Jaden Smith screamed it from the proverbial rooftops: He has a boyfriend, and that boyfriend’s name is Tyler the Creator.
But before we call our favorite non-bigoted bakery to get started on Smith’s rainbow coming out cake, let’s pause and take a step back.

The 20-year-old performer and son of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith made the comments during a recent show, and judging by his delivery and Tyler’s reaction, the gesture seemed more symbolic than literal.
“I just want to say Tyler the Creator is the best friend in the whole world and I love him so f*cking much,” Smith said. “And I want to tell you guys something… Tyler doesn’t want to say, but Tyler is my motherf*cking boyfriend, and he’s been my motherf*cking boyfriend my whole f*cking life. Tyler the Creator is my f*cking boyfriend! It’s true!”
Watch for yourself:
Smith followed up with a tweet that led many commenters to think he’d really come out:
Yup @tylerthecreator I Told Everyone You Can’t Deny It Now.
— Jaden Smith (@officialjaden) November 12, 2018
Fans have speculated about Tyler’s sexuality ever since the rapper seemed to hint that he wasn’t straight in his lyrics.

Tyler has spoken about maintaining some sense of mystery around the subject, telling Fantastic Man:
“It’s still such a grey area with people, which is cool with me. Even though I’m considered loud and out there, I’m private, which is a weird dichotomy. The juxtaposition of loud and quiet is weird.
It’s a literal question and the thing about humans is we hate not having an answer. We hate not being in the know. So people will bullsh*t answers, make shit up, instead of being just, like.
I don’t know. There are some things that are just unexplainable.”
So did Smith come out? Our spidey sense says no, but maybe “some things are just unexplainable.”

Look at me! Look at me! Not much to see beyond his usual desperation for attention.
Lacuevaman
ChrissyK, for ONCE, i agree with you. and there’s not much to look at either.
Juanjo
Oh look, two no talent trolls screaming “look at me” while dissing about someone they have no actual knowledge of.
Lacuevaman
come on juanitajo…. change your trichomoniasis treatment….. it’s not working and you are starting to smell

Chris, I thought the same thing but before we voice our honest opinions of this poor rich kid let us FIRST remember that neither he nor his little sister had a “loving” mother and father. Sorry folks but I can’t see Jada breast feeding her kids nor Will spending the amount of time a FATHER should spend with his son. Those kids were brought here more out of publicity than love and the entire world knows/knew there marriage was and still is a sham.
Donston
Bob LaBlah, I as well do feel some sympathy for Jaden and Willow to some degree. They grew up in Hollyweird and was brought up by Hollywood (and secretly under the guide of Scientology). While it’s been apparent for many years that Will and Jada are raging egomaniacs who care about image and money more than anything else. I don’t even think those two have lived together for years. They haven’t even been seen with each other outside of press venues for years. Yet, they claim they still have a “partnership”.
So, of course their kids are gonna turn out to be quirks who are constantly trying to find themselves and constantly doing things for attention. It would just be nice if less people felt the need to jump on the semi-gay bandwagon to express those lackings.
Bob LaBlah
Donston, a few days ago Jaden’s last picture (After Earth) was on television. It was excruciating to watch (I bailed out after twenty minutes) trust me, but to be fair to Jaden he was not the one who excruciating to watch. It was daddy Will who F’d that movie up. The expression on his face never changed throughout the entire movie and it was the expression of “I’m a gay man who’s starring in my kids movie out of love for money than love of my son.” I have ALWAYS thought he (Will) was overrate (though I did love The Wild Wild West) but for some reason I can’t let go of this thought where he, Will Smith, gave that F’d up performance in that movie out of jealousy for his own son. It was he (Will) who killed his son’s movie career. If not “kill” then he sure as hell is responsible for putting Jaden’s movie career on a long hiatus.
Annaronimo
Wow, so much hate for the Smiths. They’re a stable family with two kids who have grown up with a remarkable lack of drama compared to most celebrity kids. Their parents are still together and they traveled as a family for much of Will’s career, hence their mother’s career taking a back seat. They’ve had a more loving and attentive upbringing than many kids, they’ve attempted to raise them with a level of normalcy in a fish bowl, and yet you’re sitting here judging them. This should be a forum of inclusivity, not the same hate as is spewed out in the world at large. Surprisingly, celebrities are as much fallible humans as the rest of us. It’s none of our business whether their marriage is real or a sham, and it’s incredibly hypocritical to post a public comment mocking someone else as being attention-seeking.

