As the world continues to mourn the death of Prince today, it continues to celebrate his singular musical legacy. Among those is another powerhouse performer, Jennifer Hudson, who led the cast of the acclaimed Broadway revival of The Color Purple, including the dynamic Cynthia Erivo, in a rousing rendition of Prince’s signature tune. We’ll bet there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
Watch J.Hud and cast belt out “Purple Rain” below.

I was over it about halfway through. Way over the top with the screaming.

Can’t stand Jennifer Hudson, so overrated. I was appalled when she got an Oscar for Dreamgirls.

@Xzamilio: I agree. They sent me RIGHT IN with this rendition, and I can’t stop listening to it. Sheer vocal power.

I LOVE THESE COMMENTS!!! Reminds me of Dreamgirls come to think of it, when the white folk sang the Cadillac song like a lullaby, because the black rendition was up-tempo!!! LMAO!!! Ah man…
