Well color us disappointed: Baz Luhrmann’s next spectacular spectacular, a 3D film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, was originally scheduled to hit theaters December 25 but opening day has been pushed back to Summer 2013.
Usually when a film’s release is delayed it’s indicative of a mess of Gigli-esque proportions, but Warner Bros. assures us that Luhrmann’s epic extravaganza is actually exceeding expectations and has “summer blockbuster” mimeographed all over it.
One would hope so considering that Gatsby‘s got the frantic eye behind Moulin Rouge; a stellar cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire; and showstopping sets and costumes from Luhrmann’s Oscar-winning wife/collaborator, Catherine Martin.
Until Leo and company Charleston into theaters, here’s the trailer to whet your appetite for bathtub gin.
How about we take this to the next level?
