According to some of our intrepid readers we missed out on a whole slew of realistic gay sex scenes in movies. While the debate about if first time anal sex should hurt or not rages on (spoiler alert: it sometimes does, but doesn’t have to), we have a couple more movies for you based on your feedback.
Check out the new suggestions below, pulled directly from the amazing Queerty readers comments, and let us know if we missed any!
I Want Your Love
Writer-director Travis Mathews used the actors’ own names and much of their real-life stories for this 2012 film about a gay man in his mid-30s forced to move home from San Francisco. Porn studio Naked Sword helped in the production of the film, whose graphic sex scenes led to it being banned in Australia — much to James Franco’s chagrin. Nearly every scene in the film is NSFW so here’s a link to watch when you’re safe at home.
Comment: “Any of the sex scenes. These are real actors having real sex on camera, and hotter than porn for that reason. You really see the connection between the actors, as well as oral sex, full penetration and even cum shots. As an example of actors really pushing their boundaries, this can’t be beaten.” — submitted by Greg Mitchell
Priest
A young Roman Catholic priest struggles with his homosexual urges in this 1994 British drama.
Comment: “The first sex scene between Linus Roache and Robert Carlyle” — submitted by Greg Mitchell
Total Eclipse
The widely-maligned big screen adaptation of the legendary and tumultuous relationship between French poets Arthur Rimbaud and Paul Verlaine featuring a young, pre-Rome + Juliet/Titanic Leonardo Dicaprio.
Comment: “Leonardo DiCaprio bumming David Thewlis” — submitted by JasonBrownUK
Behind the Candelabra
Much was made about how Behind the Candelabra was “too gay” for any Hollywood studio, but just gay enough for us and HBO — along with near universal acclaim the Liberace biopic snatched 11 Emmys including one for Michael Douglas as the provocative, poppers-loving pianist.
Comment: “I found the sex scene in The Candelabra to be very realistic.” — submitted by bskeete
Weekend
An honest and unflinching portrait of an affair that promises to be much more, Andrew Haigh’s 2011 British romantic drama is equal parts sexy and heartbreaking.
Comment: “Had one of the most emotionally resonant sex scenes I think I’ve ever seen in a movie and probably one of the few to show that anal sex can be loving and not just pounding, not that there’s anything wrong with pounding.” — submitted by zaneymcbanes
Stranger by the Lake
Pierre Deladonchamps stars as a young man who finds himself attracted to a man who might be a killer, played by Christophe Paou in Alain Guiraudie’s psychological thriller, which was among the films to scandalize Cannes with its “explicit scenes of gay sex.”
Comment: “Beautifully shot and well crafted story. The sex scenes are hot, complete with oral and cum shots” — submitted by Travis
Making Love
The first mainstream Hollywood drama to deal with being gay, being closeted and coming out.
Comment: “I still think the love scene in Making Love is the best gay sex scene ever. And Michael Ontkean & Harry Hamlin were superb and sexy as hell in it.” — submitted by hephaestion
Do Começo ao Fim (From Beginning to End)
Aluizio Abranches’s 2009 Brazilian drama focuses on two brothers who become lovers.
Comment: “Has very good romantic scenes. Rather realistic for 2 straight Brazilian actors” — submitted by John Doe
Presque Rien (Come Undone)
A 2000 French-Beligian romantic drama depicting a stormy holiday romance between two teens and what remains of that relationship eighteen months later.
Comment: “French film” — submitted by John Doe. Full film here.
Queer As Folk (U.S.)
While not technically a movie, the popular US version of the UK drama revolving around the lives of a group of gay friends deserves an honorable mention.
Comment: “Justin and Brian’s first sex scene on Queer As Folk. It looked so f*ucking real and, Justin looked like he was in REAL pain when Brian penetrated him. I personally love that one.” — submitted by Dxley
Prepuce
What about “Shortbus” (2006)?
Les Fabian Brathwaite
@Prepuce: That was in our original round-up here: http://www.queerty.com/the-most-realistic-gay-sex-scenes-in-film-20131020

Right! Sorry, missed the link. Thanks.
Bear Aspirin
“Taxi Zum Klo” which was graphic but also artistic enough to merit a review on “Siskel & Ebert”.
Niall
Please kindly educate my obviously slow brain how a kiss that ends with camera panning away makes it unto a list of “most realistic gay sex scenes?”
Dxley
What the fuck? Did they just use my comment? Whooooo hooooooo!!! I feel like my list of achievements has just grown.
I’m so updating my Facebook status about this one 😀
jimstoic
I’d add “Law of Desire” and the new “Pit Stop.”
Pistolo
I always felt like that part in “I Want Your Love” when Jesse Metzger says “Thirsty butthole” would’ve made me not want to sleep with him if I were the other guy. Eyyycuk, I hate when people say that.
pauleky
@Pistolo: Seriously. Also, guys – don’t call your dick your “peepee.” Not sexy.
Chris
I did see the movie “Priest” a couple years ago it is worth the watch.
Justinian
Are they really having sex in I Want Your Love? Like really it looks so really someone tell me how they did this?
zaneymcbanes
An excellent roundup of films!

