THE SCREENING ROOM

ON DVD: Sebastiane, Kathy Griffin’s A Tired Hooker, Misfits And More

It’s a good thing the new season of Showtime’s Episodes is keeping us busy this week, because the home-entertainment release pickings are slim! (Guess we’re supposed to go outside or something.) Kathy Griffin takes aim at Hugh Jackman’s sexuality—amongst other things—in the two-concert DVD Kathy Griffin: Pants Off/Tired Hooker. David De Coteau assembles more young manflesh in 1313: Night of the Widow. And the long overdue Derek Jarman revival continues with BluRay releases of The Tempest and Sebastiane.
Kathy Griffin: Pants Off /Tired Hooker ($14.99 DVD, Shout Factory!) This double-feature DVD of Griffin’s stand-up engagements includes her riotous skewing, gossip and anecdotes about Marcus Bachmann, Gloria Steinem, Cher, Nancy Grace, and Kim Kardashian, amongst others. Plus there’s bonus footage from both concerts. Alas, this was recorded before the Chik-Fil-A fracas. Next time, Kathy!

http://youtu.be/7DPKg6hzl3g   Sebastiane   ($29.99 BluRay, Kino Lorber) Gay UK filmmaker Derek Jarman’s controversial and super homoerotic take on the tale of St. Sebastian tale gets a pristine BluRay treatment this week, as does his adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest. The latter includes a trio of Jarman’s short films as extras. Make it a Jarman night!

Misfits

($24.98, BBC Home Entertainment)

Kelly, Nathan, Curtis, Alisha and Simon are five unruly teenagers forced to do community service as payback for their crimes. But when a freak electrical storm hits their town, strange things begin to happen to them that are way out of their control. In fact, they have no idea that they’ve actually turned into superheroes, each with a power they didn’t choose or want – a power which reveals each of their deepest, darkest insecurities. But while they just want to finish their community service and get through the challenges of everyday teenage life – relationships, friendships, parents and sex – fate has another task in store for them: they must save their town from the evil that has descended upon it. If you think life’s tough for your average superhero, it’s even tougher when you’ve got a curfew…

The first series of Misfits was brilliant, didn’t think the second was very good.

Wasn’t Kathy’s excuse for not outing Anderson, or making jokes about Anderson, is that she never seeks to out anyone. Now, she is attacking Hugh Jackman’s sexuality on video. Someone really needs to tell this bitch that her double standards is whack and that attacking someone based on their sexuality is only done by bitter old queens and right wing ministers.

I liked her at first, but man is her sense of “humor” getting old and tiring.

I watched Sebastiane on Netflix one might when I was bored. It was slow, boring, and at times confusing.

On the other hand, the all-male cast was naked almost the entire time. And there were so many cocks. SO. MANY. COCKS. By the end I was sympathizing with the villain whose sole motive was to bang Sebastiane, because there’s so much sexual tension and zero f*cking.

  • Sick of her now

@Daez: I agree. I definitely think she’s overstayed her welcome (IMO anyway). The whole “my gays”/my lapdogs shyt and obnoxious loud mouth have gotten old. Plus the way she picks and chooses who to out is pathetic. Either out everyone or don’t out anyone.

Kathy Griffin is such an ugly hypocrite…won’t out Anderson..but will attack Hugh Jackman!! Yuck!!
