To echo Abradacaver – yes, they "lost" racial issues, prayer in school and other issues. What did they lose? They can still pray in school if they want to, their women can still be barefoot and pregnant etc. if that is what they want.

It is not as if "losing" means one side gets something and the other forfeits.
