Thanks to the word-of-mouth spreading about the gay male porn scenes in The Kids Are All Right, Julianne Moore and Annette Bening’s family dramedy jumped from a handsome $505,000 opening weekend (or $72,143 per screen) to a two-week take of $1,813,866, which means the film is now averaging $107,072.

Or could it be the fact that all the commercials I’ve seen on TV make it seem that Moore and Ruffalo are a couple, raising their son and daughter? The commercials give very little indication that this is nothing more than another standard, straight rom-com.

@Mr. Enemabag Jones: well, those audiences are in for quite the surprise then!

I’d go see it for the awesomest Ms Moore alone. The gay sex scenes would be cherries on the carrot cake, so to speak.

SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!!!
Ya know, I loved the movie, but I gotta say, so many media portrayals of gays have this thing where gay people suddenly start having straight-sex… I understand there’s a spectrum of sexuality out there, but EVERY TIME with the straight sex?! I’ve never thought about sex w/ a gal since I was a young kid. Seriously?

Bening & Moore were very believable as a couple. Very nicely acted & filmed.
I agree with PETENSFO on being annoyed by the standard trope of the “straight-sex” issue yet *this* movie, unlike so many others treated it gently & with grace. It helped move the plot along, and the complexity of that sit-u-a-tion was, for a change brought to light.
Ruffalo was good. Never saw him as this careful an actor before. The two actors playing the off-sprung were really solid too.
Director Lisa Cholodenko put this together with a low budget & filmed it in near-record time. Getting Annette & Julianne was a major coup.
I hated the trailer though.
See it if u can. We need more movies like this…..

SPOILER ALERT!!
Moore’s character explains to her son when he finds their male-on-male porn that sexuality is not as rigid as one would believe (I’m paraphrasing). In essense, you can’t define the entire world as either gay or straight. Her comment was to explain that while you may have a same sex partner that doesn’t mean you can’t be attracted to a person of a different sex (and that attraction isn’t necessarily physical but could also be emotional or spritual, etc.).
Saw this movie last night and honestly my bf and I talked for a while after the movie about this topic as we are still perplexed why they would show it in this light. But thinking abuo
I think ultimately the thing to get from the movie is the title…that after all the F’ups parents do (what parent’s don’t F something up?) the kids turned out OK. They were raised by two loving parents, and that is the crux of them turning out OK.