.Don’t look at me.
I’ll look at Jaden Smith, or Tyler the Creator, if they ever do something interesting.
Donston
While I’m all about the spectrum and ambiguity and figuring yourself out, these two clearly just enjoy playing games. There are still people who are (literally) fighting to truly be with someone that’s not the opposite cis gender of them. I’m getting a little tired of these over-emotional “queers” who simply enjoy yanking on the gay chain because being “sensitive” and not being 100% hetero and 100% cis gender is the “cool” thing nowadays.
Lacuevaman
“while I’m ….” Dear God dumbston, so tired of your bloviations
Donston
Yet, I stay indifferent towards your trolling.
Brian
It’s like when everybody was bisexual in the 1970’s, only instead of being fueled by drugs, it’s fueled by the desire to look interesting on social media. Now I’m sure most of those people cringe at their younger selves.
azjeff17
Jaden Smith is creepy. His video of his, uh “song”, I guess it’s a song; “Icon”, is like a bad dream.
LilMesican
“The Many Faces of Jaden Smith.” It feels as if he’s filming some life long documentary on how to be annoying and talentless.
TheBigOne
OMFG! Lots of sour old queens.
Can any of you be happy that he’s got himself a man? Maybe that’s the problem, the lot of you can’t find anybody to be with. Wonder why……………………
OzJosh
You seem oblivious to the nuance – or is it the lack of it? – here. For once, the cynics are spot on. There is nothing genuine about this. If anything, he is mocking gays and mocking coming out.
Donston
The thing is that they’re not dating. Tyler seems to be legit into dudes and someone who is/was struggling to come to terms with himself and what he wants. Jaden is just another “queer” who is obsessed with being cool and jumping on trends. Tyler immediately said no when Jaden tried to claim him on stage. They ain’t a couple.
Seeing two grown black men willing to play around with identity and joke about having a relationship together does sorta represent progress. But sometimes these things do come off as merely trying to be subversive, trying to crowd please and not being aware of your privilege. It can be condescending to individuals who are truly struggling with themselves, struggling with coming out and/or who have perpetual fear expressing having same-sex leaning passions and romantic/relationship contentment.
The unfortunate thing is that Jaden doesn’t have anything to offer besides his name and genealogy. While Tyler is a fairly mediocre rapper who refuses to truly and earnestly put his struggles and his life in his music.
Lacuevaman
really…. really… WTFC????
Black Pegasus
@Donston
Thankyou for this brilliant commentary. Your thoughts mirror my own while observing this pop culture occurrence. I personally feel we are being trolled which I find offensive. But I also feel like this is progress when two young cis gendered black males are comfortable enough to use “the perception of gayness” in order to accomplish that Rick Roll.
Donston
Black Pegasus, I don’t know the dimensions of these two guys’ orientations (you can never know all the romantic, sexual, emotional, relationship contentment aspects of anyone’s orientation, no matter their identity), but it’s obvious that they’re not dating. While it’s cute to see two famous black guys willing to publicly indulge such a thing, it also reminds you that there are many people in the spotlight who actually have genuine same-sex leaning romantic/relationship preferences and passions but are petrified of people knowing that or are in long-term “queer” relationships that they don’t want people to know about and are embarrassed about. However, it’s these two guys who are merely playing around that are getting the headlines and cheers instead of an actual black gay couple. It’s refreshing but also a lil’ disconcerting.
I do feel many people (particularly people who are romantically same-sex leaning and mostly have relationships with their opposite cis gender) have taken the nature of coming out or revealing that you are in a same-sex relationship and has fetishized it and turned it into a bit of a carnival and an act of narcissism. A hint of gay-ness, semi-gayness, “open-mindedness”, ambiguity- this stuff is “cool”. Actual gayness/being in a real same-sex relationship? That’s still not so cool. And the entertainment industry is responsible to playing that up while still urging people to stay closeted.
QueerTruth
I’m not sour or old, dude. Don’t be an ageist dimwit.
KevInSD
He is weird and effeminate. I don’t want him to be gay.
toddlicious
I’m not sure why anyone cares… maybe it’s just me but, being the kid of someone famous isn’t reason enough for anyone to care… and also, Jayden Smith bugs me.
Kieran
He’s not officially a gay man until Joy Reid and Kathy Griffin start calling him “Miss Jaden”.
Herman75
LOL. That’s funny,
Lacuevaman
right on.. That Joy-Ann Reid is a homophobe, a bigot and a liar. I cannot even look at her anymore. Seems like MSNBC has given her the weekend mornings. I’ve rediscovered CNN and love it. Kathy Griffin …who?
Wolfie
Queerty stop trying to make Jayden Smith “happen”.
JK 1984
That is Sooooo Fetch.

