Like, you guys, when Roger Helmer, the British lawmaker, tweeted the above line — “Why is it OK for a surgeon to perform a sex-change operation, but not OK for a psychiatrist to try to “turn” a consenting homosexual?” — in reference to reparative therapist Lesley Pilkington possibly losing her license — he was actually defending you fagalas!
“I am always surprised by the instant indignation of a strident minority,” says Helmer in response to the criticism he received. “I am making a comparison between a lifestyle choice of a homosexual who would prefer not to be a homosexual and a lifestyle choice of a woman who would prefer to be a man. All I am saying is that homosexuals have a right, if they want to do so, to seek professional counselling and advice – I have not suggested homosexuality is something that needs to be cured.”
See! If gays want to be cured of The Gay, that should be their right. MP Helmer: Civil rights champion.

In the last sentence of this article you again refer to Helmer as an MP.
He isn’t one.
Don’t give the twat an accolade he doesn’t posses. He would dearly love to be an MP but is too much of an extremist for even any local Tory party to select.

Another sad old straight too-well-fed white man, approaching the end of line, going down screaming at evolution and ever-increasing enlightenment.

Ok, let me say right away that this guy is a douchenozzle and nothing more needs to be said about him.
With that out of the way, the point he brings up (however insincere it might be coming from him) seems… irritatingly valid to me. We all instinctively condemn ex-gay treatment (and for good reason: they’ve been consistently proven ineffective and harmful), but I can’t help wondering why a consenting adult shouldn’t be allowed to undergo said treatment if he or she wants to. Given my choice, I would have it not be done by religious crazies, of course, and I frankly hope that a day would come when no one would choose this option, but don’t we all have a right to live our lives the way we want? Doesn’t that give someone the right to try to change his/her sexuality, even with little or no hope of success?
I sort of hate saying this, so please, someone, convince me I’m wrong.
