Vandy Beth Glenn, the Georgia legislative aide removed from her post after relaying to her boss she was MTF transgender (an “immoral” thing to do, said boss Legislative Counsel Sewell Brumby), has been given her job back — by court order. Fired in 2007 after two years as an aide, Glenn must be reinstated, a judge ruled today, although it’s unclear what that time line looks like. Glenn has said all along that she only wants to return to her old job.

I hope she gets back pay for all the time she’s missed work too. Yet another Georgia legislator more concerned with their faith and other people’s “morality” than with the major fiscal crisis rocking the foundation of the state. I can hear Purdue and his cronies now, “Schools are having to go through major cut-backs on programs and staff but by god we’re going to make sure those queers and trannies don’t get ANY rights in this state no matter the cost.” It’s a shame the rednecks and bible-thumpers finally figured out how to vote. Georgia was a Democratic strong-hold in the south basically from Reconstruction until 2002. Don’t get me wrong, Georgia has always had problems, but I wonder how different the state would look today if the last 8 years had been under a Democratic governor.

Not very.
Hmm
But Queerty, isn’t this another case brought by “Gay Inc” you’re always bemoaning???

I’m curious what the reasoning was — the article didn’t seem to say much except that she could have her job back and some backstory about the firing. I’m curious whether it was gender discrimination, or the fact that it’s a bona fide medical condition in the DSM, or gender identity discrimination protections in Georgia law (doesn’t seem likely), or whatever.
And yay for equality, of course!

Aha, found another article. Here’s the reasoning:
“Today the US District Court for the Northern District of Georgia has ruled that the Georgia General Assembly both violated the Constitution and discriminated against Glenn in her firing. The only thing about her employment that had changed during her tenure with the Assembly was her gender. Under the Constitution’s equal protection guarantee, employees are protected from gender bias in the workplace. ”
