SWISH EDITION

LISTEN: Alec Mapa Dishes Gay Cruises, Justin Utley Sings About Freedom

This week, we’re thrilled to chat with Gaysian sweetheart Alec Mapa. If you know him, you know he seriously had us in stitches.

Mapa, a new dad, talks to us from his kitchen while making turkey meatloaf for his son. He tells us all what to expect on the big gay Atlantis Allure cruise later this month, talks about why he misses the cast of Ugly Betty and how parenting has completely changed his life (his 6-year-old is a straight black kid who is obsessed with boobs, mind you), and plugs his upcoming New York City show, Alec Mapa: Baby Daddy.

Also on this episode, we bring you the music of singer, songwriter, actor and activist, Justin Utley.

Not only do we have two of his freshest tracks—”Nothing This Real” and “Great Escape”—but we’ve got a Skype chat with Justin all about being an ex-Mormon, his quest for federal protections and equality for LGBT people, composing for films, his love of the stage and his unique sound that he best describes as alt-country rock.

And of course we have the low-down on Beyonce & Jay-Z’s new baby Blue Ivy, Mario Lopez’s new underwear line, New Jersey and gay marriage, the FBI’s new definition of rape, the “Sh*t Girls Say” video craze, Kristy McNichol’s coming out, Kathy Griffin‘s return to Bravo and, much much more.

If you don’t get it from iTunes, stream the latest episode right now:

Scott Wallis is the co-host of the Queerty/GayCities-sponsored Swish Edition comedy and interview show. He can’t talk to you right now, he’s busy planning his white party outfit and trying to figure out how to stow a five-gallon bottle of lube in his carry-on bag.