I can watch porn and I can watch gay cinema. Seldom do they truly go together. I bought “I Want Your Love” but turned it off once I realized it was just a porn flick. Same with a couple more of these. They were simply bad movies with sex scenes added.
One comes to mind that had a lot of sex and was a good movie to boot – Strapped. I also agree with Bear Aspirin about “Taxi Zum Klo.”
Tackle
I’m a little confused about the title. If a film such as, “I want your love” has real sex scenes, with the actors having actual sex, how can it be anything but realistic?
dvlaries
Imagine being 18 and the first depiction of sex between two men you ever see on any big screen is the rape scene in “Deliverance.” When your gateway couple is Bill McKinney and Ned Beatty and you emerge unscarred, maybe you’re tougher than you know.
loren_1955
Note, the clip on this article from I Want Your Love is just that a clip that was developed before the movie. I have the movie and was so disappointed because the scenes in the movie are not done half as well as this clip.
Have most of the other movies and agree the sex scenes are well done in each.

Christina responded I am stunned that a stay at home mom able to get paid 9676 bucks in one month on the internet. find out this here—-> http://smal.ly/hGQlr
Kenny1948
When I want to see sex in a movie, I’ll pop in a porn vid. Otherwise I don’t see what all the hoopla is about. I’m there to watch a story about people, not to see them fuck each other!
Niall
@Kenny1948: You mean a movie cannot have one or two sex scenes and still have a solid plotline? Shocking.

1) Do Começo ao Fim (Beginning/End): A truly beautiful, controversial and brilliant but heartfelt film.
2) Priest: Riveting and intense storytelling and stellar performances.
3) Presque Rien (Come Undone): a rare and beautiful coming-of-age film.
4) Behind the Candelabra: Behind and over-the-top glam-camp sex.
5) I Want Your Love: Well, I certainly don’t….roll over and Good Night!
carl_mark_smith
Those two guys on Queer As Folk…that would have been sexy if either one of them were even remotely likeable. GOD I hated that show. Soulless snakes and uppity queers, the lot of them.
EverybodySayLove
I STILL don’t see any people of color…
EverybodySayLove
I STILL don’t see any people of color…or interracial couples….
michaelmt1009
I think that among the also mentioned should be 2 movies: “Latter Days” and “Shelter” both very powerful scenes.
CCTR
@EverybodySayLove: there were a few interracial couples in the movie “I Want Your Love”. Latino, Asian, Black, White

@carl_mark_smith: Check out the original UK version of Queer As Folk, eight episodes and amazing story arcs. The U.S. version was a cheap knock-off that missed important high points in the original while impressing audiences who simply thought the actors were “cute.” Gale’s monotone “intensity” sent me screaming. The UK version really delivers on character and plot.

You guys should all check out the movie Frier Fall (free fall). It’s a German film about two police cadets who fall in love when one of them was straight. Amazingly realistic scenes and a great depiction of the tortures that the strake I was going through as he made his realization.
dennisjlee
Come Undone was very realistic as well as Latter-Days. The winner would have to be Stranger by the Lake because it was real sex- nothing simulated.

@EverybodySayLove:
EverybodySayLove, There are a lot of LGBT movies and TV shows with diverse characters, but it takes some looking to find them. Speaking of Looking, I still can’t get over Ritchie is gone, now that Looking is cancelled. That character was a hot gay Latino dude.
Check out – The Happy Sad -. Charlie Barnett from Chicago Fire is in it. I thought there was a steamy scene in that movie.
Boy Culture has an interracial couple. Pretty good movie.
Also Julián Hernández has a number of movies that are extremely erotic with some yummy dudes from Mexico. My favorite is Broken Sky. However his are all art house kind of movies, so not for everyone. He even did one short film that included penetration. Hot dudes.
Six Feet Under had an interracial couple in it. Was one of the better TV shows on TV.
The gay couple in the movie White Frog was interracial.
Children of God is about an interracial couple in the Bahamas.
The Wire was a great TV show wish a major black gay character that was pretty hot and had a few steamy scenes.
Eddie Jr
My choice would be for CIAO. It’s a tender sweet scene without any hard sex.
DannX68
@EverybodySayLove: Most of these are not North American and most other places the skin colour is not important one way or the other.
cancorv
@Bear Aspirin: absolutely
cancorv
@DannX68: @DannX68: Very interesting observation. Hadn’t occurred to me, but it’s spot on. I wonder if your spelling of “colour” make you “unAmerican” 🙂

@carl_mark_smith: I too hated QUEER AS FOLK. I felt it glorified the drug culture and promiscuity and set the gay rights movement back by 10 to 15 years. Cher hated it too.
