Ugh. It appears the Uganda newspaper Rolling Stone‘s attempt to incite violence against its Top 100 list of homos is working: “Several people have been attacked in Uganda after a local newspaper published their names and photos, saying they were homosexual, an activist has told the BBC. Frank Mugisha said one woman was almost killed after her neighbours started throwing stones at her house. He said most of those whose names appeared in Uganda’s Rolling Stone paper had been harassed.” Not that backers of the two-month-old Rolling Stone are taking responsibility: Editor Giles Muhame says that despite a call to “hang” the people on his list, he wants only for law enforcement to investigate those “recruiting children to homosexuality.” And then execute the guilty.

Your headline is in poor taste. Most people aren’t aware that Rolling Stone is a Ugandan newspaper and thus can confuse with with the actual Rolling Stone magazine.
Mark
By allowing this fascist newspaper to continue its incitement to murder, the Ugandan government is sending a clear signal that it does not want international aid.
AdonisOfFire
@Mark:
It’s true, developed nations should cut international aid to that nasty shit hole of a place and let all those crazy fanatics starve to death like the vermin they are.
Mark
I don’t think Ugandans are vermin. But they elected a government which reflects Uganda’s attitudes. And Uganda is genocidally homophobic – not just the press and the government, it’s also the citizens of that country which are revoltingly bigotted. If Uganda REALLY requires 40% of its national budget to come from other countries, then they need to understand that there are conditions attached to that aid – 1 condition being a respect for human rights. They can’t have it both ways – using 1 hand to beg from other countries, and using the other hand to bash gays.
Mark
Let’s not forget that Uganda’s ‘Kill the Gays’ bill has not been dismissed. They’re keeping quiet about it due to international outrage (and threats to cut aid) but it’s still alive.
David
Think I’ll holiday in Uganda this year, perhaps take in the sights.. recruit a few kids into my lifestyle n shit.

@David:
LOL, and “eating poopoo like it’s ice cream”! LOOOOOOOOOL

@Mark:
Well basically they ARE vermin, there are too many of them and consume other people’s resources and only cause destructive obnoxious things.
Paschal
@AdonisOfFire: Americans are the ones who consume far too much of the world’s resouces. If everyone lived like an American, we would need three Earths.

More proof knee grows are inferior violent apes. I just read that Ugandans are being killed by a rare parasite caused by not wearing shoes. A real smart race those knee grows.

Uganda today is not unlike the US a few decades ago, when witch hunts were carried out against “communists and cocksuckers” by the likes of Senator Joe McCarthy. Queerty commenters lack any sense of history or insight into the backlash effect of anti-homosexual policies around the world. There is a fledgling LGBT rights movement in Uganda (Sexual Minorities Uganda) for anyone genuinely interested in what is actually being done to fight homophobia there.
Male homosexuals in the US or elsewhere who wish genocide and famine on Uganda clearly do not have that country’s LGBT population’s best interests in mind and its a shame that these sort of comments are accepted and even tacitly encouraged at this blog.
:)
I wonder how enforceable international intellectual property law is in Uganda…probably pretty weak. Still, Rolling Stone could try to stop their name from being used in this way.
B
Re No 11 “Still, Rolling Stone could try to stop their name from being used in this way.” Suing for trademark infringement doesn’t really work when the target of the suit has nearly zero assets, plus the real Rolling Stone magazine might not have registered its trademark in Uganda (there is an international system to register automatically in a number of countries, but Uganda does not seem to be in it).

What’s really a shame is all the weak ass kumbaya gays like you who rather tolerate a beating than standing up for his rights. Weak people like you deserve to be bullied.

No Alan’s right about the fight for gay rights within Uganda.
But don’t let that disrupt you from your racist, self-righteous rant.

Guys come on… @ some point political correctness has to take a back seat common sense. These people are primitive savages. They might not be sub-human but they are certainly not modern civilized people. Why in the hell are we surprised or even all that appalled that they want to kill gays. They want to kill everyone else too… why should we be different.
Just gonna say something else here, and it wont be popular but it doesn’t make it less true. South Africa is the nation with legal gay marriage… it has a large European (read white) population. Something tells me the roaming rape gangs aren’t the educated whites… Fucking savages.
Now which one of you is going to stand up and defend the murderers and rapists and call me an asshole?
Jake the libertarian
@Jake the libertarian: I am not calling blacks people savages buy the way… I am calling the population of Sub-Saharan Africa savages.

