Actor Colton Haynes was a guest this week on the Johnny Sibilly Q&A show “Logo Spill.” In it, Sibilly shares drinks and tries to get gossip and revelations from his guests.
Of course, Haynes is famously sober so he wasn’t knocking back the shots. However, he doesn’t need liquor to loosen his tongue. Since coming out in 2016, he has been open about the struggles in his life.
This includes the pressure to stay in the closet as a young actor, turning to drugs and alcohol, and his family life when young.
How about we take this to the next level?

Perhaps because Sibilly is also an out actor, but the two men hit it off and had an engaging, light-hearted but illuminating conversation.
Although neither regret being out, both said that coming out in the entertainment industry still has consequences.
“It was wild,” recalls Haynes. “I lost every deal. I haven’t had a brand deal since 2016.”
“And going to get like six auditions a year for Gay Best Friend Number One, when I was [previously] booking for straight roles,” he adds.
Then there are the publicity tours.
“If I’m in a group interview with a cast or something, they’ll go down the line and be like, oh, what’s your character like, blah, blah, blah … they’ll get to me and they’ll be like, ‘So what’s it like to be gay in Hollywood?’ And I’m just like, ‘Wow’.”
Dating
The two men also covered romance. Sibilly asked, “What’s it like to go on a date with Colton Haynes?”
Thinking for a moment, Haynes replied “Just take a nap. It’s more beneficial for your health, I think.”
“You think you’re boring?” asked Sibilly, surprised.
“I think my interests are not what a lot of other people… I have 50,000 hobbies on any given day. I can’t not pick up couches off the side of the road. I have a hoarding garage where I redo furniture. I do pottery. I paint. But there’s too many [hobbies],” said Haynes.
Sibilly asks if he’d prefer to date someone who doesn’t know who he is.
“Yeah. I do not want to date though. I really don’t. I just can’t do it.”
Haynes went on to say he finds excuses not to date, even if nice guys express interest. He says he can’t match their energy.
“I feel like if someone’s putting all that investment into trying to dive in. I’m not there. And I think most of my relationships, that’s where I’ve been, but I continue anyway and what ends up happening is we both get hurt.”
“I think now I know I’m in a great place being alone. But still, if you want to hook up, DM me.”
Miss Memory Lane
The two men also talk about Haynes’ acclaimed memoir, Miss Memory Lane. Haynes said writing the book was a way of putting his past on the shelf and starting anew. It was “definitely healing.”
However, he didn’t anticipate how challenging he would find having to do interviews to promote the book. He also expressed frustration with how press coverage dwelled largely on his involvement with certain TV shows.
“I put my entire soul into this book. It’s the greatest thing I’ll likely ever do in my life. I’m that proud of it. I started crying when I saw it in the airport.”
“We just have to start making our own things”
This is not the first time Haynes has talked about the impact that coming out had on his career. A couple of years ago, he told the Behind The Velvet Rope with David Yontef podcast, “It is extremely hard navigating the industry as an out person, an out LGBTQ+ actor, no matter how hard the media loves to try to tell you that, you know, things are different now.
“They’re not. I mean, you have incredible movies at the box office that aren’t doing or getting the respect that they deserve. You have actors who aren’t being paid the same as everybody else, even though they’ve been a part of projects for 10 years.
“… I played straight characters my whole career. Then I came out of the closet and now the opportunities aren’t there. And so I think that’s something that needs to change. But also I think we just have to start making our own things and we have to start writing our own things and trying to uplift our communities as much as we can and not be the people in the community who try to continue to tear it down as well.”

I like him.

I have nothing against Colton Haynes. He seems like a nice guy. But haven’t we heard this story several times already? Can we find a new person to feature? Please?

I’m sorry I like Colton and wish him nothing but success but lot’s of gay guys continue to work tons in Hollywood after coming out! he keeps trying to play the victim but if he was a better actor he would be working no one cares about your sexuality in 2024 Matt Bomer, Jonathan Bailey, justice Smith etc get tons of work

He acted well in the Tyler Childers “In Your Love” music video. There were no speaking parts in it, but he did a good job of emoting through silent action.

I lived in Hollywood and had friends in the industry and you couldn’t be more wrong, the actors you mentioned are the execption. the same with women to a lesser extent. One BARBIE empowering women and showing a less than flattering picture of the childless of men and their was a firestorm of criticism like ti was the worst attack on men short of a nuke, there is an entire genre of movies where women are denigrated and made the deceptive villain. perhaps you’ve heard of film noir. Matt Bomer danced around to whether he was gay throughout the entire run of white collar. Colton was on a teen show not an adult popular and he didnt have the advice and the support that some of them have had. His was a rough road and was called difficult and at his level the casting agents are very old fashioned. I think he is a great example of a survivor and has a depth I think could only enhance his acting abilities

Just in this past year alone Jonathan Bailey and Matt Bomer have proved their acting skills and have been nominated for Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards and more for their work in movies and tele series. I truly doubt Colton Haynes is at their level of acting and performance. Hell! Both have even appeared on Broadway with success. Haynes will never become a star/actor who will ever be able to match their output because he won’t even be getting great offers. He’s a man of limited acting ability; if he were more talented, he would have been doing some good work through the years which he has not been able to do because the he is a man of limited ability, as I have said! He should be thankful for whatever he has achieved to date. Were I a casting director or director, he would never be my choice for any lead role. Hell! Look at Jonathan! In April his RIPLEY series will be starting on NETFLIX after his brilliance in the 2023 film “Some of Us Strangers” for which he won several awards as Best Actor.

