On Monday, Broadway Cares/Equity Fight AIDS’s annual Easter Bonnet Competition saw a parade of pooches, a Smash send-up, a gospel choir, and Great White Way stars like Ricky Martin, Audra McDonald, Eric McCormack, Michael Urie, Nick Jonas, Tituss Burgess, Stockard Channing, Judith Light, Raven-Symoné, Corbin Bleu, Jeremy Jordan and Christie Brinkley (above, with the hunks of Chicago).
The Easter Bonnet campaign—which included two shows on Monday and Tuesday at the Minskoff Theatre, as well as weeks of fundraising by Broadway, off-Broadway and touring companies— raised $3,677,855 in all.
Among the musicals represented by oversize, custom-designed hats were Avenue Q, Mary Poppins, The Lion King, The Book of Mormon and Mamma Mia!, which won a special award for it’s entry, a lavender chapeau bearing a globe wrapped in sparkling LED lights. Tony winner John Glover presented the bonnet from Death of a Salesman, while Matthew Risch joined the parade with a replica of the set from Other Desert Cities. The Book of Mormon raised $286,725, the largest amount of any single show.