“The crowd goes wild”? Errrr. Not
nmharleyrider
Who cares about either one of them. No talent attention-hungry.
Kangol
And yet you felt the need to post. So you must care something about them, since you gave them some attention on here. But why?
mykelb
I really don’t care. Do you?
o.codone
Jaden has a peach fuzz happy trail and I’d be happy to follow it all the way to the end of the rainbow. He’s cute as fu&ck and I would do him top to bottom, front to back until he ran out of … juice.
willz247
His Brother Trey had a birthday yesterday and ‘it’ had to do this. WTFC?
Evji108
He seems like anice kid to me. The gay son of a famous black actor and comedian. It’s harder in the black community to come out publicly and expectations are even higher for the offspring of celebrities. I wish him lots of luck and happiness.
OrchidIslander
@Evji108, I like him too. He’s unconventional and he doesn’t seem to care very much about what others think or say about him, which most of us know is a sure-fire way to attract haters. I love the way the crowd cheered his announcement.
Donston
But is it really about being himself and not caring what people say about him or is it more about trying to get headlines and attention? It can be hard to tell nowadays. Either way, I don’t wish him any ill will. But it can be hard to decipher what truly motivates someone when they seem to go out of their way to be “edgy” and “subversive”.
Brian
He desperately cares what others think about him. He fancies himself as a deep thinker, and wants to make sure EVERYBODY knows how (pseudo) intellectual he is. The Smiths raised their kids to think that the sun shines out of their butts, and we’re all just in their orbit.
PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS
VERY do-able……….
RIGay
I think in our current geo-political climate, YEAH!!! Come out, SCREAM IT FROM THE ROOF TOPS!
It also dosn’t hurt that he’s got a very high-profile Mom and Dad in his corner.
You go!
YEAH!!!
Herman75
I agree 100%. He can keep people guessing as long as he wants. There is no harm. it’s good.
JK 1984
While it is great progress that two men, e especially two famous (whether talented or not is another question) black men in the USA can talk about coming out and not be immediately beaten up/stigmatised I am not sure how genuine this actually is.
Sometimes it seems being gay is now seen as “cool”, e.g. a guy I met via work who said he was gay but only had sex with women and had zero interest in having sex with men. But because he “felt attuned” you betting gay that was enough for him to call himself a gay man.
If Jaden and Tyler really are going out and this isn’t just a publicity thing, then good for them and I wish then all the best. If they are just trolling then that is a different story and they are using something that doesn’t “belong” to them, I.e. coming out to get people taking allot them which is kinda sad/despicable.
jkb
I think Jaden is cute AF
batesmotel
I thought this ended up being fake in the end. That they aren’t really involved.
scubooty
Regardless, both need to show more body, and less face.
