As we watched this video earlier today, we felt like we’d been knocked over with a barrel of sadness. And then came Adam Joseph’s music video “Finally,” which we’re promptly saving to our iPhone so we can play it whenever we want. For now, the video is more fantasy than anything, because no, most gay Americans don’t have their marriage rights. But this holiday season, we’re thankful for those fighting the fight to make this a reality. God bless.

Happy together!
In a few weeks, my husband and I will be celebrating our 24th anniversary of togetherness; more together, more loving, more committed in the “or worse” times, more loyal, more everything than any of the marriages of our (combined) 5 brothers.
When we met as bright-eyed 26 year-olds, marriage wasn’t even a thought, not conceivable. The big issues were the new disease named AIDS and whether Dynasty’s Steven Carrington was going to get a kiss!
I am thankful that, after 22 years, we were able to marry (thank you Massachusetts). And though it has been a battle on every front, and we seem to loose more times than not, the reality is that, while the war for marriage equality is not over, we still win. When the battle for marriage equality began, thank you Hawaii, we could not get married anywhere in world. Here in the US, not one state recognized ANY same-sex relationship rights. And now, a handful of states have marriage equality, more states will adopt marriage equality.
We have something worth fighting for, we have love.
Joseph
One of my favorite songs paired with a beautiful video:) What a tear jerker!
Living in Toronto this will be a reality for me one day I hope!

Everyone should have the right to be with the person they love on whatever terms they desire. I liked this video it was very romantic.

Kudos to CT on the one year anniversary of its marriage equality law.

Everyone should have the right to not just be with the person they love, but to be with them with ALL of the rights and responsibilities that one little piece of paper from a local municipal entity conveys. We must prevail in this struggle. We are every bit as human as those who hate us.
I love Adam Joseph. He is a beautiful guy and a great singer.

I love this video!!
although, correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t that the post office on 34th street instead of city hall?
I love NY!! but I would love it even more if it gave me the rite to marry my man.
arjuna52
Yeah, that’s the Main Post Office on 8th Ave.
I’m a Unitarian Universalist minister in Omaha and have had the honor of marrying three different gay couples this year across the river in Iowa.
I’m from New York and can’t wait until that state has marriage equality so I can come home and marry my friends who are waiting to make it legal.

@ Mike in Brooklyn:
You make me happy and hopeful for my now 5+ year relationship, which has been going strong since I was just turning 25 and he was turning 28. Your message gives hope for a better future for all of us who struggle with relationships in this day and age. Congrats on your successful relationship!

What a beautiful video!
I’m a New Zealander, so we can have civil unions here. It’s always beautiful to see two people in love.

What is it about a wedding that makes me cry every time

Great video.
Ditto to the Post Office comments. Anyone who lives in Manhattan recognizes that building. Still a good video though.

I grew up in a home filled with turmoil and abuse. I had no one whom I could talk to, and on the bad nights, I had trouble falling asleep. One such night, I laid in the dark, listening to shouts of my parents, and I imagined myself grown up, sitting peacefully on the sofa, simply holding the hand of some boyfriend or partner of a future that I hoped to live long enough to experience. The image relaxed me and enabled me to go to sleep. At this point, I began to dream regularly that maybe I could have a loving marriage to someone, and create a family of people who loved and supported one another. It seemed out of reach, and I didn’t know if there was such a thing as a peaceful and loving relationship; moreover, I was gay, and thought it ridiculous to allow such thoughts to drift into my thoughts.
On July 3rd, 2008, I married my long term partner–now my husband. How very thankful I am to have been able to live out my dream, to be surrounded by so much love, and to get a chance to experience the wonders of a supportive family dynamic. I know that marriage is not for everyone, but for me it meant so much.
We too are in California, and we are volunteering much time to try to repeal Proposition 8, through canvasing neighborhoods and speaking to folks. While many will never to choose to marry, I want the young kids out there who feel alone and are uncertain of their futures to have a chance to dream too. I want them to grow up in a world wherein they feel validated and worthy of love.
This video was so touching–two men marrying, one friend there to bear witness. We may not have the support of family or society, but that’s alright as long as we have another. I’m so proud of my community, and so very thankful for my blessings, which includes the all those gay men and women whom I proudly stand by. Thank you, All!!!!

video is nice…vocals not so much….

Beautiful video. Very touching and great song choice.

I have never seen what we are fighting for depicted in such a beautiful way. I am trying to hold back tears as I type. Maybe the vocals weren’t the greatest but that’s not the point. If William Hung had sung the song the beauty would still be there.
Eat your heart out Cece Peniston.

Thanks to those who shared their stories. It is those stories that need to be continued to be documented for the history books. I think this song and music video was very well done and it definately nailed the point. It is about love….not religion or politics…but love.

Who drinks water out of a wine glass?
The same people who drink coffee from fine china instead of a cardboard cup at Dunkin’ Donuts. 😉

A touching video indeed!

I love Adam Joseph! I hope he releases this on iTunes.

The video is cute enough, but for some reason I don’t think that marriage will last. I think they’re cheating. There was just something about the way they were looking at eachother, kinda like a ‘wink-wink nudge-nudge’ deal. Kinda sneaky. I give it three years tops.
-Oh wait, that’s right. They’re actors. Nevermind, then. Carry on.