@Jake the libertarian: So your not generalizing and being a racist your just generalizing and being racist.

Political correctness is the avoidance of forms of expression or action that are used to exclude, marginalize, or insult groups of people who are socially disadvantaged or discriminated against.
Generalising an entire continent of black (because you make a specific distinction between Africa’s white – civillized – and blacks – savage) people as raping savages isn’t a sign of a civilised mind. Quite the contrary. And those who are against such generalisations aren’t practising “political correctness” – they’re juts recognising irrational bigotry for what it is. And as most of us have been on the receiving end of such bigotry I don’t find it surprising – as you clearly do – that more gays aren’t as bigoted as you.
I can well imagine the following post on a right-wing site reporting the Richard Robinson story:
“Guys come on… @ some point political correctness has to take a back seat common sense. These people are perverted savages. They might not be sub-human but they are certainly not morally scrupulous people. Why in the hell are we surprised or even all that appalled that they want to rape boys. They want to rape everyone else too… why should we be different.
Now which one of you is going to stand up and defend the queers and rapists and call me an asshole?”
Hmmm. Looks like old-fashioned bigotry, to me.
Jake the libertarian
@Lefty: Don’t put words in my mouth. That’s a bullshit tactic and it’s obvious.
I am against people who can’t seem to stop hacking each other apart with machetes. I am against people who have a visceral hatred for gays… for ME.
You can’t get past the fact that they are black and poor. You have decided that supporting black poor people is more important than calling savage behavior by its proper name… SAVAGE.
They are KILLING gays down there dude. They deserve my scorn at minimum.
Jake the libertarian
@Aiden: I am generalizing, not being racist. Race has nothing to do with the fact that the vast majority of the population of Sub Saharan Africa are terrible people very capable of genocide. The fact that they are black doesn’t have much to do with it…. but they are assholes all the same.
If you can’t get past the fact that they are black, what does that say about you? If roving mobs of Germans were rounding homosexuals, would you give them the same benefit of the doubt? Wait… that did happen.
Lefty

Well, that’s very commendable, dear, but then most people are.
It’s a shame you don’t confine your self-righteous vitriol to the small minority in Africa (who are both black and white, btw) who are “hacking each other apart with machetes” or who have a visceral hatred for gays.
Instead you characterise the entire black population of Sub Saharan Africa as homophobic savages. This is patently as irrational and ridiculous as characterising all gays as paedophiles and rapists. It’s false and bigoted and motivated by one thing: prejudice.
alan
@Jake the libertarian: “South Africa is the nation with legal gay marriage… it has a large European (read white) population.”
South Africa did not have any LGBT rights until the apartheid regime ended. It is the only nation with gay rights enshrined in its constitution. During the apartheid (read white) regime anti-homosexual policies were enforced. In fact gay soldiers were forced to undergo sexual reassignment surgery as a ‘cure’ for homosexuality. It was the African Nation Congress (Black and other races) that put an end to discrimination based on sexual orientation.
It is clear from your comments that you have no idea about Africa (50+ nations), its people (nearly a billion), or its politics. I don’t know what your sources are but your twisted imagining of Africans as ‘savages’ with machetes displays your astonishing ignorance.

They are uneducated fundamentalist Christians in a 3rd world country … Of course they are terrorising and even murdering people senselessly. Violent deranged witchhunting seems to be a common pastime for people in that situation.

If rolling stones has a moral obligation then let it deal with CHILD SACRIFICE!!! I would like to see such a topic discussed and being that its the parents that sacrifice their own children then this must be delt with much more than Homo issue. The children are innocent therefore need a voice through adults that claim to have morals. The outside world must know of this issue much more.
Righteous man
Burn berty homos, all those in support of innocent poor kids being recruited into Homosexuality shud go kill their Mothers for giving birth to them……..U can keep ur dirty aid from getting to Uganda…..Infact rolling stone magazine has set a good example..There is no space or room for sick men in Ug all HOMOS out there bomboclat…..
