 of them, to be precise.
“I know that I’m not going to change her opinion, no matter what I say,” she writes. “Having moved her kids to escape ‘the gays’, I’m sure me telling her my opinion on it won’t make a difference.”
But at least it makes her feel better.

Beautiful.

Bright, beautiful Christmas lights – that will passively aggressively show her!

@Alistair Wiseman: Do explain what you think the proper response should have been.

Do most homophobes even know what all this “rainbow” stuff is supposed to mean? Maybe, maybe not.
And I bet she had no idea what “HRC” is. (maybe she thought it was a reference to Hillary?) In fact, a lot of the political GAY people I know consider HRC to be a totally useless organization that throws a lot of parties.
The lights are very nice, though.

Good for her. However, I am not sure how Christmas lights can be considered “aggressive”. Assertive is probably a more appropriate description of her creative use of Christmas lights to show her support.

Based on my experience (in my heavily Mormon town), that busy-body woman had better keep an eye on her husband.
Not a day goes by that the Mormon business men here aren’t cruising Grindr for a little something to suck on the way home from work to the loving arms of their wives.

Those poor Same-Sex-Attracted [SSA] Mormons: first you have to attend group therapy with you fellow SSAs, then you are encourage to do social stuff with your SSA buddies, then you inevitably sleep with each other. Hence the Mormon SSA mantra: Sin, Repent, Repeat.

Usually with homophobes – ignorance rules. He probably has no clue what the colors represent.

Mr. Jablowme, I thought Chad Griffin would make HRC smarter until it was recommended that Republican, Mark Kirk (who was against Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagen) be supported, over Tammy Duckworth.
1EqualityUSA
Merely because Mark Kirk managed to get eight GOP’ers to sign onto an equality bill, HRC acquiesced. HRC deemed that Kirk’s response during a debate was a r a ci st jab at Duckworth, only then did HRC drop its support for the Republican.

A vacant Supreme Court seat, resultant by the demise of O pus-D ei-dreamer-Scalia, and still HRC pushed for a Republican Senator; it was clear that there was no hope for this H uman R ights C ampaign.

Apologies for breaking up this comment into 3 parts. (The auto-censor was vexing me today)

I doubt the neighbor even cares.
