George Clooney might not be a big proponent of matrimony in his own life, but he’s a staunch supporter of marriage equality for gays and lesbians. The Ides of March star has just signed on for the Los Angeles premiere of 8, Dustin Lance Black‘s new play detailing the trial to overturn California’s insidious Proposition 8.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the one-night-only production will be directed by Rob Reiner at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre on March 3, with ticket proceeds going to the marriage-equality nonprofit American Foundation for Equal Rights.
“It is astonishing that gay and lesbian Americans are still treated as second-class citizens,” said Clooney. “I am confident that, very soon, the laws of this nation will reflect the basic truth that gay and lesbian people— like all human beings—are born equal in dignity and rights.”

You guys may love Clooney, but along with Julia Roberts and Tom Cruise, he is the single-most overrated actor in history. No range to draw from, no inner actor, always the same expression on his face. Hope he makes $$ for the cause, but Seth Rogen or Zac Efron would probably have made a better choice if they were looking for someone who can act.

@Holly Would: Zac Efron? Someone who can act?

I miss the dowager actress Margaret Dumont . . . She would have been great for the part of Maggie Gallager . . .

@Peter: My examples of Rogen and Efron were facetious, since neither of them have a single acting bone in their body. Clooney’s just gunning for that Oscar next season by appeasing the Hollywood crowd.

@Holly Would:
Can you tell me WHAT Clooney has publicly done for gay people….at all? In his what….30 years in Hollywood? Also, he’s so powerful that everyone has conveniently forgotten the SH*T he was involved with Berlusconi and the under age girls.
Damn he’s more powerful then I thought!

Pick a little talk a little cheep cheep cheep pick a lot pick a little more…why must gays be so damn catty. I for one find George Clooney to be a great actor and I appreciate his comments for marriage equality. Wish I could see the play.
