For most of my life, I’ve been heavily involved in theatre in the DFW area of Texas, mainly Denton. It wasn’t until I moved to Denton and went to the legendary Rose Room in Dallas, Texas that I experienced my first drag queen, who just happens to also be the current Miss Gay USofA, Jenna Skyy. Something about the freedom to be this fabulous, glittery alien spoke to me on a whole other level that theatre never had.

Months later, I found myself in my bedroom, with this horrid mop of a wig and lipstick on, living for myself while lipsyncing to Kesha’s “Cannibal.” After hours spent on YouTube, practicing in front of the mirror, and talking to any queen who would give me the time of day, I found myself performing for the first time at The Wreckroom in Oklahoma City, where I now live.

Two weeks later I worked it out on a different stage and captured the title of Miss Gay Phoenix Rising USofA Newcomer. I never thought that with less than a year of experience, I would ever be a title holder or have the opportunity to perform at the International Drag Festival in May.

Drag has opened some incredibly fabulous, sequined doors for me and has created experiences I will never forget.
