Divine
DIVINE!

The late, great Divine made a few appearances at Grey Ant's Los Angeles fashion show yesterday. As you can see, the original Hairspray and Pink Flamingos star adorned a skimpy bathing suit. Sure, the real Divine wouldn't look so hot in it, but she looks great on it!

The wackiness didn't end there - Grey Ant included black and plus-sized models in their show! OMG!

See some more shots after the jump.

Gays Don't Want 'Hairspray'
Object To, Plan To Boycott Over Travolta's Scientological Madness

Some theatrical gay activists are taking on the musical remake of John Waters' cult classic, Hairspray. It seems the drama-ramas are making some drama over Scientologist John Travolta's dual roles as Edna Turnblad and Arvin Hodgepile. As you know, those crazy scientologists don't believe in medicine, faggotry or fun of any flavor.

Now Washington Blade managing editor Kevin Naff's helping rally the troops for a good old fashioned boycott. He tells MSNBC:

Travolta, a prominent Scientologist, has no business reprising an iconic gay role, given his [religion’s] stance on gay issues. It’s well known that Scientology rejects gays and lesbians as members and even operates reparative therapy clinics to ‘cure’ homosexuality.

Naff goes on to suggest that Divine, who originated the roles, is "spinning in her grave". Um, Naff obviously doesn't know Divine. That bitch is probably gathering strength to reanimate, eat her way out of her grave and wreak havoc on all of Tinsel Town. Except West Hollywood, of course…

Divine in the O.C.

For those queens in or visiting Southern California, you have just a few weeks left to jaunt on over to the Orange County Museum of Art in Newport Beach to see a retrospective of iconoclastic and more importantly fabulous director John Water’s recent photographic and sculptural work. Ok, sounds a little too arty for a just-after-Christmas trip, but this is not some chain-smoking art fag. This is a Hairspray/Pink Flamingos art fag, so you know it’s worth the trip.

In his artworks, Waters uses still photography to reflect on the visual vocabulary and the emotional and psychological power of filmmaking. The act of extracting images from films that takes place in these photographic works allows Waters to emphasize the multitude of ways in which we respond to both moving and still photographic images. Through his insistent allusions to the editing process, Waters encourages viewers to consider how each of us creates our own personal narratives as we decode, interpret and re-contextualize the plethora of images that constantly bombard us.

A mixture of sculpture, photographs, and never before seen short films (our favorite is simply titled Farrah) the exhibition promises to put a shot of wig glue and hairspray into the staid arm of the Orange County art scene. We’re going just to see his recreation of the Kennedy Assassination Zapruder Film with the late drag queen Divine as Jackie O. What more could you want from art? Runs through January 15th.
