Last time we checked in with transgender widow Nikki Agaruz, she was in court battling for her dead husband’s property while simultaneously creating a reality show about it. Well that reality show just got a wicked twist.
While waiting for a judge’s ruling on the legality of her marriage to deceased firefighter Thomas Araguz, she got arrested for an unrelated felony theft charge. Apparently some woman has accused Nikki of drugging her, taking her $2,850 Rolex watch, and trying to sell it at a Houston pawn shop. Nikki lost her inheritance case, but she’s appealing the ruling which means she now has two court cases going on simultaneously! Ooooh, two-timing courtroom drama. We wonder which Texas gentleman will be crazy brave enough to step into her legal maelstrom as her show’s romantic suitor—whoever it is, bring a good lawyer, buddy.

I understand all about gay solidarity, but to cheer on a felon just because she used to be a he? If you ever wondered why a healthy percentage of the world sneers when we demand equal rights, look no further than instances such as this. This “woman” is a con, plain and simple, and our best strategy would be to distance ourselves from her as far as possible.

I guess I missed the part that says Ms. Agaruz is either a felon or a con. She appears to be the victim of second-class LGBT rights — not being allowed to inherit her husband’s estate — and is accused of something that sounds pretty bizarre. Scotty B, it sounds like you’re all too ready to convict her. Why?

@2 No, she was a physical male when she married and had SRS two months later, therefore the marriage was void regardless of other issues going on in Tx law about birth gender. Tx has no SSM law.
She is a felon, although not discussed in this piece and perhaps not central to her insurance case:
1992 – Misdemeanor Theft $200-$750 – Harris County, TX
1994 – DWI – one year probation
1995 – Misdemeanor Theft $20-$500 – one year probation
2000 – Felony Theft $1,500-$20,000 – three years probation
2005 – DWI – three days jail
2008 – Felony Cocaine Possession – Two year deferred adjudication
*deferred adjudication is technically not a felony “conviction” even though it’s a guilty plea, but her 2000 felony theft charge IS.

She also went on Jerry Springer, blindsided some guy she dated as a woman by announcing she was a man. And has self professed to having lived a sexually promiscuous life while being HIV pos, before marrying her deceased husband. She’s an unsympathetic figure in terms of public relations, I’d say, regardless of how sympathetic people may feel about her gender situation.

Thanks very much! I’ll second Scotty now.

Supposedly Nikki is intersex (Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome) which means she was born with a short vaginal canal and some women have reported intercourse can be painful as a result or not so pleasing to their partners. Some women with AIS have corrective surgery on their vaginal canals to make it deeper.
