THE SHOT - Chicago couple Lakeesha Harris and Janean Watkins take a snapshot as the first couple to get a civil union license at the Cook County Clerk’s office. Illinois is the sixth state to allows civil unions or their equivalent. Hawaii and Delaware have both passed civil union laws that have not yet been enacted.

They’re not exactly the first to get a civil union; just the first to get the license. They can’t do anything with it until tomorrow, and others may beat them.
Nonetheless… congratu… no, wait, you’re not supposed to say that to brides. Well, whatever you *are* supposed to say, I hope it sticks!
