If you thought the slew of sexual assault and child molestation allegations made against disgraced judge Roy Moore would tank his chances at winning a seat in the U.S. Senate, think again.
A new poll shows that nearly 40% of devout Evangelical Christians in Alabama say they’re now more likely to vote for Moore after multiple allegations by women who say he sexually harassed and molested them when they were children.
Yes, you read that correctly, folks. They say they are more likely to vote for the alleged sexual predator.

The poll, which was conducted by JMC Analytics, also found that only 28% said they were less likely to vote for Moore, and 34% said their support has not wavered since the story broke.
Moore has long been considered the golden boy of the evangelical community. He was twice removed from his post as Alabama’s chief justice–first for refusing to remove Ten Commandments monument from the lobby of the state judicial building, and then for ordering probate judges to ignore the Supreme Court’s ruling on marriage equality.
Sadly, these numbers aren’t terribly surprising. At least not when you consider exit polls after last year’s presidential election found that 80% of evangelicals voted for Donald Trump despite the whole p*ssy grabbing remarks and all the sexual assault allegations lodged against him.
In other Roy Moore news, during a press conference this morning, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called on the disgraced judge to drop out of the race.
“I believe the women, yes,” McConnell told reporters in Kentucky, adding, “I think [Moore] should step aside.”
Moore responded by pulling a move straight out of Donald Trump’s playbook: he fired off a bitter tweet:

Unfortunately, we don’t need American “progress” when the evangelical Christians are in power. To paraphrase a hymn, ‘This house is not their home, they’re just a passing through.’
When you have a block of voters/legislators who think this place we live in does not matter, simply because they’ll get heavenly gifts in the after-life, we have a big problem. I don’t trust any Christian who quotes more from the Old Testament than from any of the Four Gospels. Justification for every horrible thing done by any of us (meaning our government, in our name) is always backed up with scripture.
You know what isn’t backed up by scripture? Any social programs that actually help the poor, the disabled or the indigent. Those items actually in the New Testament are pilloried down by conservatives via that Godless Communism and Socialism.

There is a big outreach to get preachers to get their congregation out to “Witness”. After Charlottesville, my middle brother (born again) called my mom and yelled at her that (a lifelong Lutheran) wasn’t born again and hated the Bible. With kudos points for her, she told him she didn’t believe in the Bible (she’s really more atheist, but I’ll allow agnostic at 74). He hasn’t talked to her in two months. He is a smart, well-educated lawyer living in a podunk town in Iowa and I think he is letting his preacher talk him into things he normally wouldn’t believe. His son-in-law is from Africa. His two brothers are gay. His mom is agnostic (at least). His son’s baby mama has Cerebral Palsy. He has every reason to be a liberal, except that he is letting his minister talk him into being against his own family (all his wife’s family is “born again”, so they are all okay).
