Whichever genius decided to put Pride Month right at the beginning of summer was definitely onto something. And, as we get ready to kick off the gayest month of the year, our minds can’t help but wander to one place in particular: Fire Island, the queer utopia just off the coast of New York.
Of course, we’re sure you’re familiar with the fantastic gay rom-com Fire Island, which marks its two-year anniversary this next week, on June 3. But writer/star Joel Kim Booster’s inspired riff on Pride & Prejudice is far from the only time film & television have turned their attention to the LGBTQ+ friendly island getaway.
With that in mind, to kick off Pride Month—and summer!—we’re taking a look back at four very different pieces of entertainment from over the years that take the action (in a wide range of genres) to Fire Island.