I can’t stand Sibilly; he’s a narcissistic a-hole, and his virtue-signalling rants and homophobia are disgusting. This guy’s got a big chip on his shoulder.

I’ve pulled for Colton for many years and hope he finds success. I feel he got caught right on that dividing line where the folks before truly got screwed for coming out and the folks after know times have changed and they’re just plowing ahead, with no self pity. I think if Colton can keep his head in the right frame of mind and maintain his determination he can still eek out a decent acting career. But let’s be honest. He is below average as an actor and may face casting challenges for that reason first and foremost. But I don’t think it is a career killer and he can make a living. He’s gorgeous and I sure hope he sticks around.

Colton is becoming one of those people famous for being famous.
Coming out wasn’t the issue it was HIM.
His acting skills are minimal. If he wants work let him work on that not being a media whore.

“Sibilly asks if he’d prefer to date someone who doesn’t know who he is.”
It shouldn’t be TOO hard to find someone who doesn’t know who he is.
Mr.Gavin Elster
More like kinda famous for being kinda famous? Could he do something big for an lgbt+ charity or non-profit? The Trevor Project might be a good fit? The AIDS bicycle ride? SPCA? Children’s Hospital, L.A.? Not sure what the actual interest in Colton really is? The clock is ticking on that 15 minutes.

wow the hate pouring from these jealous gays. they dont have a clue about his charitable contributions or what kind of person he is and for as much a has been as theink he is they are never was’s. How about supporting our brave men and women who do come out and los their jobs and feel into substance abuse – but again he is Avery admirable for stopping. how about supporting that

I love how people commenting on here think they know more about Colton’s experience than Colton does. Yes, Matt Bomer and others came out and did fine, others came out and it hurt their careers. Why? Who knows, but until you are there and experienced it firsthand take a seat. One cannot simply say he is not a good actor. Hell, there are lots of people have “made it” who are never going to win an Oscar or an Emmy. Sometimes it is nothing but luck and the right connections.
barryaksarben
lets talk about the talentless Sylvester Stallone and his creepy plastic surgery or the horrible nazi Mel Gibson and tell me they are more deserving of their straight macho cartoon characters

Ring ring..Hello? Colton, it’s for you. It’s Onlyfans.

I would love to see a new production of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” with Colton as Brick, Julia Garner as Maggie, Tom Hanks as Big Daddy, and Frances McDormand as Big Mama!

Oh I like the way you think! Do you work in entertainment development?
Colton is right in that he needs to get behind developing his own material. Look at Reese Witherspoon FFS! She’s optioned material and developed practically everything she’s been in for years – she’s good at it, and it’s exactly how she’s kept herself on top. You can’t sit home and wait for someone to call you in the entertainment industry. You’ve got to go out for weird indy shlt – and make it work! You’ve got to generate your own show and take it on the road!
Mister Dawson
Wish the man well. Coming out anywhere has its risks, especially in the public eye, professional sports being the most glaring except for a brave few—-yet have come out after their playing days.
I would fire my agent if these are the only roles being offered but the truth in the entertainment business is you are not the flavor of the month for a very long time. We can all look at who was popular either straight or gay 5, 10, 15 years ago and the next time we see them is on Celebrity Password or Dancing with the Stars.
Maybe write your own material might help.
But lastly as a community we need to support LGBT+ actors and actresses in movies and shows. Also we need to call out Hollywood, et al for storylines where the LGBT+ community can’t find a happy ending. Doesn’t anyone gets upset when the gay guy in movies and TV shows ends up sleeping with a woman like that is what we all desire. It gets old!
Celtic
I do not believe it is the agent’s fault. It is the industry.
nm4047
Don’t you need to be an actor not just a TV ‘star’ to maintain any longevity? Not the first and certainly won’t be the last straight or closeted teenage TV cast member to not get real roles after leaving that one time hit show.
Thad
Colton Haynes, even if you are undateable, please keep sober. You’re much more fun.
Celtic
How sad it is that one’s sexual orientation can still kill a career in the entertainment industry. Yet, there appears to be a conflict of standards. Films that portray gay charcters — think Heartstopper, Red White & Royal Blue,, The Young Royals — attract a huge audience. Is the “safety net” that the theme is gay-okay so long as the actors are presumed straight?
